Background: On February 15th, 1999, Henry Way Kendall, Nobel Laureate in physics, was participating in a cave dive at the Wakulla Springs, Florida. While preparing for this dive, Kendall missed one of the steps of activating his dive equipment - he failed to activate his oxygen supply. With his mask on, Kendall would not be able to know he was running out of oxygen - until he lost consciousness and fell, minutes after having entered the water.

Disorientation - either with the outside world or with the many different switches, gauges, and more, is the main killer of divers, whether young and inexperienced ones, or top-league sportsmen and professionals like Kendall. Here at Took Outfitters, we are always concerned with promoting the safety of professionals and sportsmen alike. That’s why we invented the Theseus - an advanced, augmented reality dive masks.

The Theseus is an augmented reality dive mask, equipped with several high-resolution cameras, a blood pressure and heartbeat sensor, gyroscope, thermometer, depthometer, and sonic and wireless communications equipment. When surfaced, you can also activate the mask’s GPS system, which can aid you in steering on the surface or aid rescue services in coming to your aid.

Moreover, the Theseus can be connected to other equipment on your dive suit, most particularly your rebreather and air tanks (if compatible) to receive detailed information on the levels of remaining air/breathing mix, or a keyboard to type in messages.

The Theseus comes with a set of pre-loaded messages that can be broadcast to fellow divers using the sonic communications system, with the message chosen by voice or gesture control, or a pair of buttons on the side of the mask. This set can be altered, however several safety messages, including the SOS broadcast, cannot be deleted. Do not for the dear love of the everlasting gods try to mess with this aspect of the system.

Its extensive solid-state drive can be used to store three-dimensional maps of the dive area aiding you in safe navigation. The system can receive signals from underwater beacons and map updates from compatible surface communications. A communications cable can also be connected.

For professional divers, applications can be installed enabling you to identify ship parts or tools in an undersea environment. Reference applications aiding with identifying undersea flora and fauna are also available.

For explorers, adventurers, or sports divers, of course the cameras and infra-red sensor on the Theseus can be used to record video and take images of your unforgettable underwater journey.

Whoever you are - military professional, civilian rescue diver, sportsman, adventurer, or scientist - we hope the Theseus mask makes your visit to Poseidon’s realm not only unforgettable and productive - but also much safer.
