The Trina-class Container Ships
Contract Price: NSD 200 million

The Trina-class comprise a family of very large container ships manufactured by Dongmoon Shipbuilding. The name is derived from the trilateral commercial needs the class seeks to address: economic, energy efficiency and environmentally sound. Each vessel has a container carrying capacity of 18,000 TEUs.

Design

A Trina-class container ship has a U-shaped hull for the accommodation of more containers and weighs 165,000t. It has a length of 400m. The beam is 59m and draught is 15.5m. The height above baseline is 73m. The ships are designed to cruise at a top speed of 23k.

The vessels are also the most energy efficient. They have the lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint by emitting 20% less CO2 per container shipped when compared to the most efficient container vessel available currently. Optimised design allows the vessel to cruise with the maximum possible load at speeds prevailing in the industry.

The waste heat recovery system captures the exhaust gas from the engine and uses it to run the turbine to produce mechanical energy, which in turn, is used to run a generator. It cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 9%. The cost of installing a waste heat recovery system on each Trina vessel is approximately $10m.

The vessels are designed to be energy efficient. Optimized design allows the vessel to cruise with the maximum possible load at speeds prevailing in the industry.

Engine and Propulsion

vessel has a twin skeg propulsion system, with two slow running ultra-long stroke engines. Each engine drives a separate propeller.
Each engine produces 43,000hp and weighs 910t. Each consumes 168g bunker oil per kWH produced. Each of the two propellers has a diameter of 9.8m and four blades. The smaller the number of blades, the lower the resistance; while the larger diameter propellers produce more pushing power.

The two engines and two propellers combination generate further savings of four percent energy when compared to a combination of one engine and one propeller.

The vessels are fitted with two shaft generator motors (SGM) with a rated capacity of 3MW each. The motors act as variable power generation units.

LNG11-class
Contract Price: NSD 185 million

The LNG11 class are liquified natural gas carriers launched in 2019. They are the eleventh class of LNG vessels constructed by Dongmoon Shipbuilding. LNG11 vessels measure 297.9 metres in length and 47.9 metres in breadth with a draught of 11.5 metres. It has a cargo tank capacity of 180,000m³ and maximum speed of 19.5 knots.

Design

The LNG11 class is equipped with a full reliquification system, which Dongmoon terms as the methane refrigeration system-full reliquefication (MRS-F) design.

The MRS-F full reliquefication system works in tandem with the LNG carrier’s fuel gas supply system and is comprised of a partial reliquification system (PRS) and an independent methane refrigeration system MRS cycle. Based on the reverse Brayton cycle, the MRS refrigeration system uses natural cargo boil-off gas (NBOG) as a refrigerant. Because a redundancy fuel gas compressor is used as a refrigerant compressor in due fuel engine applications, there is no need for additional refrigerant compressors.

With Dongmoon’s successful combination of both the PRS and MRS technologies, full reliquefication of the LNG carrier’s boil-off gas (BOG) is possible for all operating scenarios, including the at-anchor state. The MRS only needs to come into play at ship speeds below 15 knots as the PRS covers any reliquefication requirements that may arise at higher ship speeds.

By obviating the need to bring the ship’s gas combustion unit into play, irrespective of vessel speed, MRS-F systems enable reductions in operating costs to be achieved. It is claimed that savings of up to US$7.2M over the life of the vessel can be made.

DD-class crude carrier
Contract Price: NSD 120 million

First manufactured for the Double Dragon Shipping company (and hence named after the ordering company), the DD-class is a family of ultra large crude carriers built by Dongmoon Shipbuilding.

Design

DD-class vessels were designed with longevity and safety and mind. Each vessel can be put into active use for 25 years which makes them a much-sought after tanker ship to carry bulk amounts of oil across the oceans.
Members of this class of crude carriers are dual-hulled ships, which offers a safer and better method of oil ferrying without causing major environmental problems in case of any accident, which offers a safer and better method of oil ferrying without causing major environmental problems in case of any accident. The topmost part of the hull is designed to reflect back sunlight. Along with this, the ballast tanks of the supertanker are supplied with inert gases which ensures that no complications arise out of inadvertent leakage of gases.
In terms of dimensions, the ship measures 380 metres lengthwise, 68 metres breadth wise, 34 metres depth wise and 24.5 metres draught wise. It has a dead weight tonnage of around 4, 00,000 tonnes and its cargo hauling capacity is over three million barrels of oil.

Dongmoon-class muti-role frigate
Contract Price: NSD 282 million

The Dongmoon-class frigate is the next generation of frigates first constructed for the Raeroan Navy under its 2020 Frigate Generation Program. The class was named for the city of Dongmoon, which also lends its name to the company building the vessels. The Dongmoon-class multi-role frigates are intended for a variety of missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-air warfare, patrol, surveillance, search and rescue, protection of EEZ, and transport.

Design

Each vessel has an overall length of 122m, an overall beam of 14m, depth moulded of 7.4m, and draught of 4.15m. The standard and full-load displacements are 2,800t and 3,600t respectively. Its superstructure is designed to further minimise the radar cross section.The frigates from this class can accommodate up to 120 personnel and are controlled from the wheelhouse located amidships. The Dongmoon has an enclosed helicopter hangar with accommodation and a helicopter deck on the stern to support the operation of one naval helicopter

Armament

The Dongmoon-class frigate weaponry include one 127mm, 62-calibre Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun system, two 324mm triple-tube Mk-32 anti-submarine torpedo launchers, one RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) Block 1 short-range surface-to-air missile, and two quad SH-20K/Sea Hawk anti-ship missile launchers.

The aft section is armed with a six-barrelled 20mm Porcupine close-in weapon system (CIWS developed by StraDE to defeat anti-ship missiles, as well as air and surface threats.

The frigates are also equipped with a 16-cell R-VLS (Raeroan vertical launch system), which is capable of launching SH-4, medium-range, surface-to-air missiles.

Navigation and Communication

For its communication systems, the Dongmoon-class employ fixed phased-array radar antennas mounted on top of the wheelhouse. Other onboard sensor systems include a tracking radar, a ship-borne electronic warfare system, LIG Nex1 SPS-550K E / F-band multi-beam 3D radar, and SQS-240 sonar.

Propulsion

A combined diesel electric and gas propulsion system, comprising a single gas turbine and four diesel generators, provides the vessels of this class with quiet operation and increased fuel efficiency. Its 6,500kg marine gas turbine offers a maximum power rating between 36MW and 40MW. The hybrid propulsion system provides a maximum speed of approximately 55.56km/h and a cruising range of 8,000mi.

Dongmoon sets target order at NSD 20 billion for 2020

Raeroa’s Dongmoon Shipbuilding is aiming to secure NSD 20 billion worth of new order deals for 2020.

Mr. Charles Geun, Dongmoon Chief Executive Officer said that the company was bullish, after the successful debut of the company globally last November 2019.

“Last year, we successfully opened up to the world market with a billion dollar order from Ozburk OPC for four Trina-class container ships. We hope to sustain the momentum and let prospective clients know of Raeroan shipnbuilding expertise.”

The Falleo company was the first international customer of DS, as it is more popularly called within Raeroan parlance. While one of the largest shipbuilding companies in the country, DS has primarily relied on the domestic customers, including the Raeroan government, for its revenue.

Last November, the company announced an ambitious program penetrate international markets and established its first overseas promotion offices, highlighting its fleet of civilian and military vessels.
