The fractal nature of our multiverse has often been a problem for armed forces operating in different environments. In some places, you can only use a chemenergic, and beam weapons won't work. In others, more advanced armaments can be used. This, of course, has created a difficulty in terms of field logistics. One solution, used in the field by the Free Kingdom Armed Forces, is to commission the creation of an energy weapon that is as similar as possible to the chemenergic armaments used by Allanean soldiers in the field.
This weapon is the M30A1 plasma carbine. Similar in dimensions and ergonomics to the M4A1 and M18 rifles in use by the Free Kingdom Armed Forces, the M30A1 is capable of being used by anyone trained on those rifles. The gun is of similar weight, and the selector switch is of similar design, allowing the choice between a safe, 'semi-auto', and 'automatic' fire. (It's worth noting that, because this is not in fact a chemenergic, semi-automatic and automatic merely means, respectively, that the M30A1 will either fire one shot per trigger pull in 'semi' mode, and 10 shots per second as long as the trigger is pressed, in 'automatic' mode. )
Unlike its chemenergic relatives, the M30A1 is equipped with a small screen, allowing the warfighter to see the amount of remaining ammunition at all times, and a power selector, enabling them to dial the power of each shot up or down, allowing an increase in the output and power of each shot, up to five-fold.
The standard magazine, being a more advanced form of the energy magazines used by various lasguns, contains sufficient energy for 150 shots at the standard power setting, and 30 shots at the maximum power setting.
Upon pressing the trigger, the M30A1 releases a roaring bolt of energy, which upon impact results in a small explosion and a release of kinetic energy and heat. This explosion is powerful enough to expect significant stopping reliability against powered armored opponents struck by the rifle at the standard range, as well as igniting any flammables and some metal obstacles. However, being an energy weapon, there is no fragmentation effect except in terms of items being struck by fragments of the target.
The firearm is also available in a full-length rifle configuration, with slightly better performance at ultra-long ranges, for use by the unit's designated marksman.
