Raid on Somalia, Part 1
Autonomous action by our settlement in the Notovasian Tsardom

Somalia's army of only 36,000 was busy, for the most part, dealing with insurgency. That was an understatement, really, for Somalia had been embroiled in civil war since 2009. It was not exactly a wealthy country, making it a forgettable target by Lethen standards. That wasn't to say they would never raid it, for Somalia was quite defenseless on the seas but that itself wasn't to say that Somalia did not have garrisons occasionally in the way. It was too easy of a target to completely forgo, anyways.

From the Notovasian-Lethen Duchy of Cyprus, 10 ships -- a missile boat and its nine escorting FACS as usual -- had set off and passed through the Suez on their way. All Somalia had to protect itself were a couple dated missile boats. Said missile boats detected the Lethen fleet coming and moved out. They couldn't put up much of a fight and were swiftly blasted by the quite modern missile boat that led the vikings. The missile boat detached from its escorts and let them move in while it kept watch. The escorting FACs, carrying a total of 270 naval infantry, made landings.

The Notovasian drone watching over the incident saw the 270 Lethen vikings spill onto the Lido beach shore in Mogadishu, stormed the board walk and entered all sorts of buildings. Most of the civilians in the area were quite glad to flee, but stragglers were, as usual, placed as hostages, and all resistance was killed. Buildings began to be torn apart as the vikings made the beach look like a tornado had struck it. A local mosque was immediately set aflame, as well as multiple stores, hotels, and houses.

Raid on Somalia, Part 2

The Flight Officer watched through the viewfinder, watching the Lethen Soldiers pour onto the beach. She was impressed, these men were quite capable of raiding. She waved over the Navigational Officer and ordered him to circle the city, while she started to focus on the chaos down below. "Nothing compares to these men. They've already wrecked the Somalian Navy, and have overrun the militias. What does worry me is that there is a contingent of Somalian Military heading straight towards them. Amelia, if you hear the distress beacons, send word to the High Seas Fleet. We don't want the Lethens to take too many casualties. Remember, we're here to observe, not to interfere. They'll call in air support if they need it."

Raid on Somalia, 1530 Hours (Part 3)

With much of the city fiercely under attack, the first police response was underway. With much of the coastal Lido district destroyed, the police set up a defensive frontline deeper into the city. One thing the Somalians did have going for them was the fact that their police was militarized. Armored trucks, ballistic vests and helmets, and rifles, to list a few examples. What they didn't have going for them was numbers as the vikings had almost one-hundred more soldiers than them, and they also used older equipment. It was a battle of AK47s against SCAr-Hs and a variety of other modern weapons, though it could be said that the AK47 was simply always a good weapon.

The vikings stopped for a moment to regroup and figure out their next move, and decided that they would launch an assault at 1600 hours. Meanwhile, a little bout of infighting was seen in the rear guard. One Lethen viking had took a liking to a plump Somali woman and had nabbed her and bounded her quite early. He planted a smack on her posterior, much to the dismay of one of the viking's older comrades.

"(Easy there, lad. It's not like you get to keep her.)" chided the older man.

"(That's why I'm enjoying this while I can. That prude Rubijn won't let me touch her like that.)" replied the offender.

The older viking rolled his eyes and reminded the younger one that it was not time yet for capturing women and that he was to put her back. The younger one responded by groping his hostage again, and the older one, pissed, attacked. It was a brief struggle, and the older one overpowered the other one and knocked him out cold after a minute of frantic fisticuffs. The victor then roughly returned the Somali woman to the hostage center. In waiting for combat, many of the vikings took to talking about the fight and there was some debate as to whether or not they, as Vikings, should be able to stake claims on and keep hostages. There were some members of the Viking confederation that did that, like the Principality of India, but the Duke of Cyprus strictly forbade it. The aforementioned older viking in particular bide his time by mumbling negatively to himself about rookies.

Raid on Somalia, Part 4

The Flight Officer had rotated with the XO for Recon Duty, allowing her to get some rest. She had taken a liking to her job, but that was besides the point. The contingent was creeping closer, and she was worried that the Vikings might not be able to fight them off. She shook her head lightly, and laid on the uncomfortable, but large, bed in the crew quarters, courtesy of the NIAF High Command. A few sounds of amusement escaped her lips, having witnessed the scuffle. "I do wonder.." Her thoughts were cut off when the plane shook. Turbulence, most likely, or a Air Tanker refueling the plane. Either way, the plane would have plenty of time to stay in the air, thin as it was. She wondered how the hell the engines still worked this high up. "Oh, right. Scramjets." She sighed, and tried to get some sleep, even if it would only be 4 hours.

Raid on Somalia, 1600 Hours (Part 5)
Battle of Mogadishu

A force of 80 was sent in a condensed, ferocious assault on the center of the Somalian line. Right from the start, the intensity of the assault and usage of explosives coupled with vastly superior capabilities on the Lethen side forced the Police to slowly crawl backwards away from the enemy. The first reports of casualties appeared. Within the first five minutes of the battle, there were 15 deaths and 7 injuries on the Somali side, and 4 deaths on the Lethen side.

At 1700, it was planned to prepare for a full assault waiting for the Somali center to break. The rear guard was reduced to only about thirty or so men looking over a rag-tag medical center and the hostages.

Raid on the Republic of Korea (Preparation)

The fleet that had earlier raided the Philippines was on its way back to the Lordship of Prariven in The Chuck when they were informed that their next operation was to strike a target in South Korea. While the vikings were less than happy to be helping Communists, the incredible loot available in South Korea and the beautiful women was decent compensation (even if they were not allowed to take concubines). The 145 ships returned to their home port and began to refuel, while the women captured from their attack in Leyte Island as well as all loot captured were sent to Admiralty courts in the Chuck to be lawfully bound to Viking jurisdiction. As the Philippines reeled in shock, they would soon have to face a gut-punching ransom to take the hostages back that was already on top of the tremendous damage the Vikings dealt.

Raid on Somalia, Part 6

The Flight Officer was sound asleep, though her XO was dozing off as well. He eventually changed shifts with the Navigational Officer, allowing him a 4 hour rest, while the Navigational Officer manned the Viewfinder, observing the battle below, noting the Military Contingent getting closer, about an hour away. He seemed to be unworried, he's been doing this for 5 years. He's got no reason to worry. The Wyvern was above even the most advanced Notovasian AA Systems range, though orbital installations may be able to hit them. No matter. He focused on directing the next in line to man the Viewfinder, a young Cargo Sergeant, to fetch some water from the supplies hold.

Raid on Somalia, 1700 Hours (Finale 1/?)

Routed was the Somali police center! Breaking their line, the entire Lethen line beared down on the Somali police fiercely. Routing them, they were gunned down as they ran. The Battle of Mogadishu was not over, but 54 Somali police were dead so far and 30 more were injured. There was still a problem: the military. They could bear down with moderately superior numbers, though not too much. This could end well, actually, and the Vikings decided that they would stay so they could finish the job properly.

They began to prepare their defense. Starting with taking LMGS and missile launchers from the FACs, they began to set up an advanced defensive line. All able hands except for medics were called up to the front, and a Viking officer aboard the missile boat called the Notovasian Wyvern above requesting assistance to help aim their missile launchers to work like artillery.

The Nav Officer answered back. "This is Wyvern 1-1 Actual, copy that." He gave the order to switch to Combat Roles, as the Viewfinder switched to a marking system, and linking to the Lethen Launchers. When the uplink was completed, the marker automatically began setting radar markers and coordinates, sent directly to the crews of the Launchers. "You're go for launch, we've got SLAM-MR LRCMs loaded onto the Wyvern as well, if you need any extra firepower."

Raid on Somalia (Finale 3/4)
"Copy that Wyvern 1-1 Actual, positive on the extra firepower, over.

The battle ensued. 1500 Somali soldiers against 250 Lethen. A relentless bombardment of anti-ship missiles rained down death from above on the Somali soldiers, eviscerating and tattering their convoy already. The Wyvern struck them further and further. It grinded them down, more and more, and then they made contact with the Lethen line. The vikings grit their teeth, cried a great war cry, and let the full power of their defensive line go. The battle continued for hours, with superior Lethen firepower and artillery halting the Somali push.

RATATATATAT!

Somali numbers dwindling by 200, morale plummeting, good combat positions lacking...the defense had a lot going for them. At approximately 2200 hours, the Somali force was ordered to retreat.

"Run, bastards, run!" cried the older viking from earlier as he fired upon a fleeing guerrilla squad. He saw a younger one get down on the streets and chase them head on. "Don't!"

A member of the guerrilla squad looked behind himself and fired, spraying down the younger one.

"Shit..." The older viking waited for the Somalis to disappear, then went down to inspect his comrade. It was the rookie he beat up earlier!

"F-fuck!" exclaimed the boy. "It's.." He coughed up some blood. "You...you old prick!"

"Quit your yapping, boy, we've got to get you to the rear."

"Fuck that...just let me die here!"

"Boy, that was an AK47. You're not going to die from a few cheap hits to your fucking tit!"

And so, the Viking Boy was taken back to the rear guard to heal. An officer told him he was barred from handling hostages in any raid for the next month and received a demerit to his file for breaking rank, much to his dismay. Now he really wanted to die. It didn't help that his comrades thought he was weak, too, because he was beat up.

Soon enough, the Vikings spent another three hours trashing and plundering the city. Feeling particularly spiteful about the military response, they decided to light everything on fire as they hauled mostly-kicking-and-screaming women and children over their shoulders, kicked the men out, and vanished.

The Viking Boy slipped into a brief depression and didn't particularly want to be near his peers who shamed him right now, so he took a trip out of Cyprus and into the mainland of the Notovasian Tsardom. He wound up in a tavern somewhere in Constantinople...

The Wyvern groaned as the bays opened, black missiles exposed to the frigid air. "Authorize 'Scorched Earth', Ma'am?" The CO nodded. "Authorized. Burn Mogadishu to the ground." The Nav Officer nodded, pressing a button, the roar of missiles, at first loud, then trailed off, as 2.5 Megaton Missiles sailed down from the aircraft, creating brilliant fireballs as they impacted, tearing anyone and anything within 4 km of their landing areas to charred ashes. The raid was done, and with it, the Sultanate's grip on the Aden and Red Seas. The Wyvern closed its bay doors, and set a course to Narcosia Air Base.

A woman tapped the man on the shoulder, blushing but stoic. "Hey. How did you get those bruises?" And thus, something was born....likely someone along with it!
