As a general rule, the Free Kingdom of Allanea frowns on the idea of 'purchasing enslaved persons to set free', on the obvious logic that the laws of supply and demand mean that this encourages further activities aimed at enslaving more persons. In this way, well-wishers often end up encouraging more slavery.

However there are some circumstances in which this action is fully permissible (for example, when negotiating the end of slavery in a given society). Another example of a situation in which the massed purchase and liberation of enslaved persons is permissible is of course where the alternative is bloody human sacrifice.

By threatening the killing of child slaves, the 'Theocracy of CPA' (we do not dignify it with legal recognition has forced the hand of the international community – it is clear that we cannot allow the death of thousands of innocent children to occur on our watch, nor is there any viable route to prevent the killing except by paying the ransom (since this is in fact a ransom).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has drawn on its emergency budgets and is now willing to buy as many enslaved persons as we reasonably can. We would like to inquire however, how many enslaved persons does the 'Theocracy' still have unsold.
