Landmines have been with humanity ever since the invention of gunpowder, and – if one includes caltrops and spike pits as a primitive landmine – probably since humanity has invented war. And as long as there have been landmines, there have always been one essential problem:

How do you know the people being killed by the landmines are enemy soldiers, and not a random schoolchild or neurotic fox picking at the tripwire?

Allanean Arms has presented a range of solutions for this problem, in the form of Minefield Management Computers, timed self-destruction devices, and so forth. One such solution we as a company believe in is the Bloodflower anti-personnel bounding landmine.

The mine itself is a simple, plastic-body cylinder. Its dimensions match those of a variety of common bounding landmines (especially those produces in Socialist Block countries), allowing their launching from a variety of standard mine dispensers, or hand-emplacement. When deployed, the mine stands vertically on four petal-shaped springs (as seen in the image above). These springs form the principal sensor for the landmine.

As animals, human beings, or vehicles pass nearby (within 150 meters), the mine detects the ground vibrations introduced by their movement. This allows the mine to separate the movement of animals and tracked vehicles from that of individuals. Should a human being be detected, the mine activates its magnetic sensors. At this point, should an individual who is armed (i.e. carrying at least 150 grams of metal) come within the mine's lethal radius (16 meters), the mine's detonator is set off, launching it to about the waist height of a regular human being.

Within the mine are contained partially prefragmented metal rings, essentially razor-sharp toothed rings, which separate into their separate 'teeth' upon an explosion. This is estimated to have a 100% likelihood of killing or disabling any personnel within 8 meters of the mine, and any personnel not wearing modern body armor within 16 meters of the mine (though safely is obviously not completely guaranteed beyond these radii – an in body armor can still get injured in an exposed body part even beyond 8 meters, and generally, of course, the shrapnel does not stop on the spot when it hits those boundaries!

Beyond this, the mine can be fitted with tripwires instead, which would attach to the anchoring points at the top, or alternately have any of the standard fuzes we produce also attached. (Such as a UEF-6 Electronic Fuze

The mine's electronic controller is a fairly simple, yet EMP-hardened device chip. Its settings can be altered somewhat at factory or at the armory (adjusting sensitivity, time for self-destruction, etc.) It can also be programmed to shut off the mine's sensor at scheduled times (up to 3 times within a 24-hour interval) to allow friendly troops to transition within.

When the battery powering the chip runs out, and if a different fuze hadn't been inserted, the mine self-destructs. Attempts to remove the chip after the mine had been activated will cause the mine to detonate. [color=red]DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE ANY CHANGES OR ADJUSTMENTS TO AN ACTIVE MINE! ALLANEAN ARMS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURIES RESULTING FOR HANDLING OF AN ACTIVE BLOODFLOWER MINE!

However, if the chip hadn't been chosen as the mine's control method, it can be emplaced using any other fuze or control method, and in this mode can remain in place indefinitely.

The Bloodflower can be only remotely-deployed when using its original fuzes, either in the battery-operated sensor mode, or when triggered by its own attachable tripwires (which, in this mode, are lfung out and deploy automatically when remote-deployed). In this latter case, the battery is not used.
