Airport History

From the dawn of air travel to the early 2000's, Arthropol City was served by Marignane Airport, located just outside the city. With its two runways, it could serve many passengers, but as travel demand kept growing and with the airport hitting 75 million passengers a year, the authorities looked at an expansion. However, the surrounding land was either already developed, and was not suitable for airport expansion. So, the authorities started work on an ambitious project, to build a new airport within three years. The location chosen was near Arthropol City, and land was reclaimed from the ocean to build the airport. Within one year, the airport was nearly complete, and was fully complete within two years. On 11 May 2005, Arthropol City International Airport was officially opened by King Charles IV. It was a modern design with four runways, an in its first year of operation, it received a record breaking total of 102 million passengers.

Transportation Information

Despite being located a fair distance away from the city centre, Arthropol City International Airport is well served by public transport. Thanks to an underground tunnel built in 2007, travel times have been slashed to the airport. The rail station at the airport is served by the TER S-train, TGV high speed train, and the Métro Line 2, linking the airport to the main rail station, Gare Saint-Charles and the city centre. It is also served by Métro Line 8, linking the airport to the northern areas of the city. The airport is served by bus connections, with multiple bus services linking the airport to Arthropol City. Taxis are also available, with an average fare of €25 to the city centre. Average journey times to the city centre are 20 minutes by TER or TGV, 35 minutes by car, 40 minutes by metro, and 60 minutes by bus. Average fares are €10 for one day of car parking, €0.5 for metro and bus with a travel card, and €5 for metro and bus without a travel card. Travel cards are purchasable at any metro station with a passport or national ID card for €10 for EU citizens and €20 for foreigners.

The airport itself is very accessible. Inside the airport, there are trains linking each terminal, which depart every two minutes. Inside the airport, airlines may choose to use golf carts to transport Business Class passengers directly from lounges to their gate, also they may choose to utilise Royale Luxe sedans to transport First Class passengers directly to their aircraft. Passengers who have to board at a remote stand are transported by a bus from their gate to their remote stand, Business Class passengers have a special bus dedicated to them. Passengers walking through a terminal also have travellators for their use to travel faster from one gate to another.

Passenger Amenities

Arthropol City International Airport offers a myriad of amenities to the travelling passenger.

A sleeping pod

The first of these are the Sleeping Pods. Located around the airport, passengers can utilise these pods by scanning their boarding pass, where they can climb into a pod, and sleep. There is a small storage area suitable for all your carry on items. Passengers can climate control their pod so they can sleep in comfort. The pod offers a soundproof wall, so no noise can be heard from inside. The built in alarm is designed to wake you up 15 minutes before your scheduled boarding time, but can be set to any time before your scheduled boarding time. Passengers can connect their devices to charge or play music, which helps some passengers sleep. These pods are especially useful for passengers with overnight layovers, which allows you to sleep well without having to pay for lounge access.

A view of the Natural Area

The second of these is the Natural Area. Located in the Star Alliance Terminal 2 and funded by Star Alliance member Arthropol Airlines, it is a 10000m² area of natural beauty. In the middle of the area is a massive waterfall, and around the sides are many trees. Located in amongst the trees are a variety of restaurants and areas, including an area to lie down to meditate or rest, parks with tables to eat or chat with friends, suspended playground areas for children, and suspended walkways to enjoy the natural beauty of the trees. At night, LED's and screens located in the water and in the glass above can turn the area into a thriving ecosystem, with a dazzling display of lights in the waterfall, and a vibrant night sky displayed in the glass above. Passengers from all terminals except Terminal 1 can access the area by the airport transit train.

The Airport Fitness Area

The third of these is the Airport Fitness Area. Located between terminals 2 and 3, the Fitness Area features a full size gym, 50 metre swimming pool, a spa, a FIFA standard football pitch, a 800-metre running track, and a 2 kilometre walking circuit. Passengers from all terminals except Terminal 1 can access the area by scanning a valid boarding pass in one of the entrances of the space.

Terminals

Arthropol City International Airport has 8 terminals, three of which are open to multiverse airlines.

Terminal 1 is the Schengen Area* terminal. This terminal does not have passport control, and only operates domestic, regional and international flights within the Schengen Area*. This terminal only has 25 gates with jetbridges, all other gates are stands where passengers board by stairs. This allows for faster turnaround time of aircraft, and more efficient operations. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Terminal 2 is the Star Alliance terminal. This terminal has passport control, and only operates flights to non-Schengen countries. The majority of this terminal has jetbridges, for easier accessibility for passengers. Star Alliance airlines flying from non-Schengen countries should ideally use this terminal to gain the advantage of passengers being closer to other connecting partner airlines. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Terminal 3 is the SkyTeam terminal. This terminal has passport control, and only operates flights to non-Schengen countries. The majority of this terminal has jetbridges, for easier accessibility for passengers. SkyTeam airlines flying from non-Schengen countries should ideally use this terminal to gain the advantage of passengers being closer to other connecting partner airlines. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Terminal 4 is the OneWorld terminal. This terminal has passport control, and only operates flights to non-Schengen countries. The majority of this terminal has jetbridges, for easier accessibility for passengers. OneWorld airlines flying from non-Schengen countries should ideally use this terminal to gain the advantage of passengers being closer to other connecting partner airlines. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Terminal 5 is the cargo terminal. This terminal operates all cargo flights, to both Schengen* and non-Schengen destinations.

Terminal 6 is a multiverse international passenger terminal**. This terminal has passport control, and only operates flights to international destinations in the NationStates multiverse. The majority of this terminal has jetbridges, for easier accessibility for passengers. Airlines should ideally use whichever terminal has more of their partner airlines. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Airlines may request a 25 m x 25 m x 6 m plot to build a lounge. Multiverse businesses may open branches in this terminal.

Terminal 7 is a multiverse international passenger terminal**. This terminal has passport control, and only operates flights to international destinations in the NationStates multiverse. The majority of this terminal has jetbridges, for easier accessibility for passengers. Airlines should ideally use whichever terminal has more of their partner airlines. Gates are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Airlines may request a 25 m x 25 m x 6 m plot to build a lounge. Multiverse businesses may open branches in this terminal.

Terminal 8 is a multiverse international cargo terminal**. This terminal operates all cargo flights, to international destinations in the NationStates multiverse.

Connections

Arthropol City International Airport is a very easy airport for connecting passengers.

Connecting from Schengen* to Schengen* flights: Passengers can directly head to their boarding gate. Luggage goes directly to final destination.

Connecting from non-Schengen to Schengen* flights: Passengers go through passport control and take airport train to Terminal 1. Luggage goes directly to final destination.

Connecting from Schengen* to non-Schengen flights: Passengers go through passport control and take airport train to terminal. Luggage goes directly to final destination.

Connecting from non-Schengen to non-Schengen flights: Passengers can directly head to their boarding gate. Luggage goes directly to final destination.

Comments/Questions/Requests: We are currently looking for a new hub expansion and Arthropol Airport seems to be great. If possible we would like to request that we can build our own border security/ airline security as our nation is very strict and we ant to make sure everything complies. If the number of flights we send is to many we are more than willing to construct another terminal or expand the current one.

It also steeamlines travel as passengers can just leave at the other end. As our nations laws don’t allow anoyone but Buisness men and the ultra rich to leave we would like to request a larger than normal First class (Sunset Lounge) and If possible two other lounges (as stated above). Due to the richness of the travelers we cater to we also allow the ultra rich to fly their private jets under our callsigns so smaller jets will land and be catered to by our ground crew. We also run our own system if out of airport checkins ie we search and clear a passenger who is then helicoptered into the airport and driven tot he plane. We would love to expand these operations here to hotels if possible.

We also operate our own refueling, catering and cleaning so we are happy to cover costs on constructing the facilities needed for this. Due to our large number of flights we would like to request reserved gates at certain times of the day (9am-1pm and 5pm-11pm).

You are not allowed to build your own border security, the airport is under the soverignity of the Kingdom of Arthropol, and all passengers must go through Arthropol standard security checks and EU Schengen Area customs and border controls. Extra terminals are not needed. General aviation and private aircraft are not allowed at the airport, due to high traffic, except for emergencies and government approved aircraft. Helicopters are also banned near the airport airspace due to safety concerns because of high traffic. Passengers checkin at the airport. Refuelling is done by a company at the airport, and catering and cleaning are done by a choice of companies at the airport. Gates are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
