Air Turkestan is the flag carrrier and biggest airline of the Turkic Republic. It was created in 1992, after the nations Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan joined together after independence from the Soviet Union to become stronger together. It originally used mostly Soviet made planes, and temporarily ceased operations during the Turkic Civil War from 1999 to 2005. After the bloody civil war, the airline started operations again, using some Soviet airliners and a leased A320. After a few crashes, the airline was quickly banned from the European Union. However, the government bought some new used aircraft for the airline, and provided crew training to have a better safety record. The airline is now one of the biggest and safest in Asia, and flies to many destinations around the world. It is a member of the airline alliance SkyTeam.
