As the flag carrier of Hindia Belanda, we are the world’s gateway to the idyllic, diverse and culturally rich archipelago where East meets West. We bring the best of service and hospitality that are unmistakably Hindia Belandan to you, from the moment you book your flight to the moment you leave your airport at your destination. Every little detail has been meticulously prepared with you in mind to give you a personal and unparalleled flying experience.
A KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf Convair PBY Catalina at Schiphol, Amsterdam
The story of AirNederlands Indië began in 1947, just two years before Hindia Belanda became an independent constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Then known as KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf, a subsidiary of KLM, our airline operated air services between the islands of Hindia Belanda and neighbouring territories such as British Malaya, the Philippines and Australia, to support the growing demands for air travel in the formative years of the Commonwealth.
A year later came one of the darkest moments in Hindia Belandan history. Forces of belligerent Autonomists and Republicans clashed and fought bloodily over a period of one year known as The Clashes, over differing opinions regarding the fate of the colony. KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf modest fleet of 5 Convair CV-240 and 4 DC-3s were evacuated to mainland Netherlands almost overnight, as the fighting turned to vandalism and sabotage.
A KLM-IB branch office in Waingapu, Sumba Island
It was not until late 1949 when Hindia Belanda became a constituent country with independence over its own affairs that KLM-IB returned to service in the archipelago. In the one year absence of KLM-IB, most flights within the colony were facilitated by the Royal Dutch Air Force, accessible only to certain individuals who had been pre-cleared by the colonial government. This was seen by the Republicans as an offensive move on the Autonomists’ part and as such an airline called Nusantara Raya Airways was illegally established to cater to people who had been barred from flying on the Royal Dutch Air Force flights.
Nusantara Raya Airways acquired two DC-3s from unnamed private individuals, which it operated for flights between Batavia (now Jakarta) and other cities of Hindia Belanda. Although it was essentially illegal, the colonial authorities were pressured by the Autonomists to turn a blind eye to Nusantara Raya Airways in the hope that it would help end the bloody conflict.
When KLM-IB finally returned to service, it undergo a merger with Nusantara Raya Airways to form what is now AirNederlands Indië.
Rapid growth The newly formed AirNederlands Indië took further deliveries of 10 Convair CV-240s which the airline operated for its inaugural flights to other Central and Western European countries besides the Netherlands by way of Singapore, Port Blair, Hyderabad, Muscat, Ha'il, Athens and Milan. By mid 1950s, the airline seasonally operated one of the first Hajj flights from Asia using the newly acquired Convairs.
As these new European routes turned to be lucrative, AirNederlands Indië expanded into neighbouring Asian countries, with a regular weekly flight to Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo from its base in Jakarta. The airline enjoyed a period of rapid growth during this time, characterised by its frequent acquisitions of new aircraft and route expansions. By the early 1960s, it had taken delivery of its first jetliner Douglas DC-8 which allowed the airline to fly farther routes without making refuel stops.
At AirNederlands Indië, we take our environmental responsibility very seriously and commit to join the global efforts in mitigating the detrimental impact of accelerated climate change.
Acting responsibly It is part of our corporate culture to act responsibly towards the environment. We are conscious of the very fact that our flights are entirely operated on kerosine, which produces carbon dioxide as it combusts. Nitrogen oxide and water vapour are amongst the byproducts of kerosine which affect air quality, especially near the ground. These are harmful gases that harm our environment and we are committed to decreasing the environmental impact of our operations, both on the ground and in the sky.
Since 2008, AirNederlands Indië has greatly reduced its carbon footprint through various means. The advent of new technological breakthroughs and innovative aircraft types help our company achieve near carbon neutrality. We currently have on order Bombardier C Series aircraft which will replace our older Bombardier Dash 8s on short and medium domestic haul. Our new Airbus A350-900 and -900ULR aircraft, with further orders of the -1000 variant, have fully replaced our older A340s to fulfil our commitment to reduce the environmental impact made by four-engined jets, which more often than not require higher maintenance cost and materials.
The Boeing 777-300ER, the largest aircraft in our fleet, has state-of-the-art technology designed to maximise efficiency and passenger comfort on our ultra long routes. In comparison with our previously operated A340s, the 777-300ER can save up to 25% in fuel and 23% of carbon emissions for every single seat, thereby dramatically lessening our environmental impact.
We recently welcomed the Airbus A320neo to our modern fleet, which features innovative cutting-edge technology aimed at providing more efficiency and comfort with its blended sharklets, seen in the A350, and its intelligent air purifying system. The neo variant is set to fully replace our older A320 by Q1 2018.
Objectives Although the road to becoming a carbon neutral company is still long, we aim to achieve the following objectives with the intention of becoming completely carbon neutral by 2035:
Improve fuel efficiency by 1.8% annually
Endeavour to procure all goods from sustainable sources or with the least environmental impact
Ensure any growth in our operations is carbon neutral
Participate in the Commonwealth Government's Carbon Offsetting Programme
By 2030 to have halved our carbon emissions over 2004 (the year we emitted CO2 the most)
AirNederlands Indië is different, and the difference is in the details. Across all classes of flight, expect a high attention to detail for your utmost comfort and wellbeing throughout your journey.
Enter a world of exceptional comfort and service. At AirNederlands Indië, we want you to experience the world-famous Hindia Belandan hospitality from the moment you book your flight to the moment you leave the airport at your destination. There is a partition which can be extended through the seat controls to provide complete privacy to your space. At night, ambient lighting inside your Suite will come on at the touch of a button, which can be set to any colour theme of your choice, each evoking a particular atmosphere.
Numerous storage spaces of variable sizes are located throughout your suite and a personal wardrobe large enough to neatly store two jackets or even a full-length evening gown is conveniently located beside your Suite partition for quick access. A sliding minibar on the side of your seat, stocked with fresh Hindia Belandan beverages, ensures that they stay cold throughout your journey. There is a concealed vanity unit beside your personal wardrobe which comes complete with lit mirror and ample room to store your beauty products.

First Dining
In First Class, you are given a lavish dining experience with our signature 8-course meal that is served at lunch, dinner or supper accompanied with some of the most exquisite wine labels from Hindia Belanda and across the world. At breakfast, you are presented with a choice of international dishes or full Rijsttafel service, parading the best of Hindia Belandan cuisine from across the Nusantaran archipelago. As a First guest, you decide when we may serve you so you can plan your time to suit your personal needs and make the most of your time onboard.
By request, instead of ordinary dishes, you can enjoy our award-winning Avant-Garde Menu at lunch, dinner or supper, depending on your flight.
Our avant-garde menu is crafted to embody the Hindia Belandan nature in its most candid and raw. These dishes are an expression of the unique approach taken by our culinary team, headed by our Director of Culinary Research, to capture an entire ecosystem in the Hindia Belandan wilderness and present them on your plate. Our avant-garde dishes are simply put a marriage of ingredients found in a particular ecosystem within the great Hindia Belandan nature, where organisms form a symbiotic relationship with one another.
You must place your reservation for the avant-garde dining at most 24 hours before your departure to give our culinary experts enough time to prepare your dishes, as all ingredients are freshly supplied on the day of your flight and thus may not be readily available at the last minute. Due to the nature of the dishes, we cannot adapt our avant-garde ingredients to meet any religious dietary requirements that you may have.

AirNederlands Indië's fleet of modern jetliners is amongst the youngest in the skies. We are continually investing in modern fleet and high-performance flight management systems to deliver the highest level of comfort and standard of flying experience, and to fulfil our environmental commitment in maintaining sustainable flight operations.
Boeing 777-300ER
The 777-300ER is the biggest aircraft in our fleet, used on our ultra long haul routes. Its state-of-the-art technology provides maximum reliability, efficiency and comfort in the cabin. The 777-300ER can save up to 25% in fuel and 23% of carbon emissions per seat, compared to our formerly operated Airbus A340s.
Equipped with the world's most powerful aircraft engines, the 777-300ER surpasses our long haul flight efficiency expectation by 8%. Its raked wingtips also dramatically improve fuel efficiency on long haul routes and are significantly lighter than winglets found on conventional aeroplanes.
Airbus A350-900, -900ULR and -1000
The Airbus A350 is a technological marvel which sets new standards of comfort and flight efficiency. The new Trent XWB engines are 68 times more powerful than a Formula One engine and, together with the composite materials of the fuselage, help provide a higher maximum takeoff weight. This next generation family of aircraft is set to become the flagship of our airline as it exceeds our efficiency and environmental sustainability expectations.
Lower cabin altitude of 6,000 ft – that's 2,000 feet lower than most conventional jetliners in the market – reduces altitude sickness and helps our passengers feel rested on longer flights
As of September 2017, AirNederlands Indië operates two variants of the A350 XWB family, namely the -900 and the -900 Ultra Long Range, and has the -1000 variant on order for an estimated delivery of December 2017.
Our economy cabin in the A350 is configured in a spacious 9-abreast, 3-3-3 configuration, and the business class in a 1-2-1 configuration. There is no first class cabin on most of our A350s, except for the -900ULR and -1000 variants where it is configured in a 1-2-1 configuration.
Airbus A330-200
Powered by two high performance Rolls-Royce 772B-HPs, our A330-200s can carry a maximum of 258 passengers across three classes of flight and fly up to 4,700 miles with a full load.
From our hubs at Jakarta - Soekarna International Airport, Denpasar - Ratu Rāyalunadēi International Airport and Bandar Kunti - Queen Beatrix International Airport, we connect the rest of the world to the Commonwealth with direct international flights.

Now Open: Concordia Beach Club at Bandar Kunti - Queen Beatrix International AirportSpend your day away from the hectic airport crowd at our newly opened Concordia Beach Club at Queen Beatrix International Airport! This reimagined departure lounge gives you an unprecedented access to a private beach adjacent to the airport complex in Bandar Kunti, where you may swim in the azure sea and relax on the warm sand, or drink masterfully-made cocktails and nibble sumptuous bites to your heart’s content as you wait for your flight.
In an industry characterised in recent times by cost-cutting, often at the expense of travellers’ comfort, AirNederlands Indië intends to restore the Golden Age of Travel where every leg in a journey is a destination of its own. Starting with the Concordia Beach Club in Bandar Kunti, we plan to expand this reinvented travel experience to more exotic destinations around the world.
Also celebrating the grand opening of Concordia Beach Club is STYRATI of Hindia Belanda, the Commonwealth’s leading Maradara liquor producer, with the launch of STYRATI Milky Vale which will be exclusively available at the Concordia Beach Club and Concordia Lounges across the world, well-ahead of its global launch on 23 December. A name synonymous with elegance and refinement, STYRATI has produced the Commonwealth's finest Maradara liquors for 127 years. It represents the high craftsmanship of traditional Hindia Belandan Maradara distillation, using centuries-old recipe with only the finest Mara leaves.
Concordia Beach Club is located by the pristine Lambongan Beach and directly connected to Queen Beatrix International Airport, via a bidirectional travellator within a fully air-conditioned glass corridor. First Suite and Business guests get free access to the beach club, whilst Economy passengers are welcome to purchase an all-day pass which includes food, beverages and access to all facilities within the beach club.
Entrance to the beach club is through a dedicated concourse just before immigration at Terminal 2. Smart casual/swimming attire preferred, but not required.
Limited edition amenity bags From this November until December, your Orelfjör amenity kit comes in a limited edition watercolour bag depicting the Stadhuis of Jakarta, Koningsplein Palace and Rijswijk Palace–all important landmarks of the Commonwealth's capital. We team up with artists from around Hindia Belanda to bring you these limited edition amenity bags and simultaneously give exposure to local artistic talents.
Beginning this November until February next year, you will receive a specially-designed limited edition watercolour Orelfjör bags in the colours of the Jeltronian, Anollasian and Nortan flags, containing exclusive amenities from Orelfjör, when you depart to and from Jeltronia, Anollasia and Great Nortend.
(It's still a work in progress, but applications are now welcome!)

To Mr Dylan Toutain Managing director of Arthropol City International Airport
29 September 2017
Dear Mr Toutain,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Zaynab Knight and I am the Chief Operations Officer at AirNederlands Indië. I am responsible for the overall operations of our airline, which include overseeing procurement and supply of goods, maintaining productive employee relations, fostering beneficial intercorporate relationships, as well as evaluating potential markets to which we may expand our service. I work closely with Mr Mekere Zurenuoc, who is our Chief Commercial Officer in charge of developing an effective commercial strategy, to fulfil these responsibilities.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for sending us your proposal. AirNederlands Indië, as it currently stands, is an emerging company in the Multiverse, despite its already-established reputation as the flag carrier of Hindia Belanda for the past seventy years. For this reason, we are continually assessing prospective markets across the Multiverse where it is strategically and profitably feasible for our airline to establish a presence in.
We have reviewed your proposal for our airline to begin a new route to your airport. Our recent analysis of your country’s aviation market strongly suggests that there is indeed demand for flights between Hindia Belanda and Arthropol, owing to the recently-established diplomatic relations between the governments of our two countries. Thus, I am pleased to say that we have found it profitable to operate three flights per week from our hub at Jakarta - Soekarna International Airport to Arthropol City International Airport. We will fly the inaugural route as soon as next week, using the Airbus A350-900ULR.
Furthermore, we have deemed it cost-effective to construct a dedicated lounge at your airport which will be open to First and Business Class guests of AirNederlands Indië as well as silver or above FLYORANGE members and select passengers of our airline partners.
The following summary has been included in this letter to make clear our operations to your airport:
FLIGHT FREQUENCY: 3 per week; Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday AIRCRAFT TYPE: A350-900ULR GATE: Gate 31 LOUNGE: Concordia Lounge
We look forward to working with the airport management.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for sending us your proposal for a codeshare agreement between your airline and AirNederlands Indië.
As the flag carrier of the Commonwealth of Hindia Belanda, AirNederlands Indië would certainly benefit from being in a codeshare relationship with Arthropol Airlines. For this reason, after a thorough review and study of your proposal by our management board, we have decided to accept your codeshare proposal.
This codeshare relationship entails the following agreements:
Both AirNederlands Indië and Arthropol Airlines agree to share certain flights operated by either of our two airlines and market them under each of our respective flight numbers.
On codeshare flights, First and Business Class (or equivalent) passengers of our two airlines, including eligible members of our respective frequent flyer programmes, are given access to either one of our lounges, where available.
This codeshare agreement will be annually reviewed by both airlines, and may be renewed or ended accordingly depending on future circumstance.
We look forward to working with your airline to deliver a smooth flying experience to our passengers, and to provide them with more destinations across the world.
