Cayuga-Macami International Airport is the only airport in the territory of Cayuga-Macami. The airport has constantly been at the top of many scales as the best airport in terms of service and cleanliness in the world. With over 70,502,000 passengers passing through the airport and over 411,530 flight movements annually, the airport is also one of the world's busiest.
History
Cayuga-Macami International Airport, officially Cayuga-Macami Lori Peterson International Airport replaced the old Cayuga Airport in 2004. The airport was built by reclaiming land and merging four islands into one mega island.
Proposals for the airport were floated by the City Council of Cayuga since 1985 due to the Cayuga Airport running over capacity and the airport being surrounded by development. However, the airport didn't get attention until 1992 when AirCayuga Flight 25 overran the single runway, ending up in a residential development and costing over 2,000 deaths.
The airport received its federal funding in May of 1998 to start construction and the groundbreaking was in December of 1998. The airport opened on October 18, 2004 with the first flight landing as AirCayuga Flight 5444 from Vancouver, Mjobsarous. The last flight to depart the airport was on October 17, 2004 as LATAM Brasil Flight 98.
