Mendoza Lionel Messi Airport is the airport serving the Mendoza Wine Region and the city of Mendoza itself. The airport is named for Lionel Messi, an Argentine soccer player. The airport handled 10,118,794 passengers in the last calendar year and over 111,197 flight movements. It is categorized by the FAA as a secondary commercial hub.
The airport is connected to central Mendoza by a highway and local access roads. Future plans to expand tram and bus service to the airport are being proposed by Mendoza's City Council. However the plans, originally with much support, are now being criticized due to the dip in passenger numbers and airlines backing out of the airport in recent months.
The airport currently has 2 terminals, capable of handling international and domestic flights.
