Propulsion & Power
The AC1C1 is a Pressurized Water Reactor utilizing nuclear fission for the purpose of heat production to be used to create steam for usable work. The SD1H3 is jointly designed by Halcyon Arms, Chinovian Specialized design and Asimov Engineering and built by Halcyon Arms. Core life is expected to be twenty years, depending on operations, maintenance, and modifications made. Utilized for only electrical power, the core may last for up to 60 years. Presently the AC1C3 is only used on the Oceana-class. The reactor core is rated to 3,700 MW production capacity and utilizes highly enriched uranium as fuel. The Uranium is made into uranium oxide pellets which are then clad in zircaloy to make fuel-plates, which are stacked with gaps between them (for coolant to pass through), and made into assemblies, which are then assembled around a center channel design for the control rod to pass through, making a fuel assembly. This fuel assembly is immobile within the core.
The AC1C3 is a two-loop reactor plant design, using highly pressurized and purified water as both coolant and moderator. The heated coolant passes through a boiler unit, heating it's water to produce steam. This water is then pumped back to the core by a reactor coolant pump, one per loop, where it passes around the reactor vessel, mixing with water from the other loop and then through a colander to ensure proper mixing of the coolant and filtration of debris, should any exist. From the colander the water passes up through the first-pass fuel channels for the initial heating, then out, around, and down the fuel assemblies to again pass upwards through the second-pass fuel channels, heating up the coolant further before ejecting it into the outlet region, where the coolant is sent back through towards the boiler units. The boilers provide steam for five turbine generators, two of which are used to power the reactor coolant pumps, and the other three powering the Common Electrical Distribution System.
Due to using water as a coolant/moderator, the reactor achieves natural stability. If the reactor experiences an up-power transient the coolant heats up further it will be less dense and moderate fewer neutrons, so more neutrons will escape the core, again lowering reactor power back to it's original state. The only process, therefore, which will change reactor power and maintain it steady-state at that new power is a change in steam-demand, save for massive introductions of poisons which drive the reactor out of it's power range, such a protective "Scram". Conversely, other factors can change temperature, namely the introduction of poisons, to include control rods. Control rods are used for reactor control as well as protection; in the event of a loss of power they will automatically scram (insert to the bottom of the core, shutting it down completely). This can also be done by the operator or by automatic action in the event of other casualties as well. Additional safety features include automatic filling of the reactor, should the core become depressurized and risk becoming uncovered, which would mean a lack of coolant and would allow for potential meltdown. With this, significant release of fission-product contamination external to the hull of the ship is guarded against.
The AC1C3 is capable of operating up to 10% power without powering it's reactor coolant pumps; this natural circulation can be used for both decay heat removal and low power operations, making the reactor plant relatively quiet, but this natural circulation also provides for power transient-response and is not suitable for combat operations. As they are easy to cool without operator action or electrical power, the AC1C3 is remarkably safe when shutdown. This also means that the reactor plant can perform a battery-only start-up, which is highly valuable for combat scenarios or a loss of all reactor plants simultaneously.
Radiation shielding is required and makes up the outside of the reactor compartment, which houses the reactor, boiler units, coolant loops, reactor coolant pumps, pressurizer, and filtration system. The shielding is made up of borated poly, water tanks, steel, and lead. It also has photovoltaic cells lining the inner wall to provide a trickle-flow of electricity to power the ship's battery and auxiliary reactor-plant batteries. With the reactor at power this trickle flow can be used to maintain supply of electricity to critical components. Entering this reactor compartment while the reactor is at power is considered to be deadly, but the layered shielding is so sufficient that personnel working in the propulsion plant will receive less radiation than those working on the weatherdecks of the vessel.
In the event of a loss of power, several emergency diesel generators can provide auxiliary power. This are primarily designed to support the reactor plant's automatic fill protection system, but they can also be aligned to the common electrical distribution system for propulsion power.
The electrical distribution system operates off of a nine-sector system, each quadrant powered by a single turbine generator. Each sector is supported by a capacitor system to allow for powering of large loads. The forward and aft sectors power the large anti-ballistic missile lasers, with the center sector powering the Over-The-Horizon radar. All sectors power lighting, ventilation, critical components, communication, as well as smaller auxiliary loads. Flanking sectors are responsible for generic power and propulsion power, though the centerline electric plants and even the opposing electric plants can be made to power an of the main engines. Each of the reactors is capable of providing up to 60% of propulsion power.
The Oceana uses a revolutionary magnetohydrodynamic drives that produce a massive 750,000,000 horse power. The four rear-mounted drives have no moving parts making the oceana class run silently. Unlike smaller craft where the MHD drives require heavy power plants, the Oceana class does not have this problem. The triple AC1C3 power plant produces sufficient energy to power the drives ten times over. The drives allow for the oceana to turn rapidly and stop much faster the similar large ships. The Oceana can go from flank speed to full reverse or from a stand still to flank speed instantly as there are no gears to strip, drive shaft to break or any other moving parts to break.
Amenities:
Crew amenities found on the Oceana are a newly designed system not currently found on any other Chinovian Navy ship. Each individual sailor is allotted their own "Coffin-Rack," which storage underneath the rack, which sits in a tray that can be lifted to expose personal storage space, as well as a personal locker. Each rack space comes with a personal reading light, towel-hangar, emergency egress breathing device stowage, personal six-outlet power strip, and a state-of-the-art Smart Reveille Suite, or SRS.
The SRS monitors the sleep pattern of the sailor, and can be programmed in with the applicable Watchstation Schedule, Morning Routine & Muster, et cetera. For those requiring certain amounts of sleep such as pilots, it can also advise the sailor on when they should be falling sleep. The SRS is a built in computer roughly the size of a smart-phone, built into the rack itself and is tamper resistant. It also includes vibration sensors which are, as a standard, built into the walls and base of the rack, as well as separate remote sensors to be able to differentiate natural ship motion from the motions of the sailor.
To promote healthy sleep, the SRS will begin playing soft music of the sailor's choice to ease them awake within the optimal period prior to their next appointment, as well as emitting "peaceful" light.
In the event the sailor is late for watch or muster, a louder alarm and brighter lights will be emitted.
The speakers for the sounds are directed inward, and additional sound-proofing is provided to prevent disturbing other sailors.
While differing on each ship and in each compartment slightly, each berthing location houses between eight and 12 enlisted sailors. Officer berthings may be singular, double, or a quartet, depending on rank and station. Each berthing space comes with one computer, which, when available, is linked to the ship's internet and unclassified network; internet browsing on this network is often limited for security reasons, though general social media is allowed. A separate web-browser notebook is also provided to allow sailors to download movies, games, videos, et cetera, and more extensive chat with family. While still monitored for security reasons, this is not connected to the ship's unclassified data network and is more free to use.
Each berthing space has an ample amount of electrical outlets and storage space, both communal and personal, to allow for personal gaming systems, and each berthing space has one large flatscreen TV, with space for an extra. Additionally, every berthing space has their own minifridge and microwave oven.
For every forty sailors there is an additional community space, allowing for more activities to include the watching of movies, TV, gaming, et cetera, without disturbing those sleeping at the time.
For every sixteen sailors there is at least one head, to include two showers, two toilet stalls, and three sinks, though some areas may include more based on availability. These are often of stainless steel construction for sanitary reasons, and the shower-stalls are curtained off, though some may include a hard vanity door.
Gym services include rowing machines, various styles of treadmills, weight machines and racks, yoga mats and equipment, sports equipment for any open areas, and more at the request of the ship's recreational officers.
Flight deck and Superstructure:
The Oceana utilizes a unique center-line flight tower behind the main superstructure, allowable by it's added girth in comparison to other carriers, though the tower, though long, still maintains itself as being a couple dozen feet wider than an elevator. Inside both the fore and aft ends of the tower are aircraft elevators, reinventing the concept of internal elevators, dropped after WWII due to the interruption of flight-deck space; rather, now, sacrificing tower-space. The added two elevators are necessary in assisting in moving aircraft about the flight deck during Flight-Operations (FLOPS), taking into consideration the ability to land twice as many aircraft as a typical carrier while also launching the same volume as it's predecessors. These covered elevators also provide an added degree of protection from both enemy munitions and prying eyes, allowing for normal flight-deck preparations to be performed relatively outdoors and rapidly launching the aircraft from a safe location, in the event of war, high-seas, or a black-operation.
Armement:
The main 305mm (12 inch) dual rail cannon can not only fire large, guided rounds, but encased missiles as well, giving it's weaponry unprecedented range, albeit at a slower rate of fire than a VLS-volley, allowing the Phalanx to make deep-inland strikes. With a muzzle velocity of mach 7, a round of the Oceana’s main battery is near unstoppable. Capable of striking installations far inland and enemy fleets, the CAW-MSB-12 makes the oceana deserving of its title: Battle Carrier.
The Oceana also features four 75mm rapid cannons for “Knife range targets” These cannons are capable of anti air, anti ship and anti land operations. For anti-air these cannons can fire “Beehive” shells. The round is equipped with a intelligent delay set by computer detonating the shells at the set altitude; on explosion, the steel stays and the incendiary tubes were ejected in a 20-degree cone forward, with the shell fragments from the explosion itself further increasing the amount of debris. The incendiary tubes ignited about a half-second later and burned for five seconds with 5 m (16 ft) long flames.

Ganesha:
Ganesha is the name given to an extremely powerful optical targeting suite fielded on large warships in a single, stabilized and isolated turret. The system incorporates an extremely high resolution still and video camera with a very large telephoto lens, a Coherent Doppler/LIDAR (CDL) array, a Continuous-Wave Infrared Camera and a set of three laser rangefinders. The armored turret in which Ganesha sits is a low-RCS design which is triple vibration isolated and stabilized with super fine adjustable electric motors. The entire turret is a sealed design, cryogenically-cooled with anti-glare lenses for extreme image quality and outstanding low-light/zero lux performance. Ganesha is designed to provide crystal-clear situational awareness in sensor fusion from a multitude of different sources with an unprecedented level of data coherence and resolution. Ganesha seamlessly integrates identification, targeting and fire control on an ultra-fine level, precisely accounting for all possible variables and bringing to bear a wide network of sensors to completely account for surveillance of the battlespace and also for present threats to the vessel.
Ganesha camera turret:
The turret moves as a unified structure with the primary gimbal, which utilizes direct-drive brushless torque motors with rare-earth magnets and high accuracy angular transducers coupled directly to precision shafts for accurate and smooth 360° continuous motion. The absence of gear trains and other drive mechanisms eliminates position error contributions due to mechanical hysteresis and backlash. Directly-coupled high-resolution position transducers ensure highly accurate and repeatable positioning. A built-in azimuth slip ring provides for continuous rotation. To maximize positioning and velocity performance, high torque brushless, slotless servomotors are utilized throughout the entire assembly. These motors have all of the advantages of a brushless direct-drive motor — no brushes to wear, no gear trains to maintain and high acceleration and high speeds. Since it is a slotless, ironless design, there is zero cogging, meaning that there is absolutely no torque ripple. This results in smoother motion throughout travel and more precise positioning. Large diameter, matched-set ceramic ball bearings maximize performance with respect to wobble, moment stiffness and rotating friction. The ceramic ball bearings are held to ABEC-9 standards, and are much harder than steel balls (over 100% harder). This, combined with their excellent surface finish is the reason they dramatically out-wear steel types. In identical running conditions, the balls in ceramic bearings exhibit less than 10% of the wear of steel balls and have a considerably finer surface finish. The large diameter bearing permits large payload capacity without compromising performance. Casting gimbal yokes provide high stiffness to maintain gimbal accuracy under dynamic conditions.
Sensor Suite:
Ganesha is built around its primary optical sensor, an array of 220 CMOS sensors arranged around a central focusing lens. This "gigagon" array uses the CMOSIS CHR70M, a 35mm optical sensor which operates at 10,000 by 7,096 pixels, or 70 megapixels, at a frame rate of 3 FPS. Together, the combined power of the camera is a whopping 15.4 gigapixels, the most powerful single camera ever built. At full resolution, three full-sized stills can be taken per second, or the camera can be fired at intervals giving higher framerates at lower ultimate resolution for high speed tracking, up to 70 megapixels at 660 FPS, with variable frame rates and image qualities selectable dependent on mission parameters. The focusing lens is fitted to a fully automatic SLR Telephoto lens designed specifically for Ganesha. The massive lens uses direct drive stepping motors to adjust its focus and is fully encapsulated in the Ganesha turret. The zoom focus of the lens is designed to focus on objects between 29 and 52 kilometers away using a Catadioptric system, but with the extremely powerful camera behind it, can resolve extreme detail at much greater distances, with facial recognition possible as far as 120 kilometers. The focal length of the massive lens is 5,150mm with a minimum object distance of 120 meters. Exposure control is accomplished with the use of built-in ND filters, corresponding to f/14, f/16, f/22 and f/32.
The data from the Ganesha camera feeds the ship's central fire control and targeting systems, and is referenced to an 8-Megapixel ultraviolet camera shooting in the 190nm to 400nm range and an extremely long range 1080p continuous wave infrared camera in the 300/2,000mm format with zoom laser diodes. Integrated fire control is provided by a highly advanced 1.5 micron Coherent Doppler/LIDAR array. CDL uses dual summed beams operating spaced apart and at different frequencies to take extremely precise measurements of windspeed, particulate matter and other atmospheric variables between the vessel and the target. Paired to each CDL is a set of three 80mJ Laser Rangefinders, operating at 20 pulses per second at the 635nm wavelength. Each beam has less than .3 mrad divergence and the paired system is used to positively locate and track a target, even one moving at incredibly high speeds so that weapons may be brought to bear to counter the threat.
Saraswati Turret:
An identical armored low-RCS turret to the sensor suite contains an extremely powerful spotlight which can be synchronized to the sensor turret or operated separately. Visible as far as 210 km away and capable of illuminating aircraft at cruising altitudes in the upper atmosphere, the stabilized, fast-moving xenon short-arc lamp is among the most powerful battlefield lights ever produced. A 50-kilowatt xenon lamp is at the heart of Saraswati illumination turret, housed in a graphite housing with carbon/carbon stays reinforced with boron carbide ceramic to handle the extreme heat produced by the massive lamp. The lamp itself is cooled with Fluorinert dielectric fluid and uses ultra smooth gold-coated beryllium parabolic cold mirrors to focus a finely-collimated beam of pure white light through a spinel nanoceramic transparent armor emitter. These lamps produce a tight focus even out to maximum ranges and are extremely useful for battlefield illumination. A switchable infrared filter is contained inside the lamp assembly; a motorized cylinder drives a specially-coated glass cylinder which encapsulates the entire bulb and allows only IR light from the bulb to penetrate the tube, making the powerful light invisible to the naked eye. This allows an extremely powerful IR beam to be shot out to a distance of 70 km, a useful and deadly application for combat operations.
AWACS, AEW and Radar
The powerful Farsight-2 radar system is capable of tracking over 200 targets at unprecedented ranges. On a S-band frequency and a 360 degree azimuth, the FS-2 uses a 3D air search with 12MW of power. The system is computer controlled, using four complementary antennas to provide 360 degree coverage. The four antenna arrays are in six separate deckhouses, with each antenna array containing 296 modules. Additionally, each module contains up to 32 radiating element and phase shifters, and modules are paired to form transmitting and receiving sub-arrays, which are grouped into 68 transmitting and 134 receiving arrays. With a range of 300 NM the Farsight-2 is one of the most powerful radar system on the planet
Exalt:
The massive size of the Oceana class gave need for an additional level of defense against ICBMs and Rods from the god. Exalt fills this need with a extremely phased radar array. Mounted on top of the superstructure, Exalt can detect icbms at a range of 1,450 nm and uses Dash 3 to intercept and destroy incoming threats. The dash 3 accelerates to mach 10 in five seconds after launch. These missiles are stored in large VLS cells which use a cold launch system.
AEW/AWACS Tiered Defence
The first tier is the RAMHS system. RAMHS stands for Radar Absorbing and Manipulation Hull System. Made up of a classified reconfigurable metamaterial which deflects radar waves over a large angle of incidences and broadband tunability. This coating is corrosion resistant. RAMHS absorbs radar waves and sends them to a powerful computer in CIC. The computer processes the waves and sends them back to the emitters which send the radar wave back on an identical frequency and PRF (Pulse repetition frequency). By doing this the ship can appear to be a different ship on radar, in a different location or not there at all.
AWACS is provided by an AWACS/AEW drone. Feathered to the top of the rear flight bridge. The drone makes up the second tier of the Oceana class’s electronic defense and sensory.
