Outside the Depot the necrontyr ships drifted in the upper atmosphere of the gas giant. Starships normally fought at hundreds of thousands of kilometres, but just as they could engage beyond that range, they could also engage at far less. The Erisavenus was parked close by the vast station, its crescent-shaped prow pointed toward it, the distance was perhaps only a few thousand meters; the Erisavenus was longer than the distance to the Depot when it fired.

At this short range the weapon of choice was not the massive lightning arcs nor the gauss whips that the ship used in long range combat, the Depot was well within the engagement range of its interception weapons and the vast C’tani vessel fired with those in preference, beams of energy whickering out from it to lash against the station’s side.

Alongside this the vessel released a torrent of machines into the gas giant’s atmosphere that raced across the clouds that scraped against the war-vessel’s underside, they were stylised in the form of bugs, each of them built around a matter-scraping restructuring device, that could also double as an explosive of minor atomic power; they would consume anything resembling a weapons system on the outer skin of the station even as the mother-ship picked off weapons as they escaped.

The same fate would be reserved for those slavers who tried to flee; the C’tani ships began to teleport bombs into the cloudscape surrounding them, that would act as mines, stirring the clouds and ensuring that no one aboard would be able to leave, though of course, their guns would also fire.

Not just the Erisavenus but four smaller ships engaged the Ascension Depot, surrounding the slave-fort from all sides. They were not aiming to destroy it – yet – but merely to cripple it and enforce the blockade that even now their leader was declaring.

The troops that had been sent to garrison the station were numerous in number, and entirely machine; necrons. They moved with a determined gait throughout the station ‘protecting’ the slave-owners and ‘suppressing’ the slaves. At the moment of transmission, they broke from their tasks and moved to the entrances of the vast auction-hall.

Was there anywhere more loathsome in all the universe than a slave market? Perhaps; but the necrons’ treatment of this wasn’t clear.

They were acting with the element of surprise as they attacked the slave-trade hall, and they were liberal with their firepower. The necrons were formidable, each more than seven or eight feet in height, and equipped with powerful weapons, that lashed energies toward their foes that could strip a human to wisps of vapour in a heartbeat.

Being struck by these gauss flayers – so named because of their magnetic effects although they were quite distinct from traditional gauss weapons – was for the brief moment it took to die, exquisitely painful for most, as layer after layer of skin, then fatty tissues, muscles, and finally bones and organs, were peeled free in a single breath, like an obscene medical scanner working to reveal the body’s innards to onlookers; glancing or partial hits dealt the most grievous wounds imaginable, and the weapons could even claw through bulkheads with comparatively little effort.

Staccato automatic fire rippled from these weapons groups as the necrons turned their weapons on the guards, the bretrayal was sudden, and their death-mask faces prevented any trace of their intentions becoming obvious until the moment of their attack.

They made no distinction between buyers who attempted to flee, or fight back, and guards; only surrender would stay them from attacking; they did not shoot slaves, of course, but had no hesitation, as advertised, in firing should anyone try to use slaves as protection.

In the Preparation Hall, much the same was happening as the C’tani made their will and treachery known, and at the Transport Station, many of the brickhead type transports they had brought powered up and rammed themselves – their solid forward construction making them easily effective as weapons – into other slave-transports, to prevent them fleeing as the mechanical army of the Great Civilization moved in to contest - and claim - the docks and the slaves there.

Backing down is not an option. Welfare for these people will cost tax payers too much, more then they can handle, we need these two hundred million people to keep a stable job to support them selves while not hurting the state, so unless you can help us find stable jobs for these people then we can never back down. The safety and stability of our people and nation are more important then morals which have been, not proudly, disregarded. The goal of this was not to be aggressors and conquer lands and revoke rights, but to create a stability of our economies and to keep the unemployment of our nations. Money inspires innovation with everyone earning there is bound to be someone with an idea to bring millions of jobs and that is what we are looking for.
