Farrell, Inc. Toy Company

Farrell, Incorporated is one of the largest toy companies in Allanea. Founded by Douglass Farrell, a toy designer, and his wife, Svetlana Farrell, a marketing analyst, it had originally produced but a single product.

Initially, Svetlana Farrell hit upon the fact that common scales and sizes for common dolls and action figures were the often the same in many industries. In some ways, she realized, the way children and adults played with these figures was similar in all genders - they dressed then in various clothing, gave them various accessories, and then played games in which the characters portrayed by the dolls were involved in various narratives.

Marketing, she realized, could save a manufacturer large sums of money if a given doll could be marketed both as a doll and as an action figure.

Thus were born two dolls: Cindy and John. Cindy was primarily rolled out as a girls’ doll, with several variants as Cindy the Homemaker, Cindy the Princess, Cindy the Model, and Cindy the Party Girl, while John made his first appearance as Johnny Freeman, Airborne Infantryman. With slight alterations to the model, John the Skier was also launched as Cindy’s boyfriend.

Originally, the different types of figures were advertised entirely separately, with entirely different ads being fielded for different target audiences (an advertisement highlighting Johnny Freeman, Airborne Infantryman’s adventures, for example, was shown during episode of Captain Freedom and the Minutemen, while John the Skier and Cindy the Party Girl had advertisements running during the Dream Factory and similar shows. Later, as shows about the lives of Reichskamphenite noblemen became common, Princess Cindy as also marketed alongside Prince Johann

By this time audiences began realizing the interchangeability between the toys, and the company began openly advertising them as such. The wide variety of accessories, as well as the level of articulation of the toys made them popular in a variety of Allanean families. Later on, Farrell also began issuing a line of action figures on the same scale. Today, the company has expanded, and includes several divisions:

Farrell Figurines: Produces various dolls and action figures on a 1/6 scale, standardized and interchangeable with the original John/Cindy line, as well as accessories for them.

Supernova: Produces plastic scale models of various vehicles, ships, and aircraft, primarily at 1/144, 1/72, and models of ships at 1/350 and 1/700 scale. Those are available in both a regular form (in which they’re expected to be painted by the buyer after assembly) and a prepainted form, in which they only require assembly.

In addition, Supernova produces a range of metal die-cast models for vehicles both civilian and military, at 1/72 scale, and various accessories such as brushes, paints, equipment, etc. Supernova also produces a wargame named Steelfire, which can be played using 1/72 models.

Hugfriends: Hugfriends is a manufacturer of an array of plush toys, both the usual teddy bears, and eagles, skunks, alpacas, cats, penguins and other animals. In addition it produces patriotic plush toys such as plush tanks, a plush Maxim machinegun, and similar items.

FarrellToys: Produces various toys for the 5-12 age group, toy trucks, planes, ships, spacecraft and so forth.

Adventure Gear: Allanea’s largest manufacturer of airsoft, paintball and associated equipment, including replicas of the military FN-FGR rifle. Adventure Gear provides airsoft equipment to both private individuals and educational institutions such as schools, summer camps, and training facilities. It has long-term contracts with several school companies.

Galois Project Galois Project is a line of educational toys and games, ranging from simple toys for infants to elaborate educational video-games for teenagers, named after Evariste Galois. The toy range included educational material in history, philosophy, mathematics, algebra, and general logic. Galois Magazine, aimed at gifted children in the early teens, is also published under the project’s brand.

Charity Involvement

Like most Allanean companies, Farrell Toy Company is involved in various charity activities. Of them the most important are the Farrell Toy Company’s Wintereenmas Toy Drive, in which the company raises donation money from its clients and matches the donations dollar for dollar to deliver toys to disadvantaged children, both in poor neighborhoods in Allanea and in developing countries abroad. The toys are delivered Farrell Toy Company branded trucks.

An additional Toy Drive is carried out in Spring, during Good Business Day. This Toy Drive is funded entirely by the company and its shareholders, as it is the tradition of Good Business Day for companies and wealthy Allaneans to show off their wealthy by holding parties and giving away gifts.

Furthermore, the Farrell Toy Company has established a Farrell Scholarship Fund, for both school students and college students desiring to study graphic design, art, sculpture, toy design, and other artistic specialties which may be of use for toy designers. Students who have successfully completed college studies or certification using the Farrell Scholarship Fund are treated preferentially during Farrell’s hiring process.

In addition, Farrell Toy Company operates the Farrell Charity foundation, which is aimed towards assisting children in need, and particularly children in developing countries. It achieves this both by funding various projects to ensure local development and assist children, delivering toys and games from the Galois Project to schools and orphanages in economically disadvantaged areas and elsewhere, as well as funding initiatives against child trafficking and child abuse.
