Standard issue assault rifle of the NPLA. The rifle is based heavily on the AR-M1 design, but it is somewhat lighter and has several small differences in the finish. Overall, "Pobeda" is an excellent automatic weapon suitable for standard issue to ground troops. "Pobeda" (victory) has served the NPLA in all major conflicts and is the standard rifle of the Leftist Agrarian Revolutionary Union. It performs equally well in temperate climate (Bulgar Rouge), equatorial rainforests (Tamboko), deserts (Democratic Sabha) and sub-arctic to arctic tundra (Democratic Aleutia).
The "Ongal" assault rifle is a Bulgarian clone of the AK-47 Type 3, the most iconic and widespread automatic firearm in the world. "Ongal" rifles are renowned for their excellent build quality and finish, increased durability even compared to similar rifles of other manufacture, and quick availability. A weapon suitable for any occasion, especially where firepower is needed quickly and cheaply. Classic wooden stock and handguard of high quality.
"Topor" (a type of battle axe) is an exceptional automatic rifle with an integrated suppressor. With the increase of special operations carried out by State Security troops, the need for a heavy rifle with a suppressor and many customisation options appeared. The "Topor" thus entered production. In essence, it is a Bulgarian clone of the Val-class rifle. Features a foldable stock, making it suitable for airborne troops.

Primary weapon of NPLA paratroopers, bullpup configuration. QBZ-95 near-clone, chambered in 5.45x39 mm. Main differences with the QBZ-95 rifle are a better finish, vastly superior production and detail quality, and more available 5.45x39mm ammunition. Lightweight and compact, the rifle is ideally suited for special forces like marines and airborne troops. KPT-75 has no grenade launcher mount, but a GA-10 muzzle grenade launcher can easily be fitted onto the weapon. It fires high-explosive, tear gas and illumination rounds. Bullet casings eject to the front, or a 1 o'clock position to the barrel, allowing left-handed firing.
"Arktika" battle rifles were designed as a hybrid between designated marksman rifles and assault rifles to be used in the vast frozen expanses tundras and Arctic environments. The rifle is the standard issue weapon of the Aleutian People's Defence Force and is best suited for alpine or Arctic combat. Fitted with a detachable PSO-1 scope. Supplied with white wooden furniture. Uses an improved SVD-based automatic receiver with a rotating bolt.
Main replacement for the "Septemvri" submachine gun. Standard issue of special forces. "Oktomvri" combines aspects from several different automatic weapons. First, it uses the handy AK-type layout and the loading, firing and safety design is identical to the AK series. Secondly, it is significantly lighter thanks to its smaller size and lighter alloys used in production. Finally, it uses the 5.45x18mm 7N7 cartridge which, while slower than that of assault rifles, is capable of penetrating kevlar and soft body armour at close distances.

"Bulgar-14" is the primary sidearm of Bulgarian military, police and militia personnel. The pistol frame is made of high-strength glass-fiber polyamide. Steel frame base includes the slide guides and accommodates the trigger group. Available with steel or plastic frame and adjustable or fixed sight. Reversible magazine release button enables right or left-hand operation.
"Bulgar-10" is a revolver designed exclusively for plainclothes agents of the Department of State Security. "Bizon" sniper rifle

"Bizon" (bison) is the primary sniper rifle of the NPLA. It is a semi-automatic rifle using heavier 7.62x54mmR calibre rounds which improves efficiency in eliminating targets. The rifle is very resilient and can operate under any conditions, including dust or sand contamination. It builds upon the SVD rifle, but includes a more ergonomic stock and a number of other minor improvements.

"Slana" (hoarfrost) is the standard issue light machine gun and squad support weapon in NPLA service. Standard issue assault rifle of the Revolutionary Shock Brigades of the NPLA. Developed at the Kazanlak-163 Automatic Armory. Combines aspects of both Kalashnikov and Dragunov-class rifles. This rifle was first developed for the open fields of northern and southeastern Bulgaria, where a NATO invasion was anticipated in the early days of Bulgar Rouge rule. The rifle was designed to give an advantage in tactical engagements purely due to range, although its accuracy is somewhat lower than that of traditional AK-class rifles. It retains the provision for side-mounted scopes like the PSO-1, which in itself is designed for the Dragunov rifle on which the "August 16" is based. Discontinued.
Formerly standard issue assault rifle of NPLA Expeditionary Shock brigades. Wood on handguard and stock replaced with desert-coloured polymer. Iron sight optional. The rifle offers modular attachments that would be of utmost necessity to expeditionary forces tasked with a variety of missions overseas. Uses high-power M43 ammunition, but offers more accuracy in comparison with the "August-16" rifle. Attachments include a reflex sight and a night vision scope (by choice). An experimental 2M2 Saturn thermal vision scope was being developed for the rifle, but this development was terminated. This weapon is discontinued.
Main weapon of the NPLA elite 88th Special Operations Brigade. Based on the HK MP5, however using a different calibre of ammunition and an improved receiver box. Currently phased out in favour of "Oktomvri" carbine. "Septemvri" saw short service the Special Operations Brigade which was involved in several cross-border anti-insurgency operations and urban fighting during the Fatherland War. It proved capable in an urban setting, but NPLA doctrine calls for higher firepower in special operations and as a result, the weapon has been phased out and discontinued from production. A large stock of 13,000 weapons remains in reserve.

"Ris" multiple mortar launch system (MMLS)

"Ris" is an innovative Multiple Mortar Launch System (MMLS) designed to provide immediate and direct artillery fire in support of infantry units fighting in urban, mountainous or jungle environments. The MMLS has a number of advantages over traditional self-propelled artillery. Unlike artillery guns or rockets, the "Ris" can fire a salvo of heavy projectiles behind complete cover such as buildings, trenches and pits without having direct visibility of enemy positions. This makes it very suitable for urban warfare, where the enemy might be just one block away and traditional artillery would have difficulties positioning comfortably to fire.

The system carries two remotely operated tube clusters, each holding 12 tubes for 120 mm mortar rounds. A salvo of 24 rounds over a small area would prove devastating to enemy defence positions, especially improvised fortifications without overhead protection. The vehicle - a modified LAZ Drugar truck - carries a reload of 48 rounds, or two additional salvos. Reloads are pre-loaded in 12-round packs ready for manual muzzle insertion, which greatly reduces reloading times.

"Bars" multiple rocket launch system

The "Bars" is a lightweight multiple rocket launcher system (MLRS) designed for peasant revolutionary detachments and rapid reaction forces. It uses a highly mobile 4x4 off-road chassis, allowing it to quickly traverse cross-country or difficult mountainous terrain. When not deployed, it is hardly distinguishable from a civilian cargo truck, making it suitable for surprise attacks and useful in urban warfare. The "Bars" is also light enough to be transported by air and dropped by parachute.

"Bars" is ideally suited for rapid deployment and rapid reaction units operating in rugged areas, light infantry, special forces and paratrooper units. It uses light 128 mm rockets armed with HE, HE-FRAG or chemical warheads, though the standard export version comes with a unitary HE warhead. The vehicle does not carry reloads - they're transported separately.

"Lamya" multiple rocket launch system

"Lamya" is a medium MLRS designed to provide immediate or collateral artillery support to frontline units. It is less mobile and heavier than the "Bars", which makes it better adapted to regular artillery batteries requiring medium-range support. Reloads are carried separately from the vehicle in LAZ Drugar trucks.

"Lamya" is essentially a local development of the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launch system. Firing and salvo mechanics are same, although the targeting system is upgraded and the crew has a digital intelligence feedback node allowing them to pin-point the location of enemy targets in the specific area using combined intel from drones, satellite and other reconnaissance assets.

Ammunition includes standard unitary HE warheads, HE-FRAG warheads, cluster munitions (40 submunitions in each warhead), thermobaric charges and chemical warheads.

"Hala" multiple rocket launch system

"Hala" (storm demon) is the newest and most powerful multiple rocket launch system in NPLA service. It is the most advanced rocket artillery system currently in use, capable of delivering powerful artillery support in the tactical operational area of the enemy. A "Hala" battery consists of four rocket launchers and a Type 18 battery command vehicle. The command vehicle is equipped with digital information processing systems which receive updates from battlefield intelligence assets such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or satellites, allowing the battery to deliver accurate strikes on enemy targets from a long distance. "Hala" systems do not carry reloads and require two loading trucks to follow the battery if additional salvos are required.

The salvo system is greatly improved over previous MLRS models; whereas Lamya, Bars and Ris systems only have two launch modes (full salvo or serial), "Hala" has a programmable fire interface. It can launch one missile or a pack of two to five targeted at different locations without the need for the rocketeers to intervene. Coupled with the great diversity of missiles carried - HE, HE-FRAG, thermobaric, cluster (80 submunitions), chemical, ECM and white phosphorus, the multiple fire mode system makes "Hala" the ultimate long-range tactical weapon.

"Hala" demonstrated a number of great advantages over cruise and ballistic missiles on the tactical scale. With their ability to rapidly deploy and fire large amounts of projectiles with cluster warheads, "Hala" systems bypassed the enemy's elaborate missile defence network and devastated enemy troop formations to cause casualties in the hundreds, eliminate heavy equipment such as tanks and artillery, and return to tunnel bases unscathed. In another incident, several "Hala" launchers firing from the Bulgar Rouge-Greek border successfully eliminated a component of the enemy's missile defence on the island of Thassos, some 110 kilometres away, opening a gap for longer-ranged ballistic missile attacks.

"Vampir" self-propelled mortar

"Vampir" (vampire) self-propelled mortars are used as a short-range mobile artillery support for NPLA mechanised units. It is well-suited for mountainous terrain, attacks against heavily fortified targets and urban warfare. "Vampir" employs a large number of components from BTR-series armoured vehicles, easing logistics and maintenance during conflicts. It is amphibious and supplied with NBC protection.

Its primary armament is a heavy 120 mm breech-loaded mortar equipped with a digital ballistic calculation system. The vehicle carries its own supply of 36 rounds, which can be HE, HE-FRAG, thermobaric or chemical. Apart from steep-angle fire, the mortar is capable of direct fire to support troops against fortified targets in urban environments. "Vampir" can be equipped with a C4I module to interact with data input available to other battlefield units from a diverse array of intelligence sources.

"Zmey" self-propelled gun

The "Zmey" is a 152 mm self-propelled artillery gun manufactured primarily for the export market. A handful of "Zmey" systems are in service with the NPLA, where they have showed great efficiency against fortified bases of insurgents on the Greco-Bulgarian border. The "Zmey" carries its own reload of 28 rounds and the driver cabin is protected by steel plating with a thickness of 10 mm.

Stability during firing is provided by a large steel spade which is deployed from the back of the truck. The "Zmey" is fitted with a computerised fire control system, GPS positioning and targeting systems. Artillery navigation data is provided by a Type 18 battery command vehicle. A "Zmey" battery consists of six artillery systems and a command vehicle.

The gun can fire a variety of projectiles, but it is specialised in HE-FRAG, chemical and ECM rounds. Its ECM package includes the Starshel II electronic jamming rounds, capable of disrupting enemy radio communications on the battlefield. Phosphorus and illumination rounds can also be deployed.

BTR-60 "Pirin" armoured personnel carrier

BTR-60 "Pirin" is the workhorse of NPLA motorised forces. It is the most numerous APC in Bulgar Rouge service with more than 1,000 units in operation. Its efficient design provides for an agile and reliable troop carrier platform under any conditions and on any terrain. Additional equipment includes night vision devices, a panoramic telescope for the commander, and a nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) protection system.

The vehicle follows the BTR-60PB configuration of a three-man crew - driver, commander and gunner - and ten fully equipped soldiers. The troop compartment has three firing slots on each side of the vehicle. The troops exit the BTR through the side door.

Protection
Unlike the traditional BTR-60 versions, "Pirin" employs ultra-high hardness (UHH) steel of 600+ grade, with as many unitary, single-cast components as possible. Compared to the original BTR-series, armour is further improved by kevlar and ceramic lining sandwiched on the top and sides of the vehicle, and the inner surface has a degree of spall lining to minimise damage in case of penetration. Decoupled seats and a reinforced floor improve protection against landmines. The armour can survive 14.5 mm heavy machine gun fire hits, artillery shell fragments, and smaller landmines.

The nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection system includes a gas particulate filter, an aerosol filter to protect against biological agents, and an air filtration and overpressure system for nuclear/radiological protection.

The main armament consists of a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun with a coaxial 7.62 mm light machine gun with optional tracer ammunition. Through interior optimisations, ammunition storage has been increased to 700 rounds for the main gun, and 2,500 rounds for the coaxial gun. Smoke grenades for cover of assault troops are also equipped.

The commander and the gunner both have day and night channel vision devices and a laser rangefinder. The commander is also equipped with a panoramic telescope for broad scanning of the environment for threats; a thermal vision device for both day and night channels is optional. A simple computerised fire control system significantly improves the effectiveness of first engagement shots.

"Rila" armoured personnel carrier

"Rila" is a new generation of armoured personnel carriers in NPLA service. It is a fully indigenous Bulgarian design capable of carrying one standard-sized infantry fire team (10 soldiers) in full gear. Perfectly suited for rapid troop transport and combat zone deployment, supplied with NBC protection, night vision devices, electronic countermeasures and an infrared illuminator. There is also a provision for a remotely-controlled gun turret.

"Rila" is a heavier but more efficient relative of the "Pirin"; it has six road wheels instead of eight, thicker armour, no side gun ports, no crew visors and a bigger fuel capacity. Its crew has been reduced from three to two, reflecting its role as an entirely transport-oriented vehicle with light support functions. Its 16 mm armour makes it impervious to 14.5 mm shots and heavy shrapnel. It also uses only one 165 horsepower engine, as opposed to the two engines of the "Pirin", significantly easing maintenance.

"Vitosha" tank destroyer

"Vitosha" is a light and fast tank destroyer designed to serve motorised or mechanised forces facing an enemy with a superior tank force. It is partially based on the chassis of "Rila" armoured personnel carriers, but is equipped with thicker armour and has a more powerful engine. The turret holds a 100mm smoothbore anti-tank gun with 30 rounds with a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun with 800 rounds. A secondary, heavy machine gun has 500 rounds and is used for local defence. The "Vitosha" tank destroyer is supplied with an NBC protection system, an infrared illuminator, night vision devices and a digital fire control system.

The vehicle's primary advantage is that it provides the firepower of a tank while requiring much less maintenance. This allows the deployment of bigger, dedicated tank forces on fronts where their multiple functionality would be more necessary, as opposed to diverting them specifically to face enemy heavy armour. "Vitosha" is not suitable for urban warfare where its thin armour is vulnerable. It is most effective in open environments, where its high mobility and precision make it a perfect hit-and-run tank destroyer.

The NPLA employs "Vitosha" tank destroyers in rapid reaction forces and shock troops whose primary role is to stave off a heavy enemy offensives and flank enemy armoured units with speed and mobility. The primary shell in usage is HEAT with a 670 mm RHAe penetration, although APFSDS-T tungsten rounds (see Ammunition section) are also available, with a penetration of 430 mm RHAe.

"Balkan" tank destroyer

"Balkan" is a heavy tank destroyer based on the T-55 chassis. Its 125mm anti-tank gun, armed with 20 HEAT and 8 kinetic rounds can penetrate up to 780 mm of RH equivalent armour under optimal conditions. Like its lighter predecessor, it is supplied with an NBC protection system, an infrared illuminator, night vision devices and a fire control system.

"Balkan" was developed as a solution to utilise large stocks of T-55 tanks internationally; it is the lighter solution to a general overhaul programme for the T-55 tank in NPLA service, the heavier being the distinct "Imeon" battle tank. While there have been few changes introduce to the chassis, a new, heavily armoured turret housing a 125 mm smoothbore gun with a digital fire control system and targeting through thermal, infrared and night vision sensors allows the vehicle to become a deadly tank killer on the battlefield. The HEAT charges have a penetration ability of 1,300 mm of rolled homogeneous armour equivalent (RHAe), while the depleted uranium kinetic rounds have RHAe penetration of 640 mm, enough to defeat most modern armour.

"Balkan" TDs do not have widespread usage in NPLA service. They were a stop-gap solution mostly useful while "Imeon" MBTs were under development. They do, however, remain in usage in Northern Operational Command units and some expeditionary forces deployed overseas where the maintenance-heavy Imeons might not be the best logistical solution.

"Imeon" main battle tank

"Imeon" is a main battle tank featuring heavy upgrades over a standard T-55 medium tank. During the Bulgar Rouge-South American war, the NPLA realised its T-55 and T-72 tanks could not offer much in battle against modern main battle tanks. The Heavy Industry Bureau of the now defunct People's Committee of Domestic Affairs thus decided to proceed with a heavy upgrade package for the T-55 tank, as it was simpler and was already too outdated to be used in future conflicts. Using the channels of the Second Economic Committee, Bulgarian arsenals acquired a variety of modern tank components and systems on the black market, primarily through conflict zones in the Middle East.

The resulting upgrade on the T-55 was essentially a new tank capable of engaging all latest-generation armour. The last set of trials were completed successfully in 2017, after which the NPLA placed an order for six tank brigades - 180 vehicles and six command vehicle.The upgrades include a more powerful 750 hp engine with a hydraulic cooling system, an automatic transmission with 4 forward and 2 reverse speeds, drum-style rubber-padded road wheels, passive thermal sights and a digital fire control computer. Protection upgrades include a composite armour package with tungsten and ceramic sheets and a NBC protection system with included overpressure protection. The "Imeon" uses a 105mm smoothbore gun, acquired from early Rheinmetall specimens intended for early Leopard-2 tanks. The tank is fully capable of fighting during night, in urban environment and intensive unconventional warfare.

Protection
The composite armour consists of steel layers, a ceramic layer and a titanium layer. The armour is not modular, but there is a degree of spaced protection in the frontal hull ark. Limited internal space means that ammunition storage has been reduced from T-55's 37 rounds to 25 rounds; however, the ammunition has armoured lining and blowout panels. Many of the rounds have been repositioned in the enlarged turret, where blowout panels guarantee higher chance of survival in case of a direct penetrating hit.

The tank is equipped with a heat-absorbent coating to reduce the infrared signature. Additionally, the engine is designed to continously operate at a temperature of less than 250 degrees thanks to the extensive use of heat-absorbent materials and alloys with relevant thermal properties.

The NBC protection system includes gas and aerosol filters, and an air filtration system for ionised particles. Overpressure protection and a boron lining absorb shockwave damage and neutron blast irradiation, respectively.

Armament
The "Imeon"'s main gun, a 105-milimetre smoothbore, is unusual for the NPLA. It is virtually unique as no other NPLA or LARU system uses this particular calibre. It is only equipped with 25 rounds, but the amount of protection is significantly improved compared to the standard T-55. The gun is manually loaded and equipped with two types of rounds - a HEAT round with 800 mm RHAe penetration and an APFSDS-DU round with nominal penetration of 490 mm RHAe. A third type of point-detonation HE round is under development designed specifically to attack softer targets, like troops under light cover or inside buildings, ATGM teams, and light vehicles. Loading is manual, but ammunition storage has been significantly optimised and time between rounds fired is thus reduced.

The main gun is directed by a fire control computer; it adjusts the gun, rotates the turret and calculates the shell's trajectory based on its type, the target's speed, and environmental indicators based on inputs from a laser rangefinder and a crosswind sensor. The fire control computer can be integrated into a Rila-type datalink for additional external inputs, for example from battlefield drones.

Additional armament includes a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun with 2100 rounds, and a remote-controlled, top-mounted 12.7 mm machine gun with 500 rounds.

Versions
The "A" version is designed for urban warfare and lacks the automated 12.7 top-mounted machine gun and smoke grenade launchers; instead, it has increased armour protection on the top and carries extra 400 rounds for the coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. The B version is suited for open terrain warfare. It has a remotely controlled HMG, eight smoke grenade launchers (4 on each side) and a longer-ranged sensor package.

Imeon A was heavily employed during the Fatherland War. It proved an extremely difficult target for enemy tank crews do to its small size and mobility, while still being able to take significant hits and remain operational. It does, however, remain somewhat underpowered with a low top speed. It has since been discontinued, and the B version is the only one offered for both export and domestic usage. A small number of A-versions continue to operate with some State Security units.

TRK-1 tactical ballistic missile

TRK-1 (takticheski raketen kompleks) is a short-range ballistic missile system designed to deliver high-precision strikes against unit positions, supplies and command infrastructure in the tactical depth of the enemy's operational area. The system utilises a solid-fueled quasiballistic missile with maneuvering capabilities and the ability to fly a non-parabolic trajectory, making it extremely difficult to intercept. Four kits with six radar decoys deploy in case of an anti-ballistic missile operation, creating a cloud of targets in the enemy radar and concealing the warhead's exact location.

The missile is particularly useful for strikes against troop concentrations. These attacks proved devastating during the Fatherland War, with enemy losses from a single strike often reaching tens of killed and hundreds of wounded, along with heavy material losses. The missile can mount a nuclear warhead as well. However, the warhead programming console is not offered for export.

The missile is carried on an amphibious, NBC-protected armoured vehicle to ensure the mobility and survivability of the system. It is equipped with a tactical geotopographical console to determine all necessary optimal launch parametres, GLONASS-based guidance and targeting system, a radio set, air conditioning and a weapons compartment for crew defence. A launcher carrier one missile and two reloads in a separate vehicle. Reloading takes 8 minutes.

RK-2 intermediate-range ballistic missile

RK-2 (raketen kompleks-2) is an intermediate-range ballistic missile system designed to provide strategic attack capabilities against static enemy targets such as airfields, supply and production bases and troop concentrations. The system consists of an amphibious 8x8 carrier vehicle and a solid-fueled R-1000 missile.

The carrier vehicle is a transporter-erector launcher. It has its own launch terminal, nuclear-biological and chemical protection and amphibious capabilities. It is linked to either a GPS or a GLONASS navigation system to accurately determine target coordinates. The launch terminal has a built-in database with a programmable update interval from 1 minute to 10 hours depending on alertness levels. Updates are carried out through a direct connection between relevant intelligence services and a double-encryption modem, or an indirect connection between the double-encryption modem of the vehicle and a missile command transmitter which receives updates by optic cable.

The R-1000 missile has a range of 1,000 kilometres and carries a single 900-kilogram warhead. The export version comes with a conventional unitary high explosive or fragmentation warhead. The missile can be fitted with a nuclear or a chemical warhead as well. Its solid propellant allows the missile to be fired as soon as it is erected and its target is designated. Guidance is provided by satellite tracking and a gimballed core which provides a smooth navigational capability and increased accuracy.

Intermediate-range ballistic missiles are sometimes considered to be obsolete as cruise missiles can now offer bigger ranges and significantly better accuracy while remaining less susceptible to missile defence. However, the R-1000 is a cheaper long-term solution and, unlike most cruise missiles, can be fitted with missile defence decoys to increase survival chances. The complex also comes with a nuclear warhead programming console, although the versions for export and NPLA usage differ greatly.

No more than 12 launchers and 24 reloads can be sold to a single country. Domestic production rights are currently unavailable.

S-3 "Yavor" intercontinental ballistic missile system

S-3 Yavor (maple) is a downgraded export version of the RK-3 Neptun intercontinental ballistic missile. It is the only commercially available intercontinental ballistic missile system currently sold on the global arms market. Yavor is the ultimate tool of strategic empowerment for nations seeking to break the shackles of global capitalist exploitation.

Vehicle. The transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) is based on the LAZ-5500 vehicle used on the RK-2 intermediate-range ballistic missile system. Like the original, it is a limited amphibious vehicle with full nuclear, biological and chemical protection. The command terminal inside the vehicle is equipped with GLONASS/GPS positioning modules, along with a two-star tracking astro-inertial navigation system to ensure complete precision in pre-launch coordination of the whole system. A hydraulic mechanism erects the missile in firing position. The erection spire keeps the missile attached and immobile through a number of built-in vacuum nodes. Deployment time is 8 minutes.

The vehicle has a crew of seven, consisting of driver, commander, three missile engineers, a missile technician and a vehicle technician. The driver and commander are housed in the main cabin, while the rest of the crew rides inside the command cabin. Along with missile guidance equipment, the vehicle has a small automatic weapons rack for personal defence, tool rack and a first aid kit.

Missile. The solid-fueled R-7000 missile is downgraded in several ways compared to the original 9000 model in NPLA service. Its range has been reduced from 9,000 to 7,000 kilometres. It can only carry a single 2,500-kilogram warhead (compared to the 4,000-kilogram three-warhead MIRV capacity of the original). Finally, its countermeasures bloc is fairly simplified and includes only the most basic types of ECM and radar decoys. The navigation system is astro-intertial with two-star tracking, compared to the one-star tracker of the R-9000 missile.

One aspect that remains the same is the solid fuel. Solid-fueled missiles have greatly reduced deployment times and increased storage life. Unlike liquid fueled missiles, they are also safer to handle and require much less maintenance as the need for fuel tanks adjoining the missile unit is eliminated.

In NPLA service, the R-9000 missile carries the nation's nuclear arsenal. A single missile battalion with three launchers is operational. A major advantage of the R-7000 over the R-9000 is the option to fit it into silos. NPLA doctrine does not involve missile silos, and some key components for this type of deployment are absent in the R-9000 while present in the R-7000.

No more than ten (10) complete systems without reloads will be sold to any requesting party. Background checks will be carried out and the order could be refused without explanation.

"Maranya" EMP surface-to-air missile system

"Maranya" (haze) is a powerful surface-to-air missile system. It was developed by the NPLA Military Engineering Department to counter aerial threats, especially stealth aircraft which are difficult to be locked on by traditional SAM systems.

The "Maranya" SAM system utilises an upgraded V-755 rocket with a vircator warhead emitting a powerful electromagnetic and microwave pulse with a radius of 35-70 metres, disabling or completely destroying the electronic systems of enemy aircraft upon exploding. The two-stage warhead consists of a secondry stage - the 3D vircator itself - and a primary stage which contains a magnesium thermite charge. The latter is ignited on command and its heat energy is converted by a Seebeck generator into electric energy, pumping the vircator and generating a very powerful pulse before the warhead itself melts down from the thermite. The missile does not require a target lock due to its large blast radius. A secondary but important benefit of this characteristic is that enemy aircraft will not receive a missile lock warning and undertake subsequent evasive maneuvers, significantly increasing the chance for an efficient kill.

The lack of auxiliary radars and vehicles also reduces system deployment time and agility. Information on enemy aircraft groups can be obtained through early warning systems located dozens or hundreds of kilometres away, while target acquisition is performed solely through calculating the flight speed, direction and angle of the target group. "Maranya" has been successfully tested against stealth aircraft, disabling their vital electronic systems through a simultaneous electromagnetic, microwave and X-ray pulse. EMP-hardened targets will still receive damage from X-ray emissions, although kill efficiency in this case would be much lower.

ZRS-33 "Gavrosh" CPADS

ZRS-33 "Gavrosh" (Gavroche) is a crew-portable air defence system (CPADS) designed for short-range battlefield engagements against enemy fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.

Gavrosh is an entirely indigenous development of Bulgarian State Arms designed to address a growing need for short-range, low-tech air defence means operated by small organic units that can provide air cover independently of SAM systems operating on brigade level or above. One of the main lessons learned by the NPLA is that available MANPADS models are mobile and comfortable to use by small units, but not necessarily effective. They lacked the range and flight ceiling necessary to shoot down helicopters or strike jets, proving to be of limited value in battles with a dense aerial warfare situation.

Bulgarian State Arms thus developed a system that could be deployed by three-man teams consisting of operator/commander, spotter and system engineer. The complex allows shock troops to gain a moderate point defence capability before the bulk of the military force and its longer-range SAM units advance. This fits perfectly into the organic mass defence doctrine of the NPLA, which has maneuverable point defence units at the lowest level of its hierarchy.

Unlike traditional MANPADS, the system's missile seeker is not infrared-based; the missile has a semi-automatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) portable terminal. It is operated by the team commander and is connected to the launcher via cable. Once the target has been spotted, the operator uses a joystick on the console to keep the target illuminated by a laser beam which the missile seeker pursues. Target search and acquisition is achieved using a focal-plane array with four additional sensors (UV, near, mid and far-infrared) for full-spectrum detection. The missile has a 3-kilogram HMX explosive directed-energy warhead. It uses a low-energy beam to scan the target, preventing missile warning.

A specific feature of the sealed round missile is that it consists of two rounds. The missile itself is a secondary charge; the primary charge is a small first stage firing the missile out of the tube up to a distance of some 50 metres; the missile engine then ignites, beginning the flight. The purpose of this launch method is to throw the missile away from the launcher as far as possible, potentially concealing the launch location. Launch charges are smokeless, although a small backblast area is generated. The entire system can be assembled and disassembled in 3 minutes. Gavrosh-M is a version mounted on a Praga V3S truck with the command terminal built inside the truck cabin.

K1 "Lavina" surface-to-air missile system

K1 "Lavina" (avalanche) is the most advanced surface-to-air missile system in Bulgarian service. Facing increasing difficulties in procuring components for its legacy S-300 family SAMs, the NPLA Military Engineering Department began developing a system of similar or improved performance, code named A6, under State Presidium orders. One of the core development drivers for the A6 project was to eliminate auxiliary vehicles and streamline as many command and control functions as possible. The result was a conceptual SAM complex with a launcher, integrated radar and towed power unit, and a single command, control and communications (C3) station.

The final system, the K1 "Lavina", was rolled out two years after specifications were issued. A complex, or a battery, consists of four self-contained ZRK-100 launchers, each armed with four missiles; a "Vihren" command, control and communications station with radio masts, data processing and command units, and the RL55 I/J-band phased array tracking and interception radar.

Apart from the launchers, the "Vihren" station is the centrepiece of the system. Its L-515 Contact Console was specifically designed to readily integrate the complex with legacy radar systems of both Soviet (P-series) and Western (Patriot) origin, meaning that operator states can easily attach a "Lavina" battery to their existing air defence and early warning infrastructure. "Vihren" is also equipped with a Datalink Terminal integrated with a communications control port that connects it to the launchers through remote-controlled antenna masts, and an Alert Status Computer used to analyze weather conditions from various sources, calculate flight trajectories, perform missile diagnostics, and many others. Overall, the system has unusually high processing power and software applications, increasing risk to EMP events, but also agility and adaptiveness in different operational scenarios.

The RL55 (RadioLokator) is manufactured by Lovech Aircraft Works and allows acquisition of ballistic and non-ballistic targets at distances of up to 250 kilometres. It is an active electronically scanned array (AESA) with 2,900 elements clustered in separately remote-controlled groups, allowing 180-degree visibility. It offers somewhat lower discrimination than the radars of systems in the PAC-3 and S-400 families, but has a faster scan impulse rate. Its superior temporal resolution, coupled with the high processing power of the "Vihren" station, guaratees the RL55 a significantly improved resistance to electronic counter measures due to its ability to quickly track changes within a target and register separate target-related events. It is also equipped with automatic frequency hopping and a passive scan capability; that is, it can simply receive incoming radar signals and estimate the position of enemy aircraft based on Doppler effect readings. This makes the radar immune to radar-seeking air-to-surface missiles normally fired from suppression aircraft. In addition, its distributed signal makes it more difficult to distinguish from background noise, reducing its visibility in active mode. The RL55 is normally placed in close proximity (up to 5 km) of the "Vihren" station.

The launcher is a self-contained unit capable of communicating with, and receiving commands from, the "Vihren" station. Its four missiles have a diagnostics package that tracks subsystem operability of the missile. The missiles are sealed rounds launched by a cold gas ejection system to a height of 25 metres. The active radar homing of the missile allows it to reach a certain altitude and then enter seek and destroy mode, searching for targets using its own radar. Full reload times stand at 20 minutes.

  • "Musala" infantry handheld radio

    "Musala" is a handheld radio station for infantry. Very suitable for platoon or company-level commanders. It is capable clear voice communication, scrambled voice communication, digitised voice transmission and data transmission selective call and GPS tracking. "Musala" handheld radios are enclosed in a robust die-cast aluminium shell capable of resisting dust, sand, water and humidity. It withstands shocks and vibrations, immersion, heat (+60) and cold (-55). Also available as vehicle set.

  • Type 64 multi-purpose transceiver

    The Type 64 is a direction-finding transceiver (DFT) for platoon or company-level paratrooper units. The radio is carried by the commander of the paratrooper unit. Upon landing, the commander turns it on in direct finding mode, transmitting a beeping signal to the radios of fire team commanders in the platoon. Upon establishment of full contact, the platoon is ready to act accordingly.
