Background: Longswords are perhaps one of the more enduring symbols of swordsmanship, used by knights and upper-class city folk for many centuries. From the rough streets of 15th century Verona to Reformation-era Munich, longswords had been weapons of self-defense, combat, and sport alike.

Today, Armatax has made one of the most traditional longsword designs, based on museum exhibits and the writings of renaissance swordsmen, available once again to modern users. Made out of 1060 carbon steel, this sword makes use of the most modern metallurgy, married to traditional 16th century design.

A well-balanced, combat-sharp design, the sword can be used for personal defense or for cutting competition (a blunt version with a rounded and folded tip can alsoe be ordered for martial arts competition). The pommel is a screw-on pommel and is available in a variety of different styles (faceted scenter style is the default, but a mushroom pommel or a wheel pommel can also be ordered).

The sword ships with a scabbard, cleaning kit, and spare pommel.

Background: The curved sica knife has been used by the Illyrian Dacians and Illyrians as the weapon of their resistance against the Romans alongside the Falx. Its claw-ilke shape had allowed it to be swiftly drawn from clothing and used in both vicious slashes and devastating cuts, and the very Latin word for a dagger is estimated to come from Illyan.

Later, during the Judean revolt, the sica once again made its appearance in the hands of the zealots - used so prolifically that the Roman word for a zealot assassin is Sicarius. Yet later, this blade shape became associated with the Ismailite cult from which the very word assassin comes.

Today, Armatax has created a new weapon, using modern 440C steel and a polymer handle in a traditional blade shape. For only $150, the Zealot dagger will be yours, together with a sheath and a cleaning kit.

Background: Since the 17th century, rapiers have been the sidearm of choice of military officers, noblemen, university students and attorneys. They have been weapons of self-defense and tools of war, wielded in revolutions and palace coups, vicious street fights and duels of honor. In some nations, like Reichskamphen, the rapier is even to this day wielded by gallant gentlemen in duels to au premier sang or a l’outrance.

Armatax has entered into cooperation with Rotenstain A.G., a sword manufacturer in Northern Reichskamphen, to produce a high-quality modern rapier for the discerning user – whether collector, duelist, military officer, or simply an individual seeking to possess an elegant, yet lethal means of personal defense.

The sword is produced of 9260 high-carbon steel, and sharpened along both edges almost throughout the entire length of the blade, capable of delivering both thrusting and slicing blows (although its ergonomics favor the latter). (A dull training version, with the tip folded and pinned for safety, is also available for sportsmen).

The sword’s handle is red-brown leather, and the cup hilt is decorated with elegant engraving, making the sword not only a fully functional weapon, but an object d’art for the discerning collector.

The sword ships with a scabbard, cleaning kit, and an instructional DVD in rapier fencing. If the training variant is chosen, we will ship the sword with a single plastic cap that can be worn over the folded tip for additional safety.
