Description: While the usefulness of super-heavy battletanks [generally defined as battle tanks with a weight of 1000 tons and higher] is fairly limited, the Free Kingdom Armed Forces has never entirely given up on their use, and currently maintains 100 SHBTs. The previous SHBT utilized by the Free Kingdom of Allanea was the Arachne assault cannon - essentially a vast, nuclear-powered assault cannon, laid out similarly to the Sturmgeschütz series of assault guns of the Second World War, but made far larger, to the point of carrying 400mm cannon. However, the Arachne lacked a turret, which limited the versatility of the design.
Eventually, Kazansky Heavy Industries - owned by the King of Allanea, and one of the top 50 largest industrial companies in Allanea - decided to create a new war machine to replace the Arachne tanks. It was believed that a tank armed with an actual turret, and equipped with conventional, rather than nuclear engines, would be much more versatile in terms of its tactical use, and would meet with greater approval among the troops in the field. It would also not require complicated recoring of the nuclear reactor in combat, nor would crews require a reactor engineer.
The 400mm cannon were replaced with 330mm ETC guns mounted in an uninhabited naval-style turret, increasing the muzzle velocity of the guns and their effective range, as well as their capacity to penetrate the armor of other supertanks and of enemy fortifications and bunkers - the primary use of superheavy tanks in Allanean doctrine being direct-fire attacks on enemy fortifications and the breaching of Fortified Areas held by the enemy. For a variety of reasons, it was designed to dub the new combat mastodon Asirnoth Mag'ladroth, after the famous military commander of an allied country.
Aside from being an enormous battle tank, the T-3500 Ancalagon has ample creature comforts for the crew - small ‘coffin’-shaped sleeping bunks similar to those seen in a capsule hotel, with small television sets within each bunk, a crew shower and a toilet are installed in the SHBT.
It should be noted that it is extremely unadvisable to commit the T-3500 Ancalagon to unescorted assaults in which it is expected to dominate battlefield with the (considerable) firepower of its main and auxiliary guns. In Allanean doctrine, T-3500 tanks are made to operate with an escort of smaller tanks (i.e. HBTs and MBTs), infantry, and sappers. These will camouflage the tank’s position, breach obstacles, and protect the tank from enemy infantry and tank destroyer ambushes and landmines, as well as cover it from enemy aviation, while the T-3500 does its actual job. The T-3500 is a special-purpose vehicle, not an upsides MBT, and is to be used accordingly.
This tank has been purchased by the Free Kingdom Armed Forces. A select amount have also been purchased for testing by the Kingdom of Nachmere.
