Voss Defence Inc. in conjunction with Rinsor Shipyards Ltd, is pleased to announce the world-wide release of the AV-6, nicknamed the ‘Dragon Tooth’. The state-of-the-art mechanized assault boarding craft is the product of three years of hard work and dedication by numerous engineers and design specialists. The AV-6 will soon be positioned onboard all capable ships within Voss Defence’s Navy for immediate use in conflict zones worldwide, in addition to now being available for purchase.

The AV-6, ‘Dragon Tooth’ assault vessel is a mechanized boarding craft currently utilized by the Tergnitz Imperial Navy and Army, as well as numerous foreign governments and private corporations to facilitate the boarding of a hostile enemy vessels by a platoon-strength marine element.

The vessel weighs 135,000 pounds (61,200 kg) and has a crew of four: a Chief Petty Officer, an engineering Petty Officer Second Class and two firearm-rated Petty Officer Third Classes.

Background:
The original project idea was floated as part of a large raft of military innovations sought by the Tergnitz Imperial Navy as the 20th century drew to a close. The concept of a boarding craft usable in modern combat baffled many seasoned defence contractors, yet the design idea was eventually picked up, along with several other projects, by Rinsor Shipyards Ltd. one of the three largest military contractors in Tergnitz.

Designers started with a simple concept, make a light assault vessel, capable of reaching high speeds very rapidly. They were immediately drawn to their very high power-to-weight ratio, as well as high operating speeds. With this core engine design in hand, designers then moved on to develop a light, yet steady outer hull for the vessel, now dubbed the AV-6, or Assault Vessel VI series. The electronics suite of the craft is designed to allow the vessel to navigate in all weather, day or night in military operations anywhere in the world with little to no special training requirements for an indefinite period. After two years of dedicated work, the core components of the ship’s design had been established, the result was exactly what they wanted, a light vessel, capable of transporting a platoon of Imperial Marines at high speeds.

With the core components of the ship’s design complete, the designers moved onto the harder aspect of the concept, the boarding process. To better grasp the intrinsic difficulties involved with this part of the design, Rinsor Shipyards elected to form a partnership with Voss Defence Inc. as they hoped to utilise the wealth of experience possessed by the numerous ex-marines employed by the private security firm. By using this real world knowledge as a foundation, Rinsor’s designers poured millions of dollars into scientific development and an extensive series of technical trails, the ultimate result of which was something totally unique. The designers cunningly had adapted current technology in a way never envisioned by its original creator.

Three years after accepting the contract, a prototype AV-6 was showcased to both companies Board of Directors, as well as to a number of officials within the Tergnitz Imperial Defence Ministry and Imperial Navy off the coast of Tergnitz. The officials, seated on a Voss Defence destroyer provided for the demonstration, were amazed by what they saw. The prototype AV-6 was lowered into the water by the destroyer’s crane arm, before speeding off towards the target ship (an old Imperial Navy destroyer which had been heading back to port to be decommissioned). The prototype AV-6 made contact with the hull of the ‘enemy’ ship with a clearly audible clang, which echoed across the calm ocean, which was quickly replaced however with a loud hissing sound. The officials diverted their attention to a ring of monitors set up around the viewing platform, which depicted a series of four automatic, exothermic torches mounted on a set of rails inside the front of the prototype AV-6, as they began to begin to rotate rapidly. These torches burst to life in an explosion of flame, slowly sliding along their mounted rail, gradually building speed while all burning a thick line through the enemy hull. After roughly three minutes of cutting, the torches were extinguished and from within the ring, a small ramp descended into the newly created breach, pushing the now cut hull section into the enemy vessel. Finally, a battle-ready platoon of Imperial Marines entered the ‘enemy’ vessel and began to secure the corridor, before advancing further into the ship and out of the range of the pre-positioned cameras.

Overall, with both the Imperial officials and company mangers fully satisfied with the prototype AV-6’s performance, the project was declared a complete success. The designers at Rinsor Shipyards, with the aid of Voss Defence had done the unthinkable, they had been able to create a vessel which was capable of making boarding actions a viable strategy for a 21st century navy.
