Background:

WUAP is a range of wheeled 8X8 vehicles developed to meet a specification by the Royal Nachmerian Army for a universal platform to perform most of AFV roles. The WUAP family is characterized by high mobility, modular protection and versatility.

The following is a description of the common features of all WUAP AFVs. For specific variants look below.

General layout:

All WUAP variants are 8X8, front engine amphibious vehicles. The driver is seated directly behind the engine bay with commander(aside from turreted versions) slightly to his right and back. Both commander and driver have a separate hatch. Depending on the specific variant, the fighting compartment or turret is located to the rear of the vehicle.

Mobility:

Power is provided by a 600hp, 8 cylinder V-shaped after water-cooled engine couple to an 8X8 drive system by a semi-automatic transmission. The vehicle has seven forward and one reverse gears. The pneumatic suspension consists of eight integrated pneumatic spring and damper units, connected to a central system. This allows for setting the ground clearance according to need. The run-flat tires are connected to a central pressure system allowing the driver to set tire pressure separately for each tire, and providing warning if the tire pressure s incorrect for the load and speed of the vehicle.

The WUAP is fully amphibious, propelled in the water by two propellers. Before entering the water, a splash vane must be erected on the front of the vehicle and bilge pumps switched on.

Firepower and Observation:

For firepower see individual variants(below).

The driver has 3 large periscopes giving him a 180 degree field of view, as well as a rotating thermal viewer mounted on his hatch, allowing night time driving. The commander has five periscopes, allowing nearly 270 degrees of view, as well as a rotating day/night IIR system. LCD displays allow both commander and driver a view from a rear-mounted camera, which has a night time light intensifying system. Some variants have other systems.

Protection and Survivability:

The WUAP has a modular passive armor scheme. The basic protection includes the steel hull of the vehicle, augmented by spaced titanium-aluminum alloy. This protects the crew and systems from kinetic threats of up to 14.5mm caliber, as well as shrapnel and small explosive devices.

To allow flexibility, WUAP vehicles are designed to accept bolt on/off additional armor. Bolt on armor types include "Rhinoskin Lite" plates, "Raincoat" plates, and slat armor.

"Rhinoskin Lite" is a composite armor, composed of a titanium matrix encasing tiles of silicon carbide, backed by a plate non-perforated titanium-aluminum alloy. While relatively heavy, "Rhinoskin Lite" protects the crew against kinetic threats of up to 30mm caliber. It also greatly increases the HEAT protection of the WUAP.

"Raincoat" is a rather uncommon type of protection- SLERA(Self Limiting Explosive Armor). Each plate is made of several blocks, constructed of a 20mm thick titanium back plate, a 30mm layer of the “Raincoat” compound, and a 10mm frontal plate. The “Raincoat” compound is made of 55% reduced sensitivity RDX, 25% ATH fire retardant, and 20% PDMS binder. When hit the “Raincoat” compound reacts with a slower rate of burning (compared to HERA), and quickly extinguishes itself. It is more effective than NERA blocks at stopping HEAT rounds but is no more dangerous to personal or equipment.

The crew compartments of the WUAP are protected by a Kevlar Spall Liner.

Active Protection: The "Tz'efa" is equipped with the “Iron Tide” APS. “Iron Tide” is modular soft and hard kill system designed to operate with the BASTION battle management system and take full advantage of the systems of each specific vehicle it is mounted on.

System components:
1)Main Processing Unit: a high speed compact processing unit with a 3 GHz clock rate. The processor uses a stripped down fast version of a common commercial operating system. The other software installed on it is the “Iron Tide” system. This allows the tracking, classification and engagement of threats detected by the system sensors. The software can use the data from the radar to identify threats and choose which threats to engage and which threats not to engage. It also chooses what counter measure to use against a threat. The processing unit is linked to the BASTION system, allowing one “Iron Tide” unit to network with others. This allows the systems to “warn” each other of threats, protect vehicles that have no loaded countermeasures, and use group smoke screening to protect the entire unit.

2)F/G band radar. Consisting of up to 5 flat panel antennas around the AFV (one directed upwards to identify top-attack threats), the radar is used to identify incoming threats and classify them. Threats are identified and classified in a 360 degrees arc around the protected vehicle, and the information is sent to the APS computer.

3)4 IR sensors located on sensor mast. This sensor identifies incoming projectiles by the thermal signature of their propulsion systems or the projectile itself. The IR data is sent to the APS computer where it is compared to the radar data. The use of IR sensors lowers the chance of the APS being defeated by jammers and low cross section projectiles.

4) A 360 degrees laser warning system. This comprises of 4-8 laser/active IR sensors, which identify laser designators and range finders targeting the AFV. The data is used to alert the team and give the system a “heads up” on what type of threats are about to engage it.

5) 2 twin-barreled automatically reloading, fully stabilized, 360 rotating launchers. The launchers fire fin stabilized 80mm projectiles. The projectiles are combustible and create almost no shrapnel. Exploding less than 1 meter from the threat, the projectile causes it to destabilize and either fall apart in the air or go off target. This method is effective against both CE threats and KE threats. 12 projectiles are carried in the auto-reload magazines of the system.

6) In turreted vehicles- the “Iron Tide” system is connected to the turret traverse system and can traverse the turret to fire smoke grenades if needed (requiring only a confirmation from the commander).

7) Jammers- the system includes both a radio frequency jammer and a laser/IR jammer. The R/F jammer is a high output unit which is programmed to work on frequencies used by radio guided munitions. As the missile nears the protected vehicle, the jammer out powers the guidance signal severing the tie between the missile and its launcher .The Laser and Infra Red jammer is similar to the similar to the RF jammer, and works either by directing false guidance data at the incoming threat or by blinding it completely. The jammers are located in the sensor mast of the system.

8 ) Commanders control panel- the entire system is controlled through a LCD panel in the commander’s compartment. This panel allows him to select modes of operation, turn different subsystems on and off, confirm turret rotation and decoy launch etc.

Operation: The fire control radar, located on top of the turret, identifies incoming rockets and missiles. The radar data is transmitted to the processing unit. The processing unit ignores birds, small weapons fire and threats that are not bound for the protected vehicle. When a threat is identified, the possessing unit selects the optimal method of engaging it. The system makes this decision based on the threat itself (guidance type, size, speed, etc.), the vehicles status (amount and type of remaining countermeasures, vehicles motion, etc), and the units status (other vehicles being more vulnerable, infantry being near the vehicle, etc). The system than engages the threat with the chosen countermeasure. The system prefers soft-kill options, but if the threat presists the system automatically uses the hard kill choice.

Fire suppression: "Tz'efa" uses several systems to prevent and suppress fires. The crew and passenger compartments are both equipped with fire detectors and 4 BCF canisters. The canisters are operated either automatically by the detectors or manually by the crew (Commander and Passenger Compartments). 2 more BCF canisters are located in the engine compartment and can be operated from the driver’s controls or from outside the vehicle. The driver and commander have red-light indicators for an engine fire. The diesel fuel for the engine is stored in 4 tanks in the front and back of the vehicle, with cutoff valves allowing the use of each tank separately.

Explosion prevention and protection: The crew and passenger seats are all of the suspended type, keeping them above the floor in case of an explosion underneath the vehicle. In variants that carry heavy munitions they are stored in fire resistant separate polymer casings, with blowout panels.

NBC protection: The "Tz'efa" is equipped with an overpressure system. The system pumps air from outside the vehicle through a system of filters and into to the vehicle, creating an overpressure that keeps contaminated air out if the AFV is fully buttoned. If the AFV cannot be fully buttoned, each crewmember and passenger can use an individual, pressurized mask with a 90% field of vision. The overpressure system is integrated with an air-condition system but will operate even if that system is damaged.

Communications, Navigation, and Interface:

Internal communications: The WUAP has an internal communications system, with headsets integrated to ballistic helmets. The system allows the commander to choose which crew members he hears and can hear him. The system has a separate commander to driver channel, receiving power from the best-protected battery, to ensure the commander can always communicate with the driver. The system also has a wireless ability, which switches on automatically when the helmets are disconnected from the system; this prevents crew members being accidently disconnected and allows for faster dismount drills.

External Communications: Most variants can accept 3 transmitter-receivers and 2 receivers, antenna bases being integral. The antenna bases allow for lowering the antennas forwards and backwards from inside. WUAP is equipped with a AFV/infantry telephone located at the rear of the vehicle and connected to the commander’s internal communications.

Networking for WUAP is provided by the BASTION system (optional). BASTION mostly relies on the existing sensors a platform already has. This includes laser range finders, RADARs, observation systems, fire control components, meteorological sensors, and other sensors. It also uses GPS (either installed with BASTION or existing). Combining information from these sensors allows the system to display and network accurate real-time information not only of friendly forces, but also of hostile forces, terrain conditions and more.

BASTION can rely on several communication mediums. It can use standard military radio networks, military cellular networks, or satellite communications. It can also combine all three. According to the type of medium used, range varies from a few kilometers to thousands of kilometers.

Networking is done by an IP protocol. Each unit sends and receives information to and from all units within reception range and operating on the correct frequencies. This information is than sorted by the system, to prevent flooding the user with un-needed information. Both the sender does this sorting and recipient, meaning the user can choose who will see his sent data and who's sent data he receives.

The information gathered by the BASTION main processor is displayed on one or more LCD displays in the vehicle. The system has four windows used for work before, during, and after operations.

*Battle Planning and orders: Allows for creating, sharing and viewing complete operational plans, with attached maps, orders, and ORBATS. It allows for viewing the battle image over code-maps, satellite images, or 3D terrain visualizations. The user can also calculate point-to-point distances, lines-of-sight, and radio reception areas.

*Battle Management: This is the main window, which is used during operations. It allows for viewing the battle image over code-maps, satellite images, or 3D terrain visualizations. The user can see the location of friendly forces and known hostile forces. The user can also update known enemy forces. This is done by taking a range reading to the enemy, and then adding further information manually (or using the “Evil Eye” identification system). Artillery can be laid using a special artillery tab, which sends the artillery request to a predefined user. The user can also calculate point-to-point distances, and lines-of-sight. Information added here by the user is automatically shared with other units.

*Information Sharing: This window is used to send specific data that is not automatically sent by the system. This includes text massages, images and videos, and logistic reports. Videos and still images are captured by the AFVs existing systems. Text massaging allows free texting as well as predefined default massages. This system allows upper echelons to view the battle from the perspective of a specific AFV, and also reduces the use of radio by lower tactical levels.

*Internal Status: The window is used for updating the status of the specific unit carrying the BASTION. It allows updating ammunition and fuel shortages, mechanical problems, casualties, etc.

Amenities: WUAP variants all carry 100 liters of water in NBC protected tanks, with cold/hot water ability. An air-conditioning system is installed as standard. The WUAP is capable of carrying four days worth of combat rations for it's crew and passengers.

The WUAP-ATGM "Assassin" is a ATGM carrier based on the WUAP platform. It is intended for specialized anti-tank units attached to infantry forces operating the WUAP-IFV and WUAP-APC. The ATGM variant differs from the APC variant in that the troop carrying capacity has been completely negated, to allow the carry of the "Assassin 2 ER" anti-tank system(description below). The crew of the WUAP-ATGM consists of 4- a commander and driver located in their usual positions, and 2 weapons operators seat behind the commander.

In general the “Assassin” system has 6 sub systems:

1)A retractable, 2 rail launching system housed in the center of the vehicle, and deployed before firing. Inside the vehicle is a loading system holding 16 more tubes, in two 8 tube carousels. After the two missiles are fired from the tubes on the launcher, the tubes are jettisoned. The launcher arm than lowers in to the hull and two new tubes are loaded. The rate of fire is up to 12 missiles per minute.

2) A day and night optical sight, located at the front of the vehicle. The system combines an electro-optic sight with a Thermal Imaging System for night operations.

3) Wave millimeter RADAR located near the optical sight. It has a theoretical range of 10,000 meters and allows accurate identification of targets at 8000 meters.

4) A fire control system. This system collects data from the sight and the RADAR, displays it on the controls of both the weapons operators, and processes the commands from the controls to send them to the missile over fiber optic or radio transmitter.

5) Radio transmitter with a range of 10,000 meters used to guide the missile in radio control mode.

6) The Assassin 2 ER missile.

Operation:

The “Assassin” has 5 modes of operation. The modes are: Fire and Forget, Fire and Observe/Update with RADAR, Fire and Observe/Update with IIR , Simultaneous Launch, TMOT.

Fire and Forget- The missile is aimed by the thermal imaging system prior to launch. The fire control system transmits target data to the missile through a physical connection on the launcher. The missile is launched and the IIR seeker identifies the target. The missile than guides itself to the target and attacks it in a top-attack path. This is the standard launch mode.

Fire and Observe/Update with RADAR- The missile is aimed by the RADAR. Unique to this application of the Assassin 2 ER, the missile can be automatically directed by use of the RADAR. This is achieved by an interface between the RADAR and the usual Assassin controls. The purpose of this mode is engaging targets using thermal camouflage and counter measures.

Fire and Observe/Update with IIR- This is the normal Assassin FO/U mode in which the operator uses the missiles imagery received by optic fiber or RF to direct the missile.

Simultaneous Launch- A mode meant to allow firing two missiles simultaneously. One weapons operator uses the Fire and Observe/Update mode while the other uses the Fire and Forget mode. Each aims at a different target. This allows firing both missiles at the exact time. This mode is very useful in ambushing armor, as it allows destroying many tanks in the first moment of engagement.

TMOT- Two Missiles One Target. This mode is used against targets with very advanced countermeasures and active protection systems as well as attack helicopters. In this mode both guidance systems are used to attack a single target.

The WUAP-ESV is meant to carry squads of engineers into combat, clear mined areas and haul supplies needed for engineering operations. It is nearly identical to the APC variant, but carries several combat engineering systems. It also come standard with a 12.7mm machinegun in a remotely operated weapons station.

The first engineering system carried by the ESV is a modular surface mine plow. The plow is fitted to the front of the vehicle, and can be modified to different shapes(V shaped for a single vehicle clearing a lane or diagonal shaped for using two vehicles in clearing a wider lane together). The plow is modular and allows installing further plates to make it taller or thicker for extra blast protection. Using hydraulic controls from within the commander's position, it can be raised, lowered and swiveled.

Mounted on the plow itself is another system, the magnetic signature duplicator. Using four emitter coils the system generates a magnetic signature sufficient to activate most magnetic triggered mines and IEDs, causing them to explode near the plow, and so away from the vehicle itself.

The third system installed on the ESV is a lane and obstacle marker system. This system is mounted on the rear hull, and meant allows the vehicle commander to mark lanes from within the ESV. The system includes two pneumatic marking pole dispensers that fire poles into the ground. Various types of markers are available including reflective, fluorescent and LED enhanced in various colors. Thanks to this system the ESV can mark lanes on the move for following forces without the need for the mounted engineers to dismount and do the work on foot(exposed and slow).

The ESV has a towing shackle as standard mounted on the rear and allowing it to tow various systems. As standard Schwerpunkt delivers the vehicles with a towed mine clearing line charge system comprising of a rocket launched charge capable of clearing a path some 100 meters long and 6-8 meters wide. The launcher is armored, with the rocket being raised to firing position and fired from within the vehicle. Many other systems can be towed in place of the MicLic, and in Nachmerian service it is sometimes replaced with logistic trailers, short range thermo-baric MLRS and other systems.

To The Free Kingdom of Allanea - Ministry of War

Dear and Respected Sir/Madam,

Schwerpunkt AFV Division is very pleased with you'r large order of vehicles. Luckily due to the large scale production facilities required for RNA needs, we can meet your request with ease. The order is therefor approved.

As to the issue of DPRs, we apologize for not listing the price ranges for them before. They are now mentioned. For the total range of AFVs, including several variants which are yet to be released for export(Namely MLRS, ATGM and Long Range ATGM), the cost would be 8 billion USD, which in fact constitutes somewhat of a discount.

Please let us know if this is acceptable,
Pleased to be able to equip you,
Schwerpunkt- AFV Division.

Kia Ora! The nation of Yohannes maintains diplomatic relationship with numerous sovereign polities around the world, underpinning our position as one the many leading foreign investors by cumulative NationStates or Universal Standard Dollars value. The Foreign & Investment Office has recently expanded our network of commerce and investment activities yet again, including as our new friends select nations in certain overseas regions. To further maintain the strength of our strategic reserve capacity, I have been authorised to write this letter to your GE&T index listed institution.

In my position as the representative of HM Parliament's 2014 Military Procurement Committee, the Department of Military Acquisition is hereby putting forward the following order:
