If greatness in a combat aeroplane equates with outstanding service longevity and extreme operational flexibility the Hunter is indeed truly great and one of the classic fighter designs of all time. It is aesthetically beautiful and a thoroughbred aircraft in every sense. This was almost to be expected, given that it's design was penned by Sir Sydney Camm who's other major masterpieces included the Hurricane and the Harrier. Originally designed as an air superiority fighter in the 1950's, the Hunter went on to become the most successful post-war British Military aircraft with almost 2000 being produced. Of these, about one third were later rebuilt by the manufacturer to zero time standard, the last leaving the Dunsfold factory in 1976. Aided by its high power to weight ratio, inherent strength and adaptability, the design evolved from the pure fighter in to a superlative ground attack aircraft, the pinnacle of the design being the Swiss MK58 Hunters. This version was continuously updated to accommodate the latest weapons systems prior to being prematurely retired in the mid 1990's as a direct result of the end of the Cold War. The Hawker Hunter is a transonic single seat fighter / ground attack monoplane, with swept-back wings, variable incidence tail plane, powered flying controls and cabin pressurisation. It is powered by a fifteen stage axial flow Rolls-Royce Avon MK 207 turbine engine developing 10,150 lbs thrust.

The fuselage is of monocoque construction and manufactured in three main sections. The swept-back wings are two spar stressed skin structures covered with heavy gauge skin thereby ensuring a perfectly smooth finish and providing for the necessary stiffness of the internal structure. The tail is a multi spar swept back structure built in one piece.

Wildcat Aviation's fleet consists of former RMAF MK.58 aircraft, and, whilst being an "old" platform, have a performance capability in excess of many more modern ground attack aircraft. Furthermore, they are equipped with Radar Warning Receivers (RWR), Chaff and Flare dispensers and are capable of carrying the latest ACMI and Electronic Warfare (EW) pods. Usually configured with up to four external fuel tanks and / or EW pods, these fuel loads permit between one and two-and-a-half hours on-station flying time. Maintained with the usual Swiss precision, the aircraft have very low flying hours, the fleet leader having reached approx only half its projected life.

The Hunter is an aircraft admired by both its pilots and the spectator alike, combining a robust, timeless and graceful design with flawless handling and superlative performance.

VARIANTS
Hunter Trainer: The Hunter Trainer evolved from the single seat version and is broadly identical other than featuring an extended nose and wider cockpit to accommodate the side-by-side twin seat seating arrangement. Three twin seat trainers augment Wildcat Aviations fleet of single seat variants and can undertake all taskings flown by the single seaters whilst also undertaking aircrew training. The right hand seat on these aircraft can be used as a flight test observer station with bespoke trials specific instrumentation being installed to monitor and provide control inputs to various T&E stores that can be carried either externally on the aircraft hardpoints or internally in the nose compartment or radio bay.

Trials Platform Aircraft (TPA): "The Seeker Head Trials Platform aircraft" is a specially modified Hunter Trainer designed to accommodate a seeker head in the nose with an instrumented Flight Test Observers station in the right hand seat. Various types of seeker head can be fitted with only minor modification, the mounting assembly being role fit with LRU's and computers required to run the seeker being mounted on various assembly trays in the forward compartment bay. Current AC capacity from the installed solid state inverter is 1500VA at 115Vac whilst DC capacity is available at 28V (no real limitation). Cooling and other power requirements can be accommodated. The aircraft features a precision glass cockpit navigation system and operates on the Morridane Military Register.

The Buccaneer, built by Blackburn (BAe) at Brough, epitomises the fast, low-level ground attack concept with its inherently stable ride famously being likened to that of a "Ball bearing on glass". Having enjoyed a successful, albeit relatively uneventful, career with the Royal Navy, the Buccaneer realised its true potential with the RAF and S African Air Force where it soon proved itself to be an immensely strong, manoeuvrable and reliable aircraft with a better speed, range and weapons carrying capability than many others. This was borne out during the many NATO exercises but came to public attention during Operation Granby, Gulf War One. Here 12 Buccaneers were despatched at 3 days notice, initially to laser designate targets for Tornado Bombers. Later in the campaign, they acted as both Tornado designators and bombers in their own right whilst carrying out missions dropping their own 1000 lbs LGB's. In total the type flew 216 Gulf sorties, destroying numerous bridges, aircraft shelters, runways, command bunkers, ammunition stores and even other aircraft. The Buccaneer was prematurely withdrawn from service in 1994 as a result of arms reduction talks and the subsequent rationalisation of RAF assets, it being replaced in the maritime strike role by the arguably less capable but more modern and surplus Tornado aircraft.

The Buccaneer was designed in the late 1950's as a low-level, long range, high speed, strike / attack / recce aircraft for carrier and land operations. It was produced in two main variants, the S1 and the much improved and more powerful S2, the latter serving with both the RN and RAF from 1965 to 1994.

The type is powered by two RolIs-Royce Spey Mk101 axial flow bypass turbojet engines mounted in the wing roots. It normally has two crew positions, pilot and navigator / observer, but can be safely operated by the pilot alone. The crew is seated in tandem in a cabin which is pressurised for high altitude flight.

A large bomb bay is located in the centre fuselage with a rotating door. This also serves as a fuel tank. This bay, in addition to 4 underwing hard points can carry a variety of stores and fuel tanks. The landing gear is hydraulically operated and comprises two main units, which retract inwards, and a steerable nose wheel unit which retracts rearwards. Hydraulically operated disc brakes with anti skid control are fitted to the main wheels. A hydraulically operated arrester hook (and tail skid) are fitted which can engage any of the standard cables at military airfields.

The fuselage was designed on the “area rule principal” where abrupt changes in the cross-sectional area of the aircraft were avoided to improve high-speed handling. Area ruling means that the fuselage shrinks where the cross-section includes the wings, and then expands again after the wings, giving the fuselage a "coke bottle" appearance. The tail unit is a large fin surmounted by an all-moving tailplane. To facilitate storage in the confined space of an aircraft carrier, the mainplanes incorporate a hydraulic wing-fold mechanism; the nose can be folded back parallel to the fuselage and the tail-mounted airbrakes can open to 90 degrees.

Wildcat Aviation operate Buccaneers to accommodate extremely long range taskings, typically taking full advantage of the Buccaneers' ability to do air-to-air refuelling.

The English Electric Canberra is a British first-generation jet-powered light bomber manufactured in large numbers through the 1950s. The Canberra could fly at a higher altitude than any other bomber through the 1950s and set a world altitude record of 70,310 ft (21,430 m) in 1957. Due to its ability to evade the early jet interceptors, and its significant performance advancement over contemporary piston-engined bombers, the Canberra was a popular export product and served with many nations.

In addition to being a tactical nuclear strike aircraft, the Canberra proved to be highly adaptable, serving in varied roles such as tactical bombing and photographic and electronic reconnaissance. Canberras served in the Suez Crisis, the Vietnam War, the Falklands War, the Indo-Pakistani Wars, and numerous African conflicts. In several wars, both of the opposing forces had Canberras in their air forces. The Martin B-57 variant have performed meteorological work for NASA, as well as providing electronic communication (Battlefield Airborne Communications Node or BACN) testing.

Wildcat Aviation has three variants of the Canberra; bomber, reconnaissance and an electronic warfare training variant used to train surface-based radar and missile operators and airborne fighter and Airborne Early Warning crews in handling jamming (including chaff dropping) aircraft.

The Short Belfast is a heavy lift turboprop freighter that was built by British manufacturer Short Brothers at Belfast and was the largest aircraft that the British military had ever operated up to that time. The Belfast was notable for being only the second aircraft type to be built equipped with autoland blind landing equipment.

Wildcat Aviation uses the Belfast to cover its own logistical needs, the plane's maximum takeoff weight is greater than the Lockheed C-130 Hercules and can fit two Hawker Hunter airframes. The Belfast can also provide short-term heavy-lift capability since it can carry 150 troops (250 with a removable upper floor) with full equipment or a typical main battle tank.

SERVICES

The ethos behind Wildcat Aviation's service provision are the benchmarks of Performance, Flexibility, Availability and Cost Effectiveness.

Wildcat Aviation Provides bespoke aerial solutions to governments and defence contractors in the form of platform and service provision for both Trials Support and Threat Simulation Activities as well as undertaking Low-Intensity Combat Air Support.

The Trials Support Division provides cost effective fast jet aerial platforms for Test & Evaluation support. Roles typically include chase aircraft, radar testing & calibration and weapons systems testing. Wildcat Aviation maintains a strictly confidential policy to put client's minds at ease.

The Threat Simulation Division provides aircraft for either Red Air / Dissimilar Air Combat Purposes or for Maritime Support Taskings where the aircraft re used to simulate a missile or aircraft attacking a ship. Wildcat Aviation aircraft also undertake Forward Air Controller training with army units. In all instances aircraft can be equipped with various Electronic Warfare pods. Being military registered and crewed by ex-military aircrew, Wildcat Aviation can integrate seamlessly with military exercises and manoeuvres whilst liberating front line assets form secondary training taskings which consume extensive flights hours, fatigue and spares.

The Low-Intensity Combat Air Support Division is a relatively new branch of Wildcat Aviation, it allows Wildcat Aviation to act as a Private Military Contractor providing squadrons to be used in Counter-Insurgency or COIN operations. Due to the nature of international politics we must restrict this particular service to non-slaver nations and conduct our own independent Operational Evaluation before committing to a contract.
