Our history begins in 1955 in Bernville, Globus. Bernville is a small farm town near Scotsdale, Redford in Globus. Russell M. Olson opened a small market named Olson Foods. Russell Olson wanted to give the people a place to shop where they could get low prices and great customer service. He strived to make a difference in people’s lives with great leadership and generous partners who focused on helping the customers and the community.Olson managed to provide the lowest prices for food in the country.

Image
In 1972 Olson opened its first supermarket in Scotsdale, with a bakery, fish market, meat market and deli all under one roof. It was a large store for a food market, and astounded customers. It was something unheard of, but everyone loved it and news of its greatness quickly spread across the country. Olson Foods was quickly gaining wealth of which was used to open new stores, lower prices, and aid the community.

By 1990 Olson Foods had spread across west Globus, having 120 stores in six provinces and was renamed to Olson Supermarkets. At this time, Olson announced it would start producing more of its own goods rather than relying on national and international products, as these had higher prices. Olson launched a line of Olson-Brand products which had amazingly low prices and fantastic quality. Additionally, Russell M. Olson retired at the age of 83, after 35 long years of service. The position of CEO was passed down to his eldest son, Harold R. Olson.

Image
By 2005, we had over 400 stores nationwide, employing more than 90,000 partners. Also around this time, Olson decided to get more involved in the community and give more back. To raise money for charity, we now donate 5% of all transactions to charity. In 2008, we started raising money for efforts against hunger and launched the foundation "Hunger Ends Now", aimed at funding organizations who fight hunger by feeding the the hungry. Olson partners are taught the value of community service, and we are proud to say that they have been involved in thousands of projects in the past decade, ranging from volunteering at a food bank, giving books to children, and rebuilding homes after a disaster.

Throughout our history, we have been able to provide the lowest prices ever heard of and provide excellent customer service to our valued customers. Today we are looking to expand our company internationally to provide low prices, great customer service, community service to the world, as well as to provide fantastic job opportunities to more people.

At Olson, our employees are known as partners. Working here is more than just a job, it’s an experience. A place of great opportunities, a place of friendly people, outgoing leaders and best friends. Our success is dependent on the happiness and pride of our partners. We strive to create a work environment where motivated partners can excel to their highest potential. Olson partners are given an excellent opportunity to start their careers. We encourage and aid in training partners to better their leadership skills. 90% of our management and leadership partners started out as hourly cashiers. Our partners means a lot to us. Without them, Olson Supermarkets would not be the best place to shop.

In addition to opportunity, there are many benefits to be had. All of our full-time partners are offered health care, a retirement plan, tuition, and generous bonuses. Olson partners are the heart and soul of our company; they make the difference to us and the community. Whether a part-time job or a career, working at Olson provides a life-changing opportunity.

Environmental sustainability has become a major value of our company. As a large and growing company, we strive to ensure a cleaner world for generations to come. There are many innovations and tactics that we use to ensure we leave behind the smallest carbon footprint possible.

  • Image
Solar panels are installed on all of our stores, providing a large portion of energy for the store. We are currently researching the possibility of solar panel fitted parking lots.
  • All of our stores are fitted with LED lighting. LED lights use 70% less energy than traditional lighting.
  • To use less lighting during the day, windows are installed in the ceiling to allow the store to be naturally lite.
  • All stormwater runoff from our rooftops and parking lots is filtered through layers of sand before being put back into the water table.
  • The floors in our newest stores are made from 100% recycled material.
  • Our truck fleet uses some of the most fuel efficient trucks ever manufactured.
  • We recycle cardboard, plastic bags, aluminum, etc.
  • Olson-Brand products are environmentally friendly. They are slimmer so that they use less material, and they are all either packaged in recyclable or biodegradable packaging.
  • Our plastic bags are made from 90% recycled plastic.
  • We push to sell reusable bags to our customers, so to limit the number of plastic bag usage.
  • We support sustainable agriculture.

Olson was founded on the basis to help people. Usually when companies grow large, they allow greed to take control of the company and as a result lose their community values. That is not the case with Olson. As we have grown larger, so has our heart. Since 2005, we have raised over $9 billion dollars for charity. That's just the beginning. We are giving back by feeding the hungry, building environmentally friendly stores, providing great career opportunities, and giving students money for college. Our community values grow stronger each day. In every community, we strive to make the world around us better.
Image

In 2008, Olson launched the foundation "Hunger Ends Now". The foundation aims at feeding those around the world who lack access sufficient nutrients. The foundation resources food and provides needed nutrients to people who don't get a meal everyday. We have donated money, food, mobile kitchens and trucks to organizations against hunger.

Since 2008, we have:
  • Donated over 1.2 billion pounds of food to organizations fighting hunger.
  • Donated $3.2 billion and over 5,000 refrigerated trucks to organizations fighting hunger.
  • Donated to food charities in 22 countries.
  • Provided over 5.2 million kids with school lunches.
  • Built over 1,100 food kitchens internationally.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara (English: Wellington) is the capital city and one of the four constituent states of Yohannes. With nearly a quarter of Yohannes' total population residing within its greater metropolitan area, Te Whanganui-a-Tara is the most populous city, urban area, and state of the Kingdom.

Located in the northern coast of the nation, facing the continent of Alisna to the north, the capital city is naturally also the economic centre of Yohannes. The city-state is home to two of the Kingdom's most internationally well-known businesses: the Bank of Yohannes and Royal Beaufort Shipwrights Guild, ensuring the city's position as a multiregional financial & banking as well as thriving shipbuilding and engineering centre. It is also home to multiple branches of some of the most well-known GE&T index-listed foreign multinational companies operating throughout the Kingdom, such as CuppaCoffee and VLT.

As the governing body of the city and state, hereby our Chamber of Commerce - in full representation of the amalgamated Te Whanganui-a-Tara City & Regional [Supercity] Council and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Chamber of Commerce - would like to invite Olson Supermarkets to expand - open its branches or perhaps foreign offices and distribution centres, etc. - in the capital city of the Kingdom.

Greetings to the members of His Majesty's Foreign Investment Council. My name is Michael Thompson, the President of Olson International. I have received your application and after review, I cheerfully accept it. We have decided to open 70 stores in your capital city, which is roughly one store for every 100,000 people. Additionally, we will employ 15,300 people locally. The first 10 stores will open in six months, with 5 stores opening each month thereafter. All stores will be completed in 12 months.
