The Beginning

Rarungan civil airline service was begins in 1940's with service taking care by PT. Rarungan Heli, a small private company that used helicopter. Back at the time, air transportation was not very famous rather than sea and/or land transport. It was not until next decade that air transport was being seen by the peoples of Rarungan. In early 1950's, Rarungan Department of Transportation then decided to established a government owned company that cater this service. Rarungan Nusantara Airways was inaugurated at March 23rd, 1956. A charter flights was then introduce using small airplane that connect airports in Rarungan main islands. It was not until late 1960's that scheduled flights were available in Rarungan's airports.

Growth

After air service was overlooked by Rarungan's peoples, scheduled flights was introduce in most of Rarungan airports notably in main islands. Raru Air then added a number of plane to cater this service. The company welcomed 8 Convair 240s and 8 Convair 340s to its fleet. Domestic service was still a primary for the company because most of Rarungan's peoples were still afraid to travel via air rather than via sea.
In 1970's, Raru Air added a charter flight schedule into Rarungan Overseas Territories. Another 8 Convair 440s were added into the company fleets. In 1984, A complete scheduled flight were available from Rarungan main islands into its overseas territories. And in 1986, Raru Air also acquired PT. Rarungan Heli after the company fell bankrupt. It was then revitalized and become one of the company subsidiary.

Changes

Raru Air plan to enter regional air service was streak down after 2 severe accidents that faced by the company in early 1990's. These accidents not just affected Raru Air but also the air transportation in a whole. Many Rarungan's citizens questioning about the safety of Rarungan air transportation service. To answer the citizens concern, Rarungan Department of Transportation issued a Transportation Safety Law to regulated not just air transportation service but the whole safety issue in Rarungan transportation industry. Department of Transportation also released the ownership of Raru Air which was then transfer to Dirgantara Group. In 1993, Raru Air become public company by joined Mertasari Stock Exchange.
In 1997, Cargo Division of Raru Air was split to become a subsidiary company under the name Rarungan Cargo Airways or publicly known as Raru Cargo Air. While Dirgantara Group decided to split Rarungan Heli from Raru Air and re-establish helicopter service in Rarungan. Rarungan Heli then begun its service from 1999 onwards.

Present

Raru Air continues to improved its performance during 2000's. It was renewed its fleets by adding 12 ATR 72-600 and 10 DHC-8 Series 200 to cater short haul flights. In 2005, Raru Air added 6 Bormbardier CRJ900 into its fleets and also introduce business class for its cabin service. Another fleets were added later to cater medium haul flights until the financial crisis struck Rarungan in 2010.
In 2012, Raru Air begins to compete in low-cost airline service by introduce its subsidiary, Padma Air. It currently focusing on domestic flights service. While Raru Air decided to expand abroad and taking the regional and/or continental flights service that was on halt during the hard times of the company. Today the company is ready to bridge Rarungan into regional and/or international cities.

IDENTITY

Branding and Livery

Since its establishment, Raru Air has change its branding and livery a few times. During earlier years, Raru Air introduced a red and yellow color scheme with white stripes in accordance to Rarungan national flag. In 1970's, Raru Air used a globe string logo for its livery. In 1989, a logotype of white color with blue diamond on the background was introduced. To celebrated its 50th anniversary, Raru Air then change its livery in 2006. Using a white and blue logotype accompanied by stylized "batik" symbol which is similar to Rarungan famous traditional textile.

Head Office

Rarungan Nusantara Airways has its head office at Putra Perdana Jayapadmi International Airport in Mangening Regency near Senadwipa-Mertasari Metropolitan Area near Tejapura. The head office is the Management Building of Rarungan Nusantara Airways which taking around 15,000 squared-meter plot land. As of 2010, the head office houses the Raru Air management and about 1,000 employees in various units.

In addition to its head office, Raru Air also have several branch offices. It currently has 2 branches office. One is located at Dirgantara Tower in Margopuro, Tanjung Kidul Province, Rarungan and the other is at Nusantara Building in Karangpura, Territory of Segaranusa, Rarungan. Dirgantara Tower is opened in 1999 while Nusantara Building is opened in 2010. Both branch offices are ready to ease the operational of Rarungan Nusantara Airways in Rarungan overseas location.

Privatization

Raru Air has change from private company owned by Rarungan government under Department of Transportation into public company under the supervision of Dirgantara Group. And in 1993, Raru Air joined Mertasari Stock Exchange and actively traded its shares in the stock market ever since. While Raru Air still hold majority for its subsidiary companies like Raru Cargo Air and Padma Air.

FLEETS

With the previous focused on domestic flights, most of Raru Air aircraft are to provide this service. To cater international and regional route, Raru Air already bought a number of aircraft and a possibility to added more in the future if the market is rising. All of Raru Air's aircraft are maintain by Dirgantara Aircraft System, a part of Dirgantara Group.

SERVICES

Cabin

Raru Air is a full service airline featuring economy, business and first classes. The economy class could be find in all aircraft. Business Class also available in most aircraft except for ATR 72-600 and DHC-8. The First Class is introduce in 2014 when the company added Boeing 747-400 into the service.

Economy Class
Raru Air Economy Class is available in all aircraft, featuring a seat pitch of 30" - 35", depending on the aircraft with a seat width of 17". For medium and long flights, the class is featured by 9-inch personal AVOD in-flight entertainment system on each seats.

Business Class
Raru Air Business Class is available in most aircraft except ATR 72-600 and DHC-8. The class featuring a seat pitch of 41"-48" depending on the aircraft with seat width of 19".
The Business Class on board of Bombardier CRJ900 is featured with 11-inch personal AVOD in-flight entertainment system, USB ports, in seat laptop power supply and personal read light with 2-2 configuration.
On board of A320-200 series aircraft, The Business Class is equipped with flat bed seats that feature a 6-degree incline. The seats equipped with personal AVOD in-flight entertainment system, USB ports, in seat laptop power supply and personal reading light.
Raru Air's 737-200 aircraft featured with 15-inch personal touch screen & handset activated AVOD in-flight entertainment system, flat-bed seat, portable media player, USB ports, in seat laptop power supply and personal reading light.
Raru Air newest 747-400 aircraft featured flat-bed seats, 15-inch personal AVOD in-flight entertainment system, portable media player, USB ports, in seat laptop power supply and personal reading light.

First Class
Raru Air First Class service is only available in the newest 747-400 aircraft series, featuring 8 seats in 1-2-1 configuration. It has a 82" seat pitch and 22" width. The First Class is equipped with 24-inches AVOD in-flight entertainment system and seats that converts into bed. A chef on-board will enhance the dining experience. First Class passenger also could use in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity at no cost.

In-Flight Service

In-Flight Entertainment System
Audio Video On Demand (AVOD) is featured in all class, ranging from 9-inches LCD touch screen in Economy Class in all aircraft except ATR 72-600 and DHC-8, while Business Class featured 9-inches, 11-inches and 15-inches LCD touch screen in all aircraft. Raru's Boeing 747-400 aircraft are equipped with cabin screens that shows Airshow, a moving map system to allow passenger to track their flight progress as well as featured films and short movies. Passengers in Business Class can order portable media players (AVOD system) from flights attendants. Newspaper and magazines are provided to all passengers on board all flights.

Meal Service
In Economy Class, Raru Air flights attendants will serves welcome drinks before takeoff. After takeoff, flights attendants will serves meal such as snack box for short haul domestic flights or full hot meal for flights longer than 1-hour and all international flights along with a selection of drinks. In Business Class, a range of hot and cold beverages are available along with snacks and/or meals depending on the flights length. Wine and beers will also be offered in international flights. Raru Air introduce a signature dining experience with a variety of local cuisine as part of Raru Air experience. This signature cuisines includes, choices of Turmeric Rice (cooked rice with coconut milk and turmeric) or regular steamed rice accompanied with choices of dishes such as chicken satay, serombotan (traditional mixed vegetables with coconut shred) or 'jukut cantok' (steamed beans and bean sprouts with peanut sauce), red snapper in yellow pickled sauce, fried shrimp with tomato sauce, potato perkedel (frikadeller) along with kerupuk (prawn cracker) or rempeyek (peanuts cracker). For an enhance dining experience, a special chef on-board is available in Raru Air First Class with selection of fine dining cuisine, a combination of traditional Rarungan dishes or international dishes that can be selected by the passengers.

Ticketing

24-hours call center is available for local customer access where payment can be made by credit cards, internet/mobile banking or via ATM transfer. Online booking also available for international customer with credit cards payment. Other ways to booking flights could be done through local travel agents or via ticket booth in airports that are served by Raru Air.

Frequent-Flyer Program

Launched in 2000, Raru Air Frequent-Flyer Program or known as RaruMiles, allows members to earn miles from domestic and international flights with 4-tier of memberships, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. For inactivity reason, RaruMiles will be expired after 24-months of member inactivity. To activate the program back, it simply by doing re-apply in Raru Air counter. Raru Air also apply "rollover" for the RaruMiles members. Flyers who achieve an elite tier in a program year could roll over their extra miles in the next year. For example, a passengers who achieved 80,000 RQMs (Rarungan Qualification Miles) in 2012 will earn Gold Status for reaching 75,000 RQMs and will begin in 2013 with 5,000 RQMs rolled over from the previous year.

Raru Air offers 4-tier for elite status of RaruMiles program. These can be achieved by flying a certain number of Rarungan Qualification Miles (RQM) between 1 January to 31 December each year.

Executive Lounge

The Raru Executive Lounge is open to passengers traveling in Business and First Class, as well as those holding a Gold and Platinum RaruMiles cards. Lounge are located in Putra Perdana Jayapadmi International Airport and other international airports in Rarungan. The lounge are offering drinks and foods, wireless internet, shower rooms, meeting room and business service, and praying room.

POLICIES

Baggage Allowance
Raru Air is includes the price of checking in baggage into the ticket price both for domestic and international flights. Additional price will be charge for extra baggage that exceed our baggage allowance policy. Carry-on bag can be brought into the cabin and is free of charge.

Restricted Items

There are some items that will be treated special in order to get into Raru Air flights while some others will be completely banned or disallowed. For list of items that have special treatment or banned, please follow bellow information;

Firearms	Firearms must through the identification process before boarding. Only registered firearms is allowed to enter flight and must be place in your check-in baggage. Ammunition have to be packed in special compartment and place in your check-in baggage
Flammable Items	Items that easily to burnt like paint, gas torches, fuel, etc are banned from the flights
Mobility Devices	It is advice to turn off your mobility devices during flights.
Tools and Sharp Objects	Items like scissors, wrench, pliers, hammer, etc have to be place in a special compartment and only be brought in your check-in baggage

Underage Passenger

Children under the age of 11 will be charge half of original ticket price. They will need to be accompanied with legal parents and/or guardian. Unaccompanied children traveler will be provided special assistance from our flights attendants. Infant under the age of 5 will be free of ticket. Special assistance will be provided by our flights attendants to give comfort for the infants and its family.

Travel with Pets

Our agents in the airport have to be informed if you brought your pets in your flights. The pet house will be includes in your baggage allowance. One small pet house is allowed to enter the cabin while large pet house have to be include in your check-in baggage with additional price because of its special treatment.

Codeshare Agreement

Codeshare Agreement will only be applicable for connecting flights whether between international airports that being served by both airlines or a domestic transfer flight in destinations country.

For the first term connection between international airport will include at least 3 airports where one airport is served by Raru Air and the other served by your airline while the third airport is in between both airports. Ex. Codesharing for flights of Mumbai-Singapore-Jakarta where Mumbai-Singapore flights is served by your airline while Singapore-Jakarta is served by Raru Air.

For the second term domestic transfer in destinations country includes domestic airport in your country which connected to international airport which served by both airline. Ex. Japan-Indonesia domestic flights, passenger in your airline arriving in Jakarta (as one of the international airport served by Raru Air) can be transfer into domestic destinations in Indonesia which doesn't has international flights schedule and vice versa.
