NOUVEL ECOSSE CITY OF CULTURE 2014
Hannibal is located on the banks of the Lakkvarv Hannibal, one of Nouvel Ecosse's largest and most beautiful lakes, amongst the Altnordisch Mountains, which stretch between Lakkvarv Hannibal & Buscemi Loch. Lakkvarv Hannibal is the meeting point of three rivers, two of which continue on to the Ocean at the far north of Astyria. Because of its northernly location and the altitude to which the City is located (c3200m above sea level), Hannibal is subject to freezing temperatures from October to April, and the city can be brought to a standstill in December and January due to heavy snow, which can sometimes fall up to ten feet.
Due to the freezing temperatures, Lakkvarv Hannibal is subject to thick ice, and is popular amongst curlers and skaters, who are attracted to the City along with thousands of skiers during the Winter. Often seen as an upmarket haven for the upper-classes by people from around the country, Hannibal, a City of 2.5 Million, is in reality a lot more than just that. Supporting many key industries, including alcohol, meat and sustainable wood, Hannibal is a meeting place for people of all different backgrounds, culminating in the International Hannibal Music Festival in March each year, which coincides with the last weeks of the skiing season.
The location of Hannibal means that the mountains, rivers and forests that surround it offer some of the most delicate, beautiful and pristine views available near to habitation in the World. Due to the enclosed nature of the city, a twenty minute trip out of the city through the Altnordsich Mountains and you can already feel cut off from civilisation. The night-sky, with little light-pollution illuminating it, is one, if not the, most beautiful scene in all of Nouvel Ecosse, and many are lucky enough to ski under it.
The snow tends to thaw around April, and during the Summer months it has been known for the temperature to reach the balmy heights of close to 30C. During these months hill-walking, mountain-biking, and even water-sports on the loch are popular.
History
Hannibal was founded in 560 AD when the Keitel Empire began to expand westwards. Based on the River and lake, it was a prime spot for trade, and was popular amongst fishermen and travelers from the west to the main lands of the east. The Mountains were impassable but to the most hardy and experienced of mountaineers, so Hannibal offered an entrance to the two routes around them.
