HyppMetal-43 has recently won a contest for a Lunar Exploration Vehicle (LEV) design. Hypparchia aims to established a permanent lunar base by the year 2020, and the LEV would be the main transport in this hostile environment.

We're done designing the prototype vehicle, which is based on our advanced APC-X1 vehicle.

The APC-X1 is a last-generation Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), designed and manufactured by the HyppMetal-43 machinery town near New Kula.

It is designed to replace Hypparchia's BTR series of armored personnel carriers, excluding the BTR-90, and is among the first projects of the Future Military Systems program.

The APC-X1 is a heavily armored 4x4 vehicle designed mostly for the urban warfare environment. It is powered by a 450 hp turbocharged diesel engine. The vehicle's suspension is hydropneumatic, which provides for extreme comfort during travel.

Protection is provided by a steel-niobium modular plating. Maximum frontal thickness is 35 mm, while the rear armor has a thickness of 10 mm.

The main armament includes two 18-mm automatic cannons with a selectable rate of fire, mounted in an unmanned, remotely-controlled turret at the rear of the vehicle. Each cannon is supplied with 250 rounds. Secondary (and optional) armament includes smoke grenade dischargers (6), AT-9 anti-tank missiles (2), either a 12.7 or a 7.62 mm machine gun, or an anti-personnel mine layer (with 8 mines).

Electronic equipment includes night vision optics, infrared and thermal imagers, a laser rangefinder and an IED detector.

Crew consists of a driver, gunner and commander. A total of 18 passengers can be carried on the APC-X1.

However, tests have shown that the currently used powerplant, a Grammaton Industries GI-450 turbocharged diesel engine, is extremely susceptible to damage in a vacuum environment with extreme levels of ambient radiation, such as the lunar surface. All GI-series engines, including the GI-600 Main Battle Tank engine, and the missile platform powerplant GI-8000, fail in such environments despite all of them have received advanced electric systems and anti-radiation cladding. This issue effectively brings the Lunar Exploration Vehicle to a halt.

Few nations have the technological capabilities you possess, thus, we would like to know if you would be interested in developing a radically new powerplant for the LEV project.

Our current design includes a large betavoltaic atomic battery, similar to those we use in some of our military satellites.

We would also hear any of your suggestions on redesigning the APC-X1 to a LEV.
