Official Notice from the United States Department of Defense

After extensive research by the DoD, we have decided a gradual decommissioning of the Type 31 cruiser, as used by our Patrol Squadrons, is in order. While the Type 31 cruiser is an excellent piece of gear, it is a piece of gear which would be better at home in the navy of a naval superpower. Allanea is not a naval superpower, nor will she ever be one. To contend for the title, against such navies as the one of Questers and Praetonia, is nothing but a waste of the taxpayer dollars.

At this stage, every single Type 31 cruiser costs 19 million Menelmacari credits per year to maintain, and 400 million Menelmacari credits to replace at the end of its usual lifespan. Conversely, the Champion-class, which possesses comparable VLS capacity, will cost us 12.5 million Menelmacari credits to maintain and 250 million Menelmacari to replace at the end of its lifespan, allowing for savings of 6.5 billion credits (or 13 billion Universal Standard Dollars) per year, added to the savings of 550 million Universal Standard Dollars at purchase.

Therefore, the Department of Defense has requested, and the Congress has approved, a gradual program to replace our Type 31 cruisers with 1,000 Champion-class DDGs, over the course of the next seven years as the current generation of Type 31s outlives its lifespan and is decommissioned and either sold off to private entities or scrapped.
