Is it though? The IATA regulates airlines - without it, every airline would do things differently and airports would be a mess.

Firstly, allow me to apologise for any confusion that has arisen as a result of my earlier correspondence, which I hope can be resolved with the information below.

In regards to the airport codes, Arcadian Air, on behalf of the Arcadian Airports Assoc., is content to have three letter codes assigned in place of the four letter codes used domestically. Rather than the IATA convention of allocating codes based on the first letters in the names of the airports, we request that codes are allocated to reflect the four letter codes used at present. As such;
Arcadia National Airport: (local code) ARAN -> ARA (IATA code)
Flinders Airport: (local code) ARFL -> ARF (IATA code)
The IATA three letter codes (ARA and ARF) would be used solely in correspondence with the IATA and its members, while the existing four letter codes will continue to be used operationally by Arcadian Air, other domestic providers and local regulatory bodies.
