ARMAMENT

Overview: The guns are 30.25 metres long, 10.80m of which is encased in the turret itself. Because of the excellent standard of reload drill and gun safety in the GSRN, coming from years of being a battleship-heavy Navy, it was decided that the guns would be able to cut some safety measures in exchange for easiness of reload and simplicity of machinery. Usually in GSRN naval mounts it was necessary for all the blast doors to be closed in the barbette before the shell was mounted into the turret, then an officer would check the security of the barbette, then an automated system would double check it. At that point the machinery would mount the shell into the position to be placed into the turret and an officer would check that everything is safely stored. The shell would pass through a scanning system that would confirm that it was in good shape by conducting a quick scan. If there was a deformity in the shell, if it was too hot or if there was a problem with the cap then it would be sent to the back of the turret to an armoured containment storage and a new shell would be chosen. Magistrate uses a similar system but as well as using more advanced machinery to lift up shells it scrapped the system whereby a shell would have to be checked before being loaded into the barrel. In the Magistrate, officers and automated systems would check the shells in their magazines before combat. If there was a hit nearby the magazine then they would be scanned during battle and any non usable shells would be marked unsuitable and would not be selected for use in the turret by the machinery.
This measure makes shell loading much faster and in addition to better trained crews and faster machinery, reload speed is comparatively superior to previous ships. The barrels are secured into the turret with a steel cylinder that is locked into the elavation mechanism and extends fairly far out into the barrel. It is tightly bolted in and was mostly covered by the blast bags. The blast bags themselves are made from a thick leather that was painted white for aesthetic and traditional purposes. The main purpose of the blast bags is to stop the backwash from the firing of the guns entering the turret. After each firing excercise these leather blast bags are discarded and replaced. They're somewhat of a collectors item amongst naval enthusiasts and a used blast bag usually goes for around £150. The turret is soundproofed and the actual loading and firing mechanism is sealed off, efficiently minimising the damage to the crew from firing the guns.
In cooperation with the naval Radars mounted on Magistrate, the Mk 46 is capable of 69,250 metres of range with an accuracy circle of 1km. This drops to within what is deemed an "acceptable" 650m at 60,000m. At 35,000m an accuracy circle of 100m is capable if the guns where in good shape. The Radars are mounted high on the ship with the missile guidance systems on top of the tower and information was sent back and forth via super-powerful fibre optic connections. It is thought that the computers guiding these or even the connections themselves where very vulnerable to being intercepted, so considerable work was put into making this extremely difficult. The guns contain their own optic fire controls in case the main system is damaged.
The barbette from the turret extends deep below decks into a heavily defended magazine. Access to the magazine is limited and it is securely guarded by a marine contingent per magazine. The magazine itself is a revolver sort of magazine where the shells where stacked in a revolver that rotated when a new shell was needed. The magazine had its own power source but was linked from the main power source unless that was compromised, as do the turrets themselves. Reloading the magazines is done by opening the hatch on the top of the turret and using a crane to lower the shells into the mechanism (manual labour was required to fit the shell correctly) where it is loaded into the magazine mechanism. Because of the design of the magazines and the damage control systems which will be discussed later, it is possible that a magazine explosion would not be at all fatal to the ship.
The guns themselves weigh 600 tons per barrel, and each turret is around 5,000 tons. Elevation is limited to 42 degrees and -3 degrees. At 42 degrees, firing APBC shells the guns can achieve a penetration of 950mm, at 35 degrees 1,150mm, at 30 degrees 1,700mm, and at 25 degrees 1,500mm. The penetration peaks at 32 degrees with 1,735mm. The 6crh APBC Mk10 Heavy Shell (as it is codenamed) weighs 1950kg, and 6crh HE Mk10 Heavy Shell weighs 1810kg and achieved around 15%~ less penetration on average from the APBC shell. Given the use of the battleship in shore bombardment it was considered necessary for the vessel to be able to shell heavily defended shore locations with devastating firepower.
The guns are powered by their own generators located alongside the magazine. These generators take power from the machinery to power the guns but also have their own backup generators that can keep the weapons running. This means that in the age of electric powered equipment onboard ships, knocking out the machinery or the main generators would not be enough to cripple the ship permanently. The power generators can train the mounts at a speed of 3.4 degrees per second.

Overview: The missile capacity of the Magistrate is represented by the offensive/defensive capacity of the Guided Weapon System Mk 60 vertical launch cell. Seven metres in depth, 70cm in width and length, the cell is capable of holding anti-ship, anti-air, and anti-submarine weapons. Coupled with the sensor systems of the Mogami, which are directly comparable to that of the Mogami class, the Magistrate has its own offensive and defensive strike capacity; A-111 ALLIGATOR long range SAMs or P-900 long range stealth attack missiles.
The GWS-60 cells are mounted in four blocks; 2 blocks of 21 (7x3), starboard and port, forward of the centreline, and 2 blocks of 105 (21 x 5), starboard and port, rearward of the centreline.

Torpedo protection is provided by internal bulkheads lining the longitudinal beams of the vessel. 730 individuals bulkheaded cells assists in water containment and damage control should a torpedo strike the ship. Each bulkhead is 38mm thick with a 7.5mm backing.

The S-225 Smoke Break is an enclosed mast AESA radar. It comprises the principal sensor suite of the vessel and is capable of air and sea search, target acquisition, fire control, navigation and communication. Inside the S-225 is the Boresight targeting radar that provides accurate radar and IR targeting to the main cannons and the Telescope system that provides fire control for the ships missiles. Additionally included is the Bouncer electronic warfare system, although the Amphion is capable of EW, too.
The main radar element of the S-225 is the Amphion X Band Radar.

Secondary Radar: S-404 SHOT TRAP
The secondary radar of the vessel is the S-404 Shot Trap pattern volume search, very high frequency radar. This enormous VHF type radar is used for the detection of stealth aircraft. A stealth construction depends on the wavelength of the detecting radar to be smaller than the principal dimensions of the aircraft. A metric radar wavelength eliminates the ability of smaller aircraft to thoroughly evade stealth. Fighter and small bomber sized aircraft is too small and most of the shaping features fall within the wavelength of a VHF radar. This does not negate stealth measures but it does severely reduce it. Employed on the Mogami class to great effect, the S-404 SHOT TRAP radar, who's principal element is the Tarsier radar. This radar is capable of detecting an RCS Of 0.0001 (i.e. F-22A) at approximately 250km. The S-404 also handles fire control for surface to air missiles.

The Magistrate is powered by a boiler and steam turbine system that gives it efficient top and cruising speeds. A nuclear propulsion was not installed because of its large size when compared with similar output propulsion systems, cost, maintenance reasons, and risk of destruction.
