The Mandel 677 PDW was designed as an all-weather, lightweight, low-recoil weapon for use by special operations soldiers. So far is has served Wirbel well, keeping several men alive, and killing many enemy soldiers.
The Mandel 677 was designed around the action of the Mandel 8. The Mandel 8's action was extremely reliable, but it suffered due to the short length of its barrel and weight of unecessary items like a grenade luancher and a drum magazine (Makes no sense, right?). The designers took the unecessary weight off of the weapon, gave it a folding stock, and used more carbon fiber- making the weapon harder to break and lighter. This is what they came up with.
To reduce recoil and make the weapon more suitable for a close quarter battle situation, the weapon was designed with a large flash hider and several shock absorbers behind the bolt. After testing the weapon, the majority of the shooters said that it kicked less than a weapon firing the 6.5mm Grendel cartridge.
