Early Development

Submarine carriers have been around as experimental concepts since the early twentieth century, to the ending years of the Cold War. The People's Huangdiist Teikoku, during the Second World War (as the Empire of Japan), had experimented at least once with the I-400 super submarine carrier capable of transport a maximum of three amphibious planes. These numerous projects would eventually be resurrected recently to resume submarine carrier research. Back in the 1990s, at least ten years after the Comrade People"s Revolutionary Huangdiist Emperor rose to power on a massive scale on Earth, he commenced the operations of as well as heavily invested in the research of a Submarine nuclear carrier, as well as an amphibious assault nuclear submarine, both of which were intensely researched under Project "1122.99X", a naval superiority project designed to obtained superior submarine warfare capabilities, which also include numerous other research projects, including the Sea Nekomimi SSI class submarines, as well as researching future methods for energy, including the feasibility of dark matter, nuclear fusion, anti-matter, or solar power in naval vessels.

During those labouring years, even up to now (of which the SSCVN, SSLPHN, SSI are only to be released later on), the project was kept a terribly top secret classified level, of which armed soldiers in NBC gear wearing scuba tanks & black suits with heavy sniper/assault rifles were on orders to shoot down anyone that came within 6 km of the bases where the research was taking place (Hakodate Harbour, Fukuoka Harbour, Nagoya Harbour), where almost every other vessel was cleared out, being redirected to other ports instead of the main one. The research concerning the SSCVN was a complex research being done here. In 1960, a Japanese Military Intelligence envoy had been sent to United States to observe & confirm rumoured projects of strange naval weaponry, to bring back to the JMSDF back then, to do some secret research. Some researching as well as espionage was also conducted on Russia, until the Huangdiist Japanese movement brought Japan & Russia closer together, eventually resulting in the Empire we see today, where the military had unlimited exclusive access to all research, allowing them to resume the project by the early 1990s, under the Comrade Emperor's heavy, intensive investments.

The original intended idea was to create a submarine vessel capable of taking an aviation division under water, without issue, on a large scale, to transport them stealthily, to deploy them in a lethal surprise attack manner, to use the advantage of submarine carriers as a means to rapidly deploy aircraft without being detected too quickly, while the carrier itself simply had to slip beneath the waves to hide from potential enemy air strikes. In 2011 the project was drastically accelerated when the homeland came under invasion by the Quendi coalition, in which the armed forces declared the surface carrier obsolete due to its obvious vulnerabilities. Desperate, the Comrade People's Emperor of Japan turned back to resuming Project "1122.99X" in full force, placing heavy emphasis on it, as well as pouring billions of yen into the investment of building at least one such submarine carrier. The intended plan was to create something the enemy was sure to be caught terribly off guard of.

In addition, the previous emphasis of what roles the SSCVN would undertake were horribly stressed as the war reached a pinnacle in terrible losses in Pan-Asian manpower & resources when the Quendi forces began to rapidly push in. Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Russian, German, Turkish, Egyptian, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Burmese, Thai, Laotian, Mongolian, as well as Kazakh scientists all over the Empire banded together to do some hard time research on concluding the project as soon as possible. The project had by now become a massive priority to finish as well as to complete. Moreover, the military had become absolutely desperate enough for a weapon that could turn the tide of the war. At last, Phase I of the Project "1122.99X", was completed. The Tsunami-110x class Nuclear Aviation Submarine/Nuclear Powered Submarine Aircraft-Helicopter Carrier (SSCVN)'s first vessel was launched on November 1st, 2011 when the military was being drastically pushed back by coalition forces of imperialist colonial evils. This sole SSCVN was deemed good enough for combat, then performed sea trials around the coastal areas of the Sakamoto Province in the Continent of Fruria, worlds away from the Homeland. Successful, the SSCVN was then loaded with a package of aircraft, then prepared to set sail for the East Asian coastline, to hopefully turn the tide of the war just enough to save the country...

Design

The overall submarine looks like a mainly mono-hulled structure, however under it the nuclear aviation submarine uses a triple hull system for increased thickness, armour, as well as balance. moreover is divided into 58 water tight compartments both vertically as well as laterally with the largest compartment being hangers and aircraft maintenance facilities. The forward compartments contain crew living spaces, weapons handling spaces in addition to control spaces not critical to recovering propulsion as well as hangers, with magazines/storage. The stern compartments contain the bulk of the ship's engineering systems, power generation turbines, nuclear reactors, as well as water making equipment. The large hanger section is segmented as well as sections can be isolated should a hull breach occur. This class of submarine is one of the largest classes ever built at 373 metres long moreover displacing 60,000 tonnes in overall weight. This submarine carrier has an extensive array of VLS cells on the top of the stern, allowing it the capability of having a good deterrence against enemy forces should the need ever arise.

Furthermore the Tsunami class nuclear aviation submarines were designed with the role of stealthily assaulting enemy fleets with aircraft by flanking enemy forces from the rear, as well as the capability for stealthy land attack operations, with the submarine silently surfacing, launching its aircraft to bombard coastal enemy targets, then swiftly recovering the aircrafts before swiftly submerging before the enemy gets a chance at taking down the submarine. It also makes an excellent weapon for covert operations against a potentially hostile neutral country, or to be used as a weapon of sabotage to take down strategic enemy assets. In addition another suitable role for these submarines is littoral defence, in which such vessels can be deployed to rapidly attacking incoming enemy fleets with surprising launches of aircrafts seemingly coming out of nowhere in massive waves to rapidly engage the enemy forces in hit & run guerrilla naval warfare, as designated by the Comrade People's Emperor himself when he originally conceived the Tsunami class (Project 110x/1100) nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines.

The conning tower of the submarine contains most of her sensoring & processing systems, while electronics are also contained therein. On the sides of the massive submarine super-structure are one midget nuclear fast attack submarines for either side of the vessel, provided as escorts in a potential submarine carrier task force. These 50 metre long midget nuclear submarines are attached to the main SSCVN moreover are constantly available for us whenever necessary. Aircraft launched from this submarine can be launched using the Electro-Magnetic Aircraft Launching Catapult System (EMALS) as well as CATOBAR & electro-magnetic advanced arresting gear to recover the aircraft after they finished performing a sortie.Like all other submarines in the People's Liberation Resistance Army Navy Submarine Forces (PLRAN-SF), the Tsunami class SSCVN have high-yield, extremely solid carbon-nanotube/triple hardness steel with tungsten carbide steel plated hulls designed to withstand pressures underwater to places as deep as 250-280 metres, without much troubles at all.

The masts of the Tsunami class SSCVN, just like the Senjiro class SSBN-X, the Yukoritomo class SSN-X, the Ryuujin I & II class SSGN-X, or the Hirohito class SAIO-X, all have been equipped with magnetic anomaly detectors, a sophisticated submarine radar, advanced sonar systems, some infrared sensors, high resolution high definition cameras (2500 x 1600p) with light intensification systems, infrared & ultraviolet laser ranging systems, as well as an electric support measures array (ESM), while also having a set of electronic countermeasures, jamming, chaffing, as well as other tools of offence & defence the submarines have been equipped with to provide deadly accuracy against targets. Signals from the masts are therein transmitted through fibre-optic links, simultaneous dual-band high speed Wireless (300 mbps + 300 mbps)/IPv6 connections, as well as signal processors down to the advanced computer systems inside the command & control centre room of the submarine. With nuclear powered reactors backed up with permanent magnet motors, an integrated-electric propulsion, as well as air-independent propulsion, this vessel can attain up to 30-40 knots in speed submerged, while can attain up to 25 knots while surfaced.

The advanced nuclear reactors on board the vessel give the submarines up to 60 years in life-span at sea without refuelling a single time at all. At this point, it can endure another 4,000 nautical miles using only diesel-electric power. This hybrid system enables the submarine to function in a more efficient collegiate manner. Another important feature found in these submarines is their usage of the Peripheral Vertical Launching Systems which is quite the clever concept for launching cruise missiles always in a safely conducted manner, keeping an emphasis on crew survivability as well as fire control on board the vessel one of the highest priorities. In addition another important feature in terms of materials used to build the vessel is the fact of which the triple hardness steel alloy is also composed of HY-100 steel formerly seen in the Sea Wolf & Virginia class submarines, which the government decided to implement for the PLRAN-SF's submarines. Another important feature is the design being based off the Chinese SSCVN carrier concept, as well as looking upon the Russian concepts.

The reinforced rounded cover of the sail is intended to break through the ice of the Arctic ice cap. The submarine is fitted with a floating antenna buoy to receive radio messages, target designation data and satellite navigation signals at a great depth in addition to under the ice. The bow horizontal hydroplanes are retracted into the hull. The main mechanisms have modular design as well as two-cascade shock-absorbing system. The Tsunami-110x class is also designed for extensive under-ice operations: their diving planes are on the bow rather than on the sail, and they have reinforced sails. The hulls are constructed from Hong Niao Type 118 Nano-Crystal/Triple Hardness Steel, combined with tungsten & depleted uranium coating to further reinforce the submarine's armour, rather than the weaker steel employed in previous classes, to better withstand water pressure at greater depths, combined with its stronger engines. The boats also have extensive equipment for shallow-water operations, including a flood-able silo capable of simultaneously deploying eight combat swimmers in addition to their equipment. There are eight watertight compartments in the Japanese nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines.

These boats are quieter than their predecessors as well as incorporate a more advanced combat system. For the most part the ship moreover internal fixtures are constructed of non-magnetic materials where ever possible, significantly reducing the chances of it being detected by magnetic anomaly detection or setting off magnetic naval mines. The submarine is equipped with indigenously developed cabin-raft (shock absorbers) system that helped to reduce noise level by over 35dB. The outer side of the submarine's hull, casing and fin is fitted with about numerous elastomeric acoustic tiles around the outer hull to reduce the submarine's acoustic signature. The acoustic tiles absorb the sound waves of active sonar, reducing and distorting the return signal, thereby reducing its effective range. The tiles also attenuate the sounds emitted from the vessel, typically its engines, to reduce the range at which it can be detected by passive sonar.

Hanger, Flight Capacity, Deck Design, Ship Structure

The main conspicuous power of the Tsunami-110x class SSCVN is its air group. The aircraft are stored within the hull moreover there are five elevators to lift them to the outside. The Hanger area entails a large area in cubic metres, capable of handling a wide variety of aircraft composing an entire aviation division in modern day standards. When surfaced, garage-like doors slide in an upwards motion exposing the elevators & flight deck and expanding the surface area and forming a slight upward ramp toward the bow to aid in overall take-offs. Five electro-magnetic aircraft catapult launching systems are recessed in the flight deck and accessible on the surface when the flight deck covers retract. There is single helicopter landing pad, as well as three fighter aircraft parking stations to the aft of the Submarine Tower, moreover five STO positions forward, with individual well decks on the sides. In addition to that, there is a deck circling the submarine, as well as a long circling lane to go with it. The usual aircraft capacity is 58, although can change depending on specifically assigned sorts, with different hangar sections allocated to the different sorts of aircraft the submarine can load.

When it comes to recovering the aircrafts, they are arrested using a combination of the CATOBAR systems with the Advanced Arresting Gear found in the Uchiha Madara class nuclear powered super aircraft guided missile carriers which have taken this feature originally from the Gerald R. Ford class of American nuclear powered super aircraft guided missile carriers. Concerning the submarine's flight deck it circles the entire the submarine, in which this implies that another side from which to launch (or possibly recover) aircraft from, this being the other starboard, exists. In addition, the part of the submarine where the elevators & hangars go up to the surface exist in the middle section of the submarine which is attached, as the main CGI three-dimensional Chinese picture implies, to the submarine's conning tower. On a usual scale the flight deck features a set of Close-in Weapon Systems to provide anti-aircraft cover similar to the ones found in the I-400 class submarine carrier from the Second World War (which had three to five four-gun 20-40 mm turrets of AA heavy machine guns).

The other important factor of the overall flight deck is that it also features its anti-submarine anti-torpedo equipment, mainly being RBU-1000, RBU-6000, as well as Udav-1 (RBU-12000) rocket launchers designed to provide protection of the submarine from other submarines or torpedoes when the vessel is surfaced, just as the Close-in Weapon Systems provide assurance against cruise missiles, anti-ship weapons, aircraft, among other things. This submarine further has another special complementing feature, which is considered by many a necessary breakthrough (or perhaps return backwards) for submarine aviation, by making it a priority to fit aircraft taking off from a submarine with seaplane amphibious floats to make them land on water to make this an easier process in recovering a plane after a mission. Nevertheless such a concept is only suitable in striking operations as adding such a platform to aircraft is not an appropriate idea when engaging in air-to-air combat. Finally, a major role the nuclear aviation submarines can also provide is deploying UCAVs into the air. In the meantime, aircraft numbers by default are as follows:

Command & Control Systems | Communications | Electronic Warfare Systems

Similarly found in the Sea Wolf class submarines or Virginia class, there is a special advanced combat system called the ARCI Modified AN/BSY-2 combat system, which includes a new, larger spherical sonar array, a wide aperture array (WAA), and a new towed-array sonar. However, the advanced potency of the electronics on board the submarine is proportionately increased when adding the Ishikawajima Type X-99KM Military Battle Space-Interface Software Suite as the main operating system for the vessel, while the Tsunami class SSCVN itself as well as its sister Ryuujin II class SSGN-NG classes, Yukoritomo class SSN-X & Senjiro class SSBN as well as Hirohito class SAIO-X submarines are all capable of tracking between 100-500 different targets simultaneously, while the central computing systems have a 3.5 GHz twelve-core central processing unit capable of performing many instructions, a feature seen in the Type X-99KM OS & its assorted computing system. To complement with those, the Tsunami class SSCVNs as well as their sister submarines of other nuclear powered classes all commonly share the Oda-II Sensoring Package as well as the Oda-I Decoy & Jamming System which allows the submarines an excellent variety of means to detect enemy vessels, whilst also having a deterrence against incoming targets.

In addition to the aforementioned the Tsunami class nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines, like the rest of the navy or the whole entire military for the matter, use the Type 666 "Yukoshikken" Cryptological Encryption Machine, a powerful tool so advanced, so encrypted that no nation so far has ever broken the code or managed to intercept military communications between personnel across the branches. Radio broadcast communications are also available on board the vessel, while a data-link system between every vessel exists to provide constant information between each fleet for proper synchronization prior to coordinating a naval strategy in the most appropriate manner possible. Tsunami class SSCVNs, just as the rest of the navy's surface vessel classes, are also capable of functioning in terms of communications using the following enumerated functions of Code 13, Type 41X, Xian T-5, as well as Code 2012, forming the infamous 13-41X-T5-2012 communications data link sequence said to be oriented around the Mayan calendar & 2012 for little to no reason, other than perhaps the Comrade People's Emperor's own personal cult, or pure "voluntary" insanity.

Propulsion Systems | Engine Power

The Tsunami class nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines have an interesting variety of propulsion systems. Its two advanced Uesugi Kenshin III class Generation-IV Nuclear Fission/Fusion (Hybrid) Pressurised Water Reactors (with liquid nitrogen cooling) power four different steam turbines, while an additional PM motor is also included in these submarines, combined together to provide around 300,000 shp or more of power for the vessel, to two shafts holding eight-blade screws using integrated electric propulsion as well as CONAS methods. This allows the SSCVN some excellent propulsion bringing speeds up to forty knots theoretically (30 knots in practice) when submerged, whilst attaining up to twenty-five knots in speeds when surfaced.

In addition to this, the Tsunami class nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines have been fitted with air-independent propulsion as an optional experimental method of obtaining additional speed. In an effort to reduce risk of cavitation, there has been a slight modification to the shafts, removing the traditional propellers, instead adding in place two low noise pump-jet propulsion systems in place of the propellers. Finishing this, the strength of the overall hull, as well as the strong materials used, including the use of high vanadium (AISI A11) tool steel & buckypaper enables a stronger hull capable of withstanding deep areas of the ocean often as low as 230-250 metres, yet can ultimately go reach depths as deep as 800 metres. However, concerning propulsion, the submarine still uses two other propellers due to the need for balancing out the disadvantages sometimes seen with pump-jet, therefore the SSCVNs use a hybrid propulsion of both eight-bladed propellers as well as pump-jet systems.

Sensoring & Processing Systems

The main surface searching radar in the SSCVNs, is known as the New Zealand designed Reutech RSR 210N multi-purpose 2D radar, which has proven its worth in a military radar demonstration exposition in Hakodate where numerous engineers provided their ideas to the Comrade People's Emperor himself. In the end, it was approved, moreover this radar was complemented with a customized, classified, top secret submarine edition of the Thales APAR & SMART-L radar. To add to the aforementioned, when the submarine surfaces, the other radar feature, this being a cross between the Reutech ESR 360VX system & ESR 360L as well as ESR 380 systems, with the AN/SPY 1D (V2) concept, formed together into the submarine's Type 66 Air Defence security, which provides it early warning against possible attacks from the air, giving the submarine additional time to contact surface vessels for air defence assistance.

Additionally, this is complemented with the Oda-IIB Sensoring Package, which provides the submarine extended sonar & surface searching capabilities whilst also having a good fire control systems to aid in combat situations. In the Oda-IIB Sensoring Package are special advanced systems taken from the American designed submarines, which are the BQQ-6 passive bow-mounted array (which includes BQS-13 fire control array), providing passive detection systems to submarine, while the BQR-19 navigation system was designed as a means of achieving accurate navigation underwater using an advanced set of electronics & GPS systems. A TB-16 or BQR-23 towed array is also present, along with the BQR-25 conformal array, while the submarines also use advanced sets of magnetic anomaly detection sensors, infrared technologies, while laser range-finding systems are present to precisely guide the torpedoes when doing so in close range situations.

Armaments

The Tsunami class nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines have a wide variety of armaments, although we shall discuss more of the two special air defence systems included in the package.

Early Development

Then so it was. Just as the government began intensive researching on nuclear powered aircraft carrier submarines, even to the point of successfully building one plus having made it undertake sea trials, the government now set to proceed to attempt another brilliant wonder, the building of a fleet of SSCVNs, escorting SSLPHNs, or otherwise known as nuclear powered amphibious assault submarines. As with the SSCVNs, this project had been undertaken before by several others, dating as far back as the early months of the Cold War. Now, starting in the late 1990s, Project 801x/8010 "Koujiro" began with an ambitious goal to provide a submarine capable of stealthily operating in amphibious landings to send a surprise invasion force into enemy territory in a swift manner. Years progressed into this project until recently in late 2011 one nuclear amphibious assault submarine was released from harbour to undergo sea trials, in conjunction with the sole SSCVN currently in service as of now, of which this SSLPHN, is the IJN Koujiro (SSLPHN-01). Currently, five others are being built near completion, while an addition seven more are being planned.
