Green Skyfarm/ Deepfarm/ Farm Barge/Waste Reclamation (PMT)

Postby Free Commonalities » Sun Sep 13, 2009 9:23 am

While it is remotely possible to build this today. It is more likely to be built in the near future. It is post modern green technology.

Do you need to serve a dense population with little arable land, are your cities in need of an immediate food source close by. This is a way to serve a city with population problems.

Image

Skyfarm

Height: 300 Meters
Width: Radius is 20 Meters, Width is 40 Meters
Stories: 40 Stories Aboveground, 6 Stories below ground level

Building Construction: Modular circular construction. Each story is a cylindrical section of uniform height.

Building Materials: Enzyme bonded concrete, recycled metals, fiber insulation, bioplastics and biomaterials and other plant based materials developed using green chemistry.

Windows: The windows are made of a specially coated power glass. Power glass is a clear glass that can convert sunlight to electricity at a conversion rate of 8%. The windows also repel water. The water is caught in catchments at the bases of the windows.

Energy: There is a solar dish on the roof capable of powering the heating/cooling and farm systems in the building. Optionally in windy areas rotary wind turbines can be added instead. There is a pellet burning cogeneration heat/steam facility in the basement. This is run by powdering then compressing non-edible plant matter. It takes in leftovers from restaurants, excess plant matter from parks, roof gardens, and the vertical farm for processing. The cogeneration system uses a flue capture system to process any smog.

Farm Systems: The internal system is a bioshelter farm which houses aquaponics-- fish tanks for tilapia, hydroponics-- for growing different kinds of food, aeroponics-- for beans, strawberries, and other plants, small plot grains-- rice, wheat and corn, miniature fruit trees, mycology farms, and chicken coops. Because the food is grown indoors it is all organic with very few pesticides. A wide variety of foods is grown creating an indoor farm ecosystem. The system is designed to be very dense with trellises, stacking trays, and multiple layers of crops. In addition to food, a number of pharmaceutical herbs are grown.

Wastewater Treatment: The system includes a living machines blackwater treatement system. This can take sewage water and purify it so it can be used to water the plants.

There is an evapotranspiration system to recollect lost water, and collection stations to collect refuse to use in the pellet burning cogeneration system.

The lower levels include a refrigeration level and transportation to bring food to market.

Cost $200 Million.

Do you need a way to supply your fallout shelters or underground cities. This is a way to provide fresh produce for your nuclear bomb shelter. Maybe the surface is just not that hospitable. Or maybe, there is not that much open land.

Deep Farm

Depth: 80 Meters
Width: 80 Meters x 80 Meters
Floors: 10 Floors

Construction Materials: Enzyme Bonded Concrete, Fiber Reinforced Concrete, Recycled Steel, Bioplastics

Construction: These are simple square levels in which plants are grown. There is a quiet elevator systems between the different levels of the deep farm.

Energy: The system is underground so it does not need a huge amount of heating and cooling. The system uses a pellet burning cogeneration system, it processes non-edible plant material into pellets which are burned to create energy. It also uses an anaerobic digester to convert collected human and animal waste into manure and biogas.

Wastewater Treatment: The system uses a living machines system to purify blackwater so it can be used to water the plants in the farm.

There is an evapotranspiration system to recollect lost water, and collection stations to collect refuse to use in the pellet burning cogeneration system.

The upper levels include a refrigeration and transportation area to bring food to market.

Cost: $200 Million

Can't afford a skyfarm or deepfarm. Have you run out of room on land completely. Do you need fresh vegetables for your country. Buy a greenhouse farm barge. These can be floated on rivers, harbors, lakes.

Greenhouse Farm Barge

Size: 40 Meters by 40 Meters
Draft: 5 Meters

This is exactly what it says it is, an urban greenhouse on a large barge. It is taken from a refurbished barge to make it more affordable. The greenhouses use hydroponics and aeroponics no soil, to limit the need for imported soil. Some of the type of food grown are beans, peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, lettuces, and herbs. There are also several tilapia fish tanks and some hen coops for eggs. It is modern technology.

The barge is powered by a vegetable oil engine converted engine. Included are strainers for waste grease to run the engine. There are also two small rotary wind turbines, and several solar panels.

Price: $250,000 per barge.

Waste Reclamation Agreement (PMT)

The Undersea Salvage and Recycling Cooperative has come up with a new idea to reclaim landfills. It is offering it to the world.

Parts of this idea came from recent scientific cooperative agreements which created advancements in science and technology.

We will send specialized equipment to your landfills using our new solar powered cargo airships. These require little fuel, they operate at high altitude at slow speeds where the sun shines constantly. The ships are hardshelled with thin film solar cells.

These ships will carry specialized devices to help clean out your landfills.

1) Plasma converters. These are a type of furnace that acts by pyrolysis not regular burning. It destroys garbage at 3000- 6000 degrees leaving little residue. What comes out is a form of biofuel, metals in nodules, and a glassine substance. There is almost no smoke. What little smoke there is is scrubbed and collected with air scrubbers.

2) What is deemed valuable as recyclables is not fed directly into the plasma furnaces. It is fed into an automated recycling machine which separates, metals, glasses, and plastics. These are broken down and fed into bins.

The airships come back on a regular schedule to pick up the materials produced by the recyclers and plasma converter. Workers are brought in shifts and housed in modular prefabricated houses with basic facilities. These function much like an oil derek limiting contact with outsiders if you want privacy for your citizesn. There is some light construction equipment which is needed to move around the garbage, utility trucks, earth moving equipment, etc.

After the garbage is fed into the plasma converter and recycler, the land goes through a process of reclamation using a system of bioremediation, a mix of grasses, plants, flowers, and bushes designed to suck up toxics, as well as bacteria designed to encapsulate toxics are used. This goes on for a period of one to two years. After the land is reclaimed, rapeseed, sunflowers, and other plants are cultivated to be fed into a small biorefinery which produces a variety of materials which will be sent by airship to the Free Commonalities-- bioplastics, cosmetics, fuels (ethanol, biodiesel), paints, and other materials.

The price we ask for cleaning out your landfills is the use of all material which comes from the landfills, and a lease for ten years to grow biofuel crops and use the biorefinery. The land and the depreciated biorefinery and plasma converter will be turned over to you at the end of the cleanup and lease.

The Free Commonalities is proud to present a new invention, a hybrid solar/wind turbine. This is a beautiful design appropriate for your capital.
It combines solar energy with wind energy. The wind speed to start this turbine is only 4 miles per hour. It runs on both sunny and windy days. The solar power part of this turbine is built on thinfilm technology, over a carbon fiber/ biopolymer frame. The turbine runs with our new air bearing technology allowing smooth continuous action. The cost of this technology is $7 per watt of energy. We currently have 5 kilowatt turbines for sale for a cost of $35,000 or 10 Kilowatts for $50,000 each.

OOC: The carbon fiber/biopolymer composite frame and air bearings are a bit different than the original design. This is by blue energy a new company.

This is a next generation airship after the DARPA Walrus. The skin is made of carbon fiber and steel aluminum alloy with a self healing underlayer. This is a hard shell airship much like the Turtle Airship a next generation long duration vehicle. The top half of the blimp is coated wtih thin film solar cells.

The hull material is very smooth to create low drag. The underlayer of the hull is designed to be self-healing. This underlayer is designed from a material similar to the transhab modules in our space station.

Inside the hull is an inert helium gas in numerous smaller gas bags made of a self-healing bioplastic.

The four main engines are hybrid fuel cell/ turbine electric.

This is a massive ship designed to carry a full division of equipment across the globe for both military and civilian purposes.

Cruise speed is 100 MPH, top speed is 200 MPH.

The airship is designed as a VTOL craft without need for moorings or landing field.
The flight is very smooth with little turbulence. The airship can hover and land on both land and water.

There is a Cargo Capacity of 1000 Tons in modular cargo bays.

Flight Ceiling is:

0-12,000 feet

Length 1100 Feet
Width 220 Feet
Height 130 Feet
Weight 1.5 Million Pounds

Range 20,000 Nautical Miles This is more than the originally Walrus because of the extensive use of solar power and hybrid engine system. It extends the range from the original 12,000 Miles.

Price $100 Million (The original cost for the prototype of the Walrus).

Image

This is the new pentamaran ship which the Free Commonalities is opening to market.
Length: 130 Meters
Cargo Capacity: 12,000 tons
Speed: 35-45 Knots standard. 50 knots top tested speed.

The market for this ship is that between aircraft and cargo ships. It is a very fast ship powerd by a hybrid diesel system that can also run agri-fuels combined with an electric system that powers a waterjet. The power of the system is 50 MW. If you need to get something quickly to market this is your ship. It is not for massive cargo shipments.

The draft of the ship is shallow allowing it to enter non-deep water harbors. The ship itself is a slender hull surrounded by four slender spontoons.

On the deck of the ship are solar cubes to help power the ship as well as hybrid spiral solar/wind turbines. These are fed into a distributed electric system throughout the ship allowing continuous reliable electricity and lighting. This extends the range of the ship.

The hull is made of algae based biopolymer infused with natural fibers that is much stronger than traditional plastics. It is coated with a corrosion resistant green chemical paint. The frame is made out of a lightweight steel and aluminum alloy that is mainly from recycled metals. This makes it both lightweight and strong.

Wastewater is treated aboard the ship. There is also an anchorless system which lowers bioplastic tanks into the water which take on sea water. This allows for more cargo.

The ship is priced at $50 million dollars.

Product Embedded Information Device

This is a an equipment monitoring device that includes a central chip set of a multilayered circuit silicon device. The chip feeds into a variety of sensors to determine wear and performance inside a product. The sensors use radio frequency identification to send signals to the main device. This allows complete life cycle and performance monitoring of a product.

Individual parts can be flagged for repair or performance improvements. This allows for quicker and more reliabkle manufacturing and upgrading of existing products. It is designed to integrate with recycling technologies so that replacements can be sent directly to be refurbished or recycled if they are no longer useful.

For example in a car this increases the amount of parts that can be recycled as well as the ability to remanufacture existing cars.

The device is designed to be used both on an individual level, with basic diagnostics available to the owner of the device as well as red flagging of failed products at the factory level. Predictive maintenance of products increases considerably.

There is no one size fits all for this product. It must be adjusted for each product that it is put in. Mainly it has been put in heavy equipment airships, boats, trains, factories, military equipment, power plants to prevent critical failures.

This product is ideal for devices which are part of long term lease or service contracts because it allows better monitoring of existing equipment

The use of this product is a licensing agreement to the technology.

A general license of $5 million is available for access to patents.

Seeing as we are a tundra nation that is extremely densely populated, this is just the thing we need. We would like to extend to you a construction contract. With the help of local construction workers and contractors, you are to build 250 Skyfarms and 250 Deepfarms all over the country. We are almost completely reliant on foreign imports for food, so this deal is well worth the cost for us if we can overcome our dependence on foreign foodstuffs. The price comes out to $100 billion. One question: Will your workers be building these structures, or will it be up to local construction workers? If your laborers will be constructing these things, it is expected that they will start immediately.

Thanks in advance,

To The Honorable Martin Olsen, Trade Representative
We can begin immediately on part of the total order. Our current population is 6 million people. We will be sending over a considerable amount of our laborers, engineers, and technical specialists. However, if you wish to finish a contract of this size, we will have to hire local labor and some specialists for half of the project if you wish to have the project expedited quickly. We will source some of the specialized material from our country and try to get a considerable amount locally. We will be sending over people and materials immediately.

At the bottom of the description the list price is $200 million per deep farm. 10,000 of them would come to $2,000,000,000,000. We can arrange for an installment plan if you would like. We need to know the total budget of your nation to make the plan efficient. It could be a mortgage of considerable length.

To Reilek,
Unfortunately, the majority of our engineers are currently occupied. We can provide plans, do surveying for sites, and provide technical assistance. In three years time, after initial site prepartions, we will have finished our previous contracts and be able to help you build your deep farms. We also ask you to send some of your construction workers to the Marianis School of Engineering in preparation for the large scale contract in Marianis City. Marianis is a deep water research facility of 3000 people, reachable by special submersible.

Regards,

Martha Ohyes, Free Commonalities Minister of Trade

OOC: 3 Days is three years in Nation States we should be ready to start on this contract with more population. Also, the real life term is vertical farm, supposedly a vertical farm of 30 stories today could feed 50,000 people. http://www.miller-mccune.com/science_en ... hopes-1226

A mile by a mile deepfarm that had 8 levels deep would feed 20,000,000 people and cost $100,000,000,000 or approximately $5,000 per person.

Re: Increased Production

To Korintar,
Because of the increasing amount of orders, we will accept additional help if it will improve the design, it will improve sales. As you can see there is quite a bit of demand for our skyfarms, deepfarms, and now greenhouse barges. We are looking to expand our product line to include other types of farms.

Martha Cruonis, Minister of Trade, Free Commonalities
