Background
Effective immediately, the Polythinia Airports Authority (PolyAvia) has opened the Atheia International Airport (IATA code: ATA ICAO code: 9ATH) to international airlines, companies et cetera. All foreign carriers are now welcome to take out gate applications, which will be considered thoroughly.
Atheia International is Polythinia's best new airport, replacing small airfields on the outskirts of the city. It serves the capital, with a rapidly growing population of 26 million in the metropolitan area. Atheia is a business and tourism hub, with the city's port at an all time high in vessels and TEU.
Along the Airport-City-Dock Expressway Corridor is the Northborough Development Zone, which is a free-trade, eco-friendly business city set up to boost trade relations with foreign countries. Many successful Polythinian companies are headquartered here, as well as other foreign ventures.
Safety
Atheia International Airport is under total security lockdown 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Military police and affiliated Gendarmerie patrol the perimeter and buildings of the airport facility, prepared for an armed response to terrorist activities. All passengers and personnel undergo rigorous safety screening including full-body scanners, baggage x-rays, drug-and-bomb-sniffing dogs, random searches, pat-downs, hand-wand inspections, etc. Police, fire, and medical services are available at the airport ready to respond to emergency situations.
