While we have disagreed with the Allaneans on numerous issues, and these issues have boiled over into physical confrontation on several occasions, we must applaud the actions of the Amistad Declaration and those who participate in it. Unfortunately, we can not sign this declaration at this time- we cannot sustain a war with the entire slaving world, currently. We view slavery as an antiquated atrocity that is only still in effect to serve the superiority fetishes of "master races" around the world; anyone who has a rudimentary knowledge of economics knows that slaves are a detriment to any modern economy.

Let it be known that any slave who sets foot on Federation soil, breathes our air, or swims in our waters will become a free man protected by the guns of the Federal Armed Forces, and will be eligible for citizenship. The Republic of Speersland condemns the Amistad Declaration for promoting warmongering, destruction and pillage. We further condemn the declaration for directly encouraging states to refudiate international law and even commit war crimes.

Slavery is permitted in Speersland and furthermore, the Constitution outlaws prohibition of slavery, though this is certainly amendable. About 7% of Speerslanders are slaves and 2% are slave owners. The majority of slave owners only own one slave, but there are some farms, houses and businesses that employ multiple slaves.

However, the Amistad Declaration demands stigmatisation of the citizens of slave state. This entirely goes against the Speerish principles of the rule of law, in which no-one is punished for the actions of others. The Amistad Declaration envisions Speersland as a monolithic block of die-hard slave-driving demons. Nothing could be further from the truth. Slavery is a controversial and divisive issue in Speersland. The majority of citizens and politicians favour gradual (soft) or immediate (hard) abolition of slavery, with only a minority wanting it to be retained indefinately.

There are two major reasons why abolition of slavery is difficult; currently, the pro-slavery parties make up about 36% of parliament, enough to block constitutional ammendments. The pro-slavery National Party remain the largest in Parliament and currently lead the coalition, of which my soft abolitionist League of Christian Democrats belongs to. The other barrier is concerns over the economic effects of setting the slaves free.

Go on, invade us. After all, you have already declared war on us, haven't you?

If you remove Agency from innocent people, then you do not deserve it yourself.
