Police Action (Att'n IRON)

Postby The Cosmic Balance » Tue Jul 28, 2009 9:21 pm

OOC: This is a spinoff from IRON Claims the North! (FT, open). OOC comments belong in the IRON OOC Thread

The Gilded Merganser came spiraling out of the supermassive black hole at the core of the Milky Way galaxy, hit the IRON FTLi network (which still hadn't been moved back to safe navigation range), strained to maintain its warp fields, succeeded, and then began to scoot away towards the Galactic "South". Before it did so, however, it lobbed a small message drone out a cargo hatch to carry notice of this latest navigational hazard back to a starbase somewhere in the Perseus-Pisces Supercluster, roughly 200MLY away, where it would soon be read and acted upon by those charged with the task of seeing that intergalactic shipping conventions were properly observed.

In the area, but most likely undetected by long range sensors, a Keflekki Marine Vessel was approaching the FTLi generator. After receiving the notice days ago, they began operations to move the structure. Not surprisingly, changing the location of such a device was not as easy as placing it there in the first place. Such a move had involved several days worth of research into the most effective, yet safest, position to move the generator to. Now that the new position had been decided, an intense override sequence was about to begin, just as soon as the IRON tech crew could get aboard the station.

Currently, the FTLi emplacement was dangerously close to the supermassive Black hole, a mere 50 billion kilometers... just outside the grasp of the accretion disc.

OOC: Since I'm the nearest IRON coreworld... why not.

The TAS Atlantis was half a light year away from these events, it was floating in to the well lit area of space mapping and cataloguing the gravitational affects of the super massive black hole on nearby objects. Its form was silhouetted against the mass of light emitted by all the stars clustered around the center of the galaxy. Its shields were up and fully charged due to all the radiation in local space.

The Bridge of the Atlantis was quiet; officers were going about their business. Captain Charles Logan sat back on the hovering command chair, he rested a hand idly upon his hairless smooth chin, and his brown eyes looked over a three dimensional holo map of the local space in-front of him. He slumped back on his chair yawning, the mundane task of cataloguing this area grinding on him already.

The Terran Alliance had recently entered in to the ESUS alliance, this opened up free travel between the north and south of the galaxies. Raptor class exploratory destroyers were often sent on missions to map and explore anomalies and make first contact. On this particular day however it seemed things would become interesting for the crew of the atlantes.

Logan was in a trance his eyes looking over various reports and clusters of information the AI was sending him. He was snapped out of it by a sudden blip on the Holotron scanner. The AI quickly spoke up through the N-link.

~Captain we have detected anomalous readings coming from the galactic center. It seems to be a ship of some kind however all the radation and gravatic interference from that area prevents us from scanning and obtaining all the details.~

Logan raised an eyebrow, he mused a moment about why a ship would be that close to the core, it could only be a ship in distress. He didn’t think a ship would go there just for kicks. He sighed and striated up he shifted in his chair and spoke back through the N-Link talking to his helms officer and the AI at the same time.

~All right, it could be a ship in distress, now the interface from that close to the core is mucking our sensors and we can’t even be sure communications will function at long ranges. All power to shields p lot a jump half a light second away from where we detected the ship and engage!. ~

With that order the Atlantis’s hull started to glow blue, arcing bolts of energy reverberated around its sleek metal hull space and time twisting around it distorting its form. In an instant a flare of bright blue energy erupted from the distortion leaving nothing but empty vacuum there as it snapped back to normal space.

The Atlantis popped in to existence half a light second in the wrong direction, due to the radiation and gravatic distortions.

The ship floated gently the maw of the super massive black hole visible. It was like a hellish eye of pure demonic terror, the bright lights of stars and fiery crimson halo of star matter. Sensors detected multiple star sized objects flying at ultra high speeds results of the gravatic pull of the black hole. The masses of star matter and light filled the sky.

Logan scratched his chin again leaning forward, sensors still had a bit of trouble detecting anything in the area, but they managed to lock on to a foreign object.

Logan spoke out through his N-Link, the AI patching him through to the thought to text program. The message the captain sent was:

“This Is the Terran Alliance ships Atlantis; we have detected anomalous readings from this sector, if there is any ship in distress or otherwise that we should know about please respond. If we can assist in any way let us know.”

The Atlantis’s general crew was uneasy about being that close to the core of the galaxy, spinning radioactive demonic black holes of death wasn’t exactly appealing. The eight scientists however were having a field day; sensors were at full sapping power from where ever the shields weren’t sapping already collecting all forms of data. Sensor readings poured in to the labs, and in to the data banks the Research AI’s already working on them.

"Are they talking to us?" asked Pfluff.

"Is who talking to us?" replied Dorgus, somewhat abstractedly. He was playing with a protein stick, half considering if he really wanted to eat it.

"These guys, you twit!" huffed the Vermish navigator, stabbing at his console with a stubby brown finger to replay the message:

This Is the Terran Alliance ships Atlantis; we have detected anomalous readings from this sector, if there
is any ship in distress or otherwise that we should know about please respond. If we can assist in any way
let us know.

Dorgus raised his eyebrows - or rather eyebrow, since what should have been two of them fused together in the middle. "We're not exactly in distress, you midget," he replied peevishly. "Though if we continue to stock food this bad, we might be..."

"D-mn-d Bryll," cursed the Verm in his beard. Then he proclaimed, as though on stage, "I'm going to answer!"

"Why?" asked Dorgus.

"Because!" Pfluff shot back.

Atlantis, this is Gilded Merganser. We are not in distress, but are instead proceeding on course towards
the Orion Spur. Thank you for your kind concern.

"There," continued the Verm with a certain degree of finality. "That should do it..."

"What the crap?"

Commander Lauren Jacks could be heard all through the command hull of her Kryptonite-Class Keflekki Marine Force Vessel. She was in command of a patrol ship, one that was currently performing just a tech support and logistics role. "What's a TA ship doing out here?"

"It's the Terran Alliance..." started the communications officer, "they just... show up. Everywhere."

The commander sighed. "How did they get here? Aren't we in an FTL-inhibited zone?! What do they want again?"

"They want to know if we're in distress."

She groaned a little bit out of frustration, then asked "is the tech crew on board the station yet?"

The tactical officer spoke up, "yes, they're beginning the shut-down process. The security procedures will take some time to override and--"

She didn't even let him finish before barking an order to the helm. "Pilot-man, back us away at 1/3 reverse thrust, and charge fold drive for a short-range hello jump."

The helm officer smiled, then did as she ordered. The ship quickly backed away from the FTLi station, with the fields still fully active. "We're clear... charging... and... adjusting power calculations for FTLi field intereference... aaaand... ready."

The commander smiled, and said "let's go shake their hands."

With that, and not even being a minute and a half since the TA text message had been received, the FoldShip raised its shield, which began to glow white for a brief moment, then disappeared.

The ship reappeared at the same instant, this time only about 200 meters outside the extreme edge of Atlantis' shields.

"Hail them, every frequency possible, every medium possible."

In what was sure to be a surprising overabundance of information, the Keflekki vessel transmitted Audio, Video, Hologram, and Text transcriptions, over RF, local subspace, hyperspace, infrared, laser, and morse code, the following message:

"Greetings, Terran vessel. This is Commander Lauren of the KMF Bel'Kish. It would appear that the last time our race encountered yours that there was a bit of a communications breakdown. We wanted to just make sure that didn't happen this time. Anyway, we are here to fix an IRON FTLi station, and we are not in distress. Thank you for your concern. Now... I would like to ask if you are in distress! You just used a conventional FTL to arrive right next to an FTL inhibitor! I would strongly suggest that you scan for damage! Lauren, Out."

Logan raised an eyebrow, he sighed as the message came through it was patched in through his N-Link. He sighed a bit noting the situation that had happened before on the other side of the core, he wasn’t going to let it happen again, and hopefully at the same time he would smooth relations over with them. Both messages popped up on screen. Logan read it, his officers idly working in the background. He wondered what the freighter was doing so close to the core.

Sensor records had shown no other ship like it registered in the Terran Data base. Logan just sighed and placed his hands upon the armrests of the command chair, he sent another message via N-Link One to the unknown ship and one to the Keflekki ship.

To the unknown ship:

“I see, well It is good to see that you are all-right, we were nearby mapping the area and studying the effects of the super massive black hole when we detected your ship slamming if you will in to the FTLi wall this station was producing, what brings you to this part of the galaxy, we are curious as this may be a first contact situation. If you want to meet with us you are welcome to come to our ship”
The message was delivered quickly and the next one to the Keflekki was typed up instantly.

“We understand what happened before, and it was a mistake on our part, however we wish to inform you we were just here studying the local anomalies when we discovered that unknown ship slamming in to the FTLi wall here, we’ve never had dealings with their race before . At any rate, we are not here to engage in anything hostile but to back you up if need be, I would like to purpose a meeting of sorts if you wish?”

Logan wasn’t worried to much about any threats of violence, the Atlantis wasn’t there to shoot at any one, but was interested in meeting with the captain of the odd ship that had jumped in to this area. The Raptor class was designed for first contact situations and research. But it did have teeth if need be. The Exploratory Destroyer stood its ground floating there, the maw of the black hole spinning forth energy and radiation pouring from its jaws.

In the mean time, one of the torpedo bays had opened up, a small ovoid research drone flew out in a sparkle of light as its micro repeller drive engaged, and it set a course to the black hole and would stop before reaching the critical point where it would be sucked in. Researchers and scientist hoped that it would shed some more light on this area of space, and provided a detailed multi spectrum three dimensional map of the place.

Logan awaited the response of the two ships he tapped his fingers upon the hard armrest of the command chair, he was lost in thought, the deadly beauty of this place had an odd ominous tone to it. Acoustic sensors picked up the low D minor sound that the singularity made and filtered it to science station to the corner of the command chair. The noise filled Logan’s ear, keeping him entranced.

ooc: aww, I was expecting a black hole probe to be like the tornado probes in Twister...

The commander laughed as the misspelled text message came through. "Their commander wants to meet with me, eh?" She thought on the idea for a moment, then quickly replied, over the text message bands,
Code: Select all
Sure thing.  My place or yours? - Lauren
This commander's personality was obviously not that of what one would normally think a marine, let alone a CO, would possess.

She sent a short follow-up right away.
Code: Select all
Our shields are down and our hangar is open if you wish to come aboard.  - RMF Bel'Kish command

"Inviting us to tea?" asked Plfuff laconically.

"Maybe they just don't get visitors around here that often," mused Dorgus with excessive dryness.

"Hmmmph!" huffed the Verm in a way that made his beard flutter. "Well, I don't see as how we have much time for social calls."

Atlantis, our thanks for your offer, but perhaps some other time. We are on a trading voyage and some of
our cargo is perishable. If you let us know where you hail from, we'll look you up when we drop by the
area. Have a nice day...

"Have ... a ... nice ... day?!?" the Bryll teased acidly. "That is soooo wrong."

"If you think you could do it better..." snapped the Verm.

"No, no, no!" laughed the green-skinned humanoid. "Everyone knows that you Verm excel at these social niceties!"

"Quiet, you leaf-eater," growled Dorgus.

Logan Had sighed a bit and raised an eyebrow at the refusal but it was totally within their right to not want to come, he shrugged it off and nodded to the AI.

~keep an eye on that ship, in the mean time send a reply to the Keflekki ship.~
Logan nodded a blip was heard, he sent a message to the Keflekki ship.

“Well, I don’t mind but I guess we can host things, we’ll open our bay doors for you, I look forward to meeting you”

Logan just smiled as he stood up adjusting his uniform; he nodded to the AI, the left fighter pod bay opening to allow shuttles or other craft in. Logan waved over two officers from their stations and walked over to the trasnpad at the ready to meet their guest in an instant.

The AI spoke up to Logan through the N link

~Captain we have an enemy ship decloaking, their weapons are charged and shields up.

Logan raised an eyebrow and then sighed stiffening up in his chair his eyes looking up at the holo screen as it depicted another ship in orange as another unknown and possibly hostile.

Logan barked out orders as he sat up.

~Go to condition yellow, open gun ports but don’t charge weapons. Open a channel ~
With that order The Atlantis’s weapon ports had opened various plates of armor retracted turrets and missile tubes became exposed.

The Atlantis sent a message to Xzarian ship.

“This is the Terran Alliance ship Atlantis to the unknown vessel please identify yourself, why do you have your weapons activated?. ”

ooc: Who? what? Where did you come from? What possible reason could you possibly have for being over here? and why are you charging weapons? You better have a good reason...

IC:

"Commander, there's another ship in the area."

"How do these people keep getting in here with an FTL inhibitor in the area?! I'm sick of this, load weapons, bring us about to face the new ship."

The Bel'Kish's hull suddenly came to life, with about 80 ports all across the hull opening up and sprouting out small 2-pronged turrets. They banks on the forward dorsal hulls quickly aimed and charged themselves. Each began to glow brightly, ready to pounce. 2 large EM cannons disclosed themselves from bays on the side of the ship, then swivelled to life, aiming straight at the new 'warbird.' This, in total, was about 10% of the firepower capabilities of the ship, readied and aimed.

"They are of a weak design, very cheap. I'd guess they just discovered warp drive and they think they are the kings of space."

Commander Lauren smiled, and said "respond to their hail, open a channel."

In her calmest voice, she addressed the Xzarian ship. "This is Commander Lauren, KDF Bel'Kish. You are intruding on IRON-controlled space. Please lower your weapons and return to your own space. Failure to comply means we will pull the triggers just for fun. We formally request that you go away. Get your cheap little science experiment out of here, or face a death-by-many-mediums-of-energy destruction. K, bye."

ooc: now seriously, scoot, unless you can come up with some reason why you just did what you just did.

IC:

Commander Lauren looked down to read the message from the TA ship. She replied with a quick "we'll be there shortly... dealing with something."

OOC: this is rather close to my freeport for me to not get involved, the gunboat looks like this:http://fc09.deviantart.com/fs47/i/2009/210/9/e/gunboat_NS_by_seb_deadzedcomics.png
CIC,freeport bermuda
a scanner operator was sitting, bored, bermuda was a little used freeport that the military had primary control over, there wasn't much traffic and the air recyclers where faulty, he noticed something was up when a power surge inside a small group of ships approximately 1000LY's away, he picked up his telephone and hit the auto dialer
"command there is a power surge a small distance away, requesting a patrol be diverted to investigate"
"request permitted, you have authorization to send a patrol wing consisting of one gunboat and 2 jumpers"
"thank you command"
he put the phone down, he picked up a communicator
"patrol wing 4 you are to divert to investigate possible hostiles, coordinates sent"
"Rodger control, may we wormhole-jump in?"
"confirmed, you may"
"thanks control, gunboat 2235n of pat4 out"
the gunboat
"capt, do we really have to be diverted?"
"it looks that way, input the coordinates and open the wormhole, the jumpers already know where were going, activate shields as soon as we arrive, its probably just smugglers but its better to be prepared for pirates"
"activating wormhole"
the engine pods on the sides of the ship extended and a yellow light was shot forward, it stopped and started to travel around in circles until it became just a ring shaped blur then an event horizon grew in the middle of the ring, the 3 ships accelerated into it then the ring disappeared
a ring materialized out of nowhere near the other ships then the event horizon then out of the event horizon came the 3 ships, straight after the ring disappeared
"holy crap, i was expecting smugglers, its a war zone, send a message for the ships to all stand down!"

ooc: Okay dude, seriously. First off, how do you randomly pick out, let alone notice, a small group of ships that are 1000 light years away? Second... why! Seriously, why!! Third, there is an FTLi field here... that means that Faster Than Light Travel is Inhibited! You're better than this! Fourth... WHY!!!?!?

TCB, you're the original poster, you handle this please.

IC:

"More ships in the area, commander! It's NERV! They're asking us to... stand down?" The tactical officer was seriously weirded out.

Lauren lept from her chair, "HONESTLY!!! What cosmic stellar phenomena suddenly called for a crapload of ships to come over here? And what's wrong with the FTLi field?!? Isn't it still operational?!"

"Actually the team just disabled it, so--"

"HAIL THEM."

"Which one...?"

"All of them."

The communications officer was quite scared now... moreso of the Commander.

"This is Commander Lauren Jacks of the IRON-Aligned Keflekki Marine Force battleship Bel'Kish. We will not stand down. We were here on a peaceful logistics mission and now suddenly half the galaxy decides to show up and bug us. Seriously, get out. There's nothing to see here! Really! It's a small little station needing a repair! Get out! Go home! Shew! All of you!"

She closed the channel, and walked over to the tactical console. She then mashed a button that instantly released the charge from all the weapons, sending it back to the primary capacitor banks. The ship was now dead in the water... a moderate gesture of good faith.

OOC: Sooooo tempted ... soooooo ... tempted. Must not succumb ... Must ... not ... succumb ...!!!

"Whoa, look at that!" snapped Plfuff.

"What?!?" starteld Dorgus, dropping the protein stick. Guess I won't be eating that after all...

"Look in the rear-view mirror!" gestured Plfuff. Not that it was a rear-view mirror, but that's what the Verm had always called the rearward viewing panel.

Dorgus goggled. Instead of the two warships they'd encounter just a moment ago, there were now four, and they were all charging weapons.

"You suppose we started something?" murmured the Verm in awe.

"Nah, we couldn't be that lucky," mused the Bryll. "Still, maybe we should vid this. We could send it in and see it on 'The News at 10'..."

"Best idea you've had all day, Greenie," swore Plfuff as he stabbed the blue "record" button.

OOC: Oooooooh, I don't think I can stand it....

<saving throw ... FAILED>

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

IC: Rising up out of the supermassive black hole came a much larger shape. Unlike the last two vessels to pop unexpectedly out of the intergalactic rabbit hole, this one was clearly military in design, having that rangy, mean-dog look really impressive military vessels have.

Lauren Jacks watched as the NERV ship disappeared into a magic wormhole, then sighed with relief. "One down.. two to --"

"Command--"

"What, what is it now...?"

"Another sh-"

"ship just appeared on sensors, yeah, I figured."

"They're haili-"

"I know they're hailing us, lieutenant. Just put it on the displays."

She groaned a little, as everything seemed to happen in the space of about 5 minutes. She then breathed in deeply, trying to calm herself, and opened up a text message window.

Yeah. Hi. Everything's shiny, nothing to fret. We're dealing with a slight malfunction, but everything's perfectly alright now. We're fine, we're all fine, here, now, thank you. How are you?

She signed her name, and sent it, trying her best to calm herself with what she considered humor.

ooc: yeah, wanted to experiment with board code :P and I realize now that I can not sign with a girl's handwriting... so... she's.. a marine... that's my excuse :P

Quite well, thank you. We received a report that there was an FTLi generator deployed closer to the core
of this galaxy than intergalactic convention allows. Would you know anything about that?

And who are all these other people? If they're just gawking, it would be best for them to move along.
There's nothing to see here, after all...

The commander chuckled, and responded with another text message.

You know how Terrans get... they see heavy construction equipment and they all turn into kids again. Except in the case of the TA, they just act as they normally do.

We are actually here maintenancing the misplaced FTLi generator. Some idiot forgot to place it the correct distance from the black hole, and it drifted towards it. Everything's fine though. Impressive ship you have, yes.
She smiled, "I'm guessing the super-advanced race doesn't have the ability to overcome time dilation for an audio message, but try it anyway."

"Frequencies open, commander."

Knowing full well that her voice could sound high and squeaky with time dilation, she spoke as slowly as she could tolerate. "This is Commander Lauren Jacks, KMF Bel'Kish. Can you respond? We understand that several of your vessels have impacted the wall, some with harmful effects. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we're in the middle of a galactic reform. Some idiot forgot to account for the effects of the black hole and the frequency of travelers from other galaxies. I repeat, can you respond?"

Thank you for that information, Bel'Kish. If you are in the process of correcting the problem, we won't
detain you any further. That said, do you mind if we poke around a bit?

Figuring they understood her voice transmission, she continued aloud, "no problem at all. We're just doing this maitenence work and we'd appreciate a check from your vessel if it isn't inconvenient. Our ship isn't built for transgalactic travel, and we would appreciate your input. We should have the barrier reestablished in about 5 minutes. If you'll excuse us, we're going to proceed. Bel'Kish, over."

The ship began to vent plasma from between the hulls, which quickly snapped into place to form a shell around the vessel. It began to glow and spark brightly until the ship vanished.

With a crackle, and a poof of gas released into space, the ship finished it's fold transaction right next to the station. It began to match velocity, pulling alongside until It was almost touching. The ship then began to emit the same plasma cloud, much larger, trying to envelop the entire station. When the plasma cloud snapped into the same, albeit larger shell shape, it began to glow and spark again. It charged for about a minute, lighting-ish streaks filled the cloudy shell until finally it collapsed and both were gone.

The ship and station now floated at the pre-calculated distance from the core. The Bel'Kish fired several heavy tow-cables towards the station, then engaged thrusters to tow it up to an appropriate orbit speed.

The commander sent a quick message, saying "if you want to attempt the maneuver, it'll be up by the time you get back."
