"Right, be right back in a moment." Magister said

The undead looked at him, then her, then back at him as he closed in on them.

They all clustered around him, beating on him with fists and weapons.

"Argh, wait your turn will you? Be right there Caroline, seriously!" he could be heard saying.

There were a couple of blinding flashes, then, nothing.

"I got them!" Magister said with a weary shakey voice. His wings were shredded, his robes were torn, his armor in pieces, and multiple wounds across his body.

"Channel if you need me." he said, and disappeared.

So, the way Caroline had chosen lead to over hundreds of choices. Clearly it would take a few weeks to find her goal. Good thing she had supplies.

Her supplies turned out to be a single tent, marked "Xos's Magic Tent."

After a full night of wandering and walking, when she first used the tent, it would turn out to be the best part of the trip. Once erected, it immediatly raised Multi-dimensional shields around a small area, insuring Caroline's complete safety. Inside were never-ending provisions of food, water, other drinks, a nice comfortable bed, some books, even a working toilet and shower. It was like a portable house.

None of the books appeared to be helpful, they were all boring technical manuels on The Elements and how they worked. She knew more than was written in the books already, clearly they were out of date. Especially since they classified anyone who could use an element beyond the classic four as "Gods", which clearly wasn't true.

One book was full of jokes about magic, and magic users.

They ranged from one liners to jokes that had a lengthy story behind them.

"How many Wizards does it take to change a lightbulb?

Four, one to concieve of the light bulb, one to perfect building the light bulb, one to quest for the lightbulb, and one to train an apprentice in the arts of the lightbulb, at which point the apprentice will actually just get up and change the lightbulb.

Later generations will hail the apprentice as a mighty wizard for his actions."

At this Point Caroline Put the book down and Began to study the map

It appeared that the Map was drawn from a top down perspective, like most maps, but based on experiences, many of the lines were tunnels on top of each other, meaning the map was accurate, yes, but it also needed Depth, to be truly helpful. It would take careful work and study to actually make it to the sphere marked EW.

Caroline Marked her current position and then Plotted all the nearest junctions and in which order to check them on a separate piece of paper. She then studied the rest of the map before going to bed

This action would cause her journey to get along faster, easier, and more effeciently.

This day would begin to yeild a series of regular marks in the wall. If Caroline paid attention, she'd find another journal.

Later that night in the tent....

"This tunnel is profoundly confusing, ever since I first wandered into it blindly under the mountain. Where is the exit? Why do some parts fling me along like a blade of grass in an ill wind? Why can I stick to the cave roof without magic? Mysterious forces indeed, perhaps inexplicable. I've been marking the wall at every branch, to help me find my way either in or out. Each mark has an arrow indicating the way I came. Took me nine days to realize, but I made one single giant circut around a room. So I went around again and made a second set of marks.

....

Something's in that room, I can feel it. I went back today, and used the new and imporved version of Probe to find out what's on the other side. My wife says she thinks she can improve upon Probe, calling her theoretical new spell Scan. HAH! I developed Probe myself, it can't be improved upon! Scan. As if such a spell were possible. But how helpful it would be here.

....

I wish that spell were true, that, that THING came out of the walls! IT WALKED THROUGH SOLID ROCK LIKE WATER!

Worse yet, it's tormenting me, changing the layout of this strange cave it says is another dimension. Ridiculous. Everyone knows there's only three. Length, width, and Depth. Still doesn't explain time though, or that marvelous endless sky...

After while she Marked where she though this room would be

The room was EW. There was only one way in, or out, but it was surrounded by pathways.

If she took up Xos's suggustion and used Scan at any time, in any part of the plane...

Caroline would discover, erected in her mind, a complete Three Dimensional map of Pandemonium, including where she was, and where everything else was!

For example, she'd know full well that there was a massive undead signature closing in on her.

Close behind her, came the sound of clinking metal...

It was a skeletal abomination! It possessed seven heads on a huge hulking body covered in steel plates bearing four arms, each welding a massive mythril mace.

It looked at her, then it charged, swinging three of the clubs for her with a profound amount of strength.

She'd need a small army of back-up. Caroline was Irene's best student, but Irene had only mentioned the art of Multi-summoning, summoning more than one summons. Yet, perhaps now was an excellent time to give it a try on her own, and see if she was simply good, or a genius...

It was Captain Novatia, who immediatly summoned his pirate army.

"Avast girlie, that be a frightening monster. Why summon me in a cave and not on water where I'd actually be useful?" Captain Novatia asked as his crew fought off other skeletons with their scimitars.

The monster swung for Caroline again, the maces coming straight at her! Novatia blocked one.
