Fall of Joshua (FT, See Sign-Ups)

Postby The Ben Boys » Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:01 pm

OOC: Sign-Up here.

Detrah System, in orbit over Joshua
Space Marine Battleship Blood Angel, Chapel
2nd Battalion, 9th Company
0912 Hours, Day 1

Two men stood over the Marines. Light flooded from behind them, Detrah's light. In front of the two sergeants, the young marines were staring. They had yet to see combat, but their hearts were strong, it was thier job to indictrine them before their first, and maybe last, battle.
They were sergeants Brusaus Ortevski and Elias Devaast. They wouldn't be going into battle together or with the young Marines, but as Space Marines of the 4th Tribe it was their duty to carry out the ritual.
Elias spoke first, "The enemy brings the worst in men, the enemy brings you pestilence, and death. The Val are our enemy. Every time we march from our beloved Tribe World of Jaccrage and it's lush forests and peaceful skies, we march to face down the Val, and banish them."
Brusaus tossed a large rocker bullet at one of them randomly.
"Are you ready to do just that?" He barked.
"Yes, sir." The young Marine replied.
"That bullet shall belong to your first kill." The older man told him, then turned the the others.
"You must be ready to die, you must be ready to sacrifice everything and anything. The forces of Val will accept nothing less than your life. If you must give them that, they must give you theirs."
Then Elias stepped forward, "You are about to receive the honor of going into combat for the first time, as Marines of the 4th Tribe of Ben, as Alpharus Marines."
They could hear something, the fleet was getting into position. It was time for combat, in a short while.
"You will march for Jaccrage." Elias said, and the young Marines echoed, "And we shall know no treachery."
"You will march for the Tribe." Brusaus continued, and the echo came, "And we shall know no heresy."
"We will march for the Empress." Elias said, and Brusaus tossed electro swords to the younger Marines. They raised in unison, and yelled, "We shall know no fear!"
As the echos died down, the comm barked, "Sergeants prepare your men, meet in the hangar bay and proceed to your assigned stations."

OOC: Murgoth, UD1, basically you go and meet your 4-man squads in the armory, introduce them a bit if you want, then move to the hangar bay and get to the defense platform Liege. For the other 3 scenarios, I'm working on them.

Detrah System, Joshua
Xinzar City, Shopping Mall
9th Company, 94th Regiment
0927 Hours, Day 1

The sun was just coming up on this hemisphere, peeking over the horizon just ten minutes ago. 9th Company was assigned to escort the civvies to the sports arena, and they were gathering at the mall. Damn, at least 4,000 needed to be evaced, most people in the city were gone, why the hell did they have to stay?
The shopping mall was actually an ideal firebase. There was plenty of room, and the roof was two meters of concrete for the harsh winter. There was little glass because the autumn winds usually broke if it was unreinforced. It couldn't withstand a nuke or shipboard plasma, but it would do nicely for their uses.
But even over the mountains, they could even feel the rumble. The rumble of light ships, fast enough to get past the orbital batteries and dispatch a good 40,000 Val. 40,000 against 2,000, hardly even. Then again, were the odds ever even?
The civilians started to move out, but many knew that the Val came in three ways: By air, on the ground, or from under you.

OOC: Neo Orb, PFM, you guys are going to be escorting the civvies. But be careful, a few commandos or snipers may have made it past the sentries... or even by air.
-----
OOC: Gank, I really don't have a premise for you. Your basically going to be in the subways, trying to clear them out. There will be firefights and ambushes with swarms of Vul. Identify your HQ somewhere in the subways (such as a station or a maintenance tunnel), and your current situation (what you are doing to search/destroy the Vul).

Detrah System, Joshua
Ikjaj Plains
1st Company, 14th Leviathan Armored Regiment
0931 Hours, Day 1

The ground shook as the skies went dark. Shadows darted across the plains. They were tear drop, jet black, planes, moving in excess of nine hundred miles per hour. Attached to their wings were eight bombs, each one capable of devastating firepower. Their noses housed four plasma cannons, capable of slicing through armor with ease.
The four bombers were targeting the collection of vehicles; identified as Cherokees, Scythes, and RANGERs. A total of 2,000 troops, combining to form a unit the Benians called a "regiment". No matter, they weren't interested in the xenoanthropology of Benians, or any others for that matter.
They were above the first of the vehicles. The first let loose his bombs then went to the rendezvous with the ship in the Celeen Mountains. The second peeled off to target a convoy of APCs, then joined the first. The other two raced to the center of the regiment, where historically the commander was. If they killed him, they could mop up the rest of the regiment later.

OOC: Dimoniquid, it's just opening up with someone trying to kill you with twin bombers. You can also make your decision in your retaliation post.

Xinzar City, Shopping Mall
9th Company, 94th Regiment
0927 Hours, Day 1

Corporal Alexander looked around at the gathered civilains and sighed. Why did he always get the most menial and boring jobs of wars? He walked through the gathered crowd checking everyone had what they needed. He stroked his assault rifle as he walked through the group greeting any civilians he knew or helping people load heavy suitcases onto handmade carts. As he came back towards his squad he threw up a quick salute and said, "Civies all ready for extraction sir. Do we begin to move them out?" He asked of his senior officer.

OOC: Who starts the civies moving?

The man nodded to the corporal. "Get them going, Corporal, they're too damn sscared to move without a guard." Serves them right for staying too damn long, the older man thought.
A few of the civilians started to move up front when the soldiers started to escort them, but the majority were uneasy. Even with a guard, they didn't want to leave and go out into the open.
The lieutenant sighed, watching some of the troopers trying to coax them out. "Corporal, get these civvies moving and you get the first flight out of this hellhole."

"SIR!" Alexander said saluting before standing up on top of a small stack of crates, "You got two options! Stay here and be taken out by the Val or move and get off this hellhole!" The civies all looked at eachother several more began to move and slowly others seemed to begin to follow. It was then that a fellow soldier of Jeremy's Squad came over to him, "Hey Jerem, I was looking through the long range scanners and i picked up some movement out there on top of an apartment building or something like it."
"Val?" Alexander asked.
"Not sure sir it was gone before i could be sure." The young soldeir responded. Alexander stroked his chin thoughtfully.

Apartments in Xinzar City were, on average, 800 feet high. Each had it's own pools, plaza, playgrounds, landing pads, and even shops. Two thousand people was the norm for even the estates of the Xinzar apartments. They were homes in the sky.
Being so large, they provided an excellent advantage to the Val Slayers. Slayers, were elite Vorg scouts, with a purpose to harass the enemy in the best possible ways. They didn't carry plasma rifles, but instead Demonfire railrifles. The long range provided them with an advantage.
The six man Val Slayer team was positioned upon an apartment, readying for their attack. Two of them aimed downward at a rush of refugees, pouring out of a nearby shopping mall. The lead Slayer smiled. More humans to kill.
He brought out his weapon: a Boomshot. It was a favorite of Slayers, killing dozens of humans with a single grenade blast. He aimed below, waiting for the right time.
There... the humans were crowded together. Their men, women, and children. Primitive humans, using biological reproduction methods, and raising such offspring. They will never learn.
A shot rang out; the grenade hit in a crowd of civilians. Less than a second later, they were dead.
Madness ensued as the civilians rushed for cover.

Brusaus Ortevski was giddy with excitement once again he marched against the foes of the almight Ben! but it wouldn't do to show this to the recruits. some of them may not be fully enlightened about the wonders of the empire, and so would be confused about a war hero screaming with bloodlust and excitement before the enemies where even seen. must stay controlled. it is all for Ben.
"My name is Brusaus Ortevski, sargeant of the BenOrts. I make it my mission to know every soldier of the 2nd, and me being stuck on this ship with you unbloods has given me the chance to learn yours. I want each of you to say your name, rank, and any specialities you might have when i point at you."
Brusaus didn't ask for an answer. they didn't give any. he then wiated a full ten seconds to point. they didn't interrupt. good.
he pointed to the one to the far right, and ran down the row. they each spoke in turn. marvelous.
"tlaacom faktul, private, none, sir."
"hunder opr, private, sidearms and accuracy, sir."
"grunt grun, private, greater rocket guns and anti vehicle weapontry, sir."
"vivis untivil, private, none, sir."
"excellent. now, i won't be fighting near you, but at the very least i'll note you if i see you again. now ready up and prepare to be assigned. i'll hold your hands until the official comes."
four obediant and strong soldiers for Ben. must keep a straight face. don't show happiness. don't show emotion. only readiness. only readiness.

"Attention, Marines. Board the outbound Firehawks for the defense platform Liege." The comm rang across the Blood Angle. The Val ships were approaching the planet of Joshua. It was starting.

Skree Xanatos stared down the long and dark train tunnel. The station he was standing at had been fortified, but he still was worried that the forces would never end. Fortunately, he had his men, and he was sure that they were all he needed. He checked the fortifications again to be abuslutely sure they would work. He then turned to his men.
"Men" He began, his voice scruffy, "We all have little idea of how many of these aliens are in this tunnel. All we know are that there are lots. Too many for us to handle." He stopped to let the words sink in. "Which is why i have given permission that the nearest train be filled with explosives." This shocked the troops. He wasn't surprised. Explosions weren't protocal, but they were the best tool ever. "What i plan is that the train is going to be sent down the tunnel, and we may cause quite a big dent in there numbers, giving every person on this planet a better chance. However, we have one problem."
He marched in around the men, checking their perfect formation. "As you all know, these subways run on electricity. You also may have noticed that the electricity has been out for quite a while. However, with some digging, i have discovered that there is several back up generators further in the tunnel. These generators should be able to give enough electricity to keep the subway going until it makes the , what i call, blow up point."

He turned to his men. "Sounds easy enough? Think again. The generator is in the enemies territory, and even if we captured it, it would take much skill to keep the generator running until the subway made to its destination. Which is why i am going forword, and i am looking for volunteers. I want people to remain here to make sure that these aliens don't go above ground and attack whatever civilians that may be left. But i need some volenteers to go into the tunnel. I need brave men who will not wet their silly cheap pants in the face of death. Nor do i want cowboys who laugh at death. I need men who can work, and concentrate on their duty, and will not be afraid of killing themselves for their planet."

He walked to the front of the group. "So who will come with me?"

There was a great deal of hesitation. Going into battle with Skree didn't seem like a good option, however, staying here wouldn't be better. Soon, volentters cried out. Skree nodded, and motioned the men forword. He then nodded to the rest. "Stay here, and when elec. comes back, start the train. Make sure the explosives are set to a timer, i don't want impact, as their may be a few bumbs along the way."

He then turned to the group of volenteers. "Any questions from you men?" Silence. Skree smiled. "You will be called heroes when we win." He then turned and motioned his troops forword alon the tunnel, weopons ready.

The blast of the grenade sent Jeremy soaring backwards soldiers around him began screaming and shouting as they tried to locate the area of the shot. Jeremy immediatly fixed his eyes on the apartment building the private had earlier spotted movement in. He quickly lifted his rifle and looked through the sniper scope he had attached to it. There! A thermal spike of non human origin he quickly fiddled with the dials and soon got a form appear in front of his eye. He took careful aim and seized the trigger doing a double tap sending two quick and fast bullets out at the enemy. As the bullets began their journey Jeremy turned and began shouting at the nearest group of soldiers, "Get those ref's out the way and moving down the road clear the way for the medics!" THe men nodded and quickly began doing as ordered the civilains beginning to move forwards with a little more speed than before. As they moved Jeremy began running across the plaza and towards the apartment block he'd detected the heat signuatre in he ignored all the cries of his superiors as he moved towards the building 200 metres 100 metres he was nearly there...

Corpral Jeremy Alexander burst into the entrance lobby of the building and looked around. The building was dark inside and he quickly turned on a shoulder mounted flash light as he began to move slowly into the building. "For the shot to have reached us from this far away would've had to have been fired from the top of this block." He said to himself as he moved towards the stair case he kicked the door open and did a quick look around. He then slowly and caustiously began to climb upwards rifle at the ready.

OOC: It's good, I'm not going to be a canon Nazi.

IC: The Vul were in the shadows, waiting. They crept along the ceiling and walls, unseen. They were waiting.
One man fell a few feet behind the others, and a small grunt was heard as he disappeared. A few seconds later, a mangled body, chunks of flesh and bone gone, fell from the ceiling. There was a brief scurrying of small feet, then the Vul were quiet, waiting.

Joshua
Xinzar City, Shopping Mall
3rd Squad, 94th Regiment
Sargent Douglas
0930 Hours, Day 1

Near the Mall to its side, a small squad of men and women stood around, all them were quiet, reserved, but the sounds of chatter between them could be heard slightly over the noise of Civvies near by talking and complaining while looking at the small squad with scornful eyes as they wondered who had but these crack jobs with the duty of escorting them to safety, a little off to the side of the nine persons squad however was Sargent Douglas Getty, Age; twenty three, he stood at 5' 10" with pale white skin, under his thinner features the harder unseen muscle mass could be seen showing a trained body under the fragile looking man.

As Douglas's eyes watched the Buildings around them his eyes and mind scanning and creating dozens of quick firefight options, his short dirty blond hair could be seen under his helmet, with his right foot on a small light metal crate, he sighed and let one of his hands shuffle around in his breast pocket as he took out a carton of cigarettes and quickly lit one and let the smoke blow from his mouth with the cig hanging from it, as he let the ash fall and hit his boot before it was blown away by the wind, he sighed once more and them turned pushing the crate to his crew...

"Right... center... open the crates, lets get our weapons order in line..." spoke Douglas, quickly all chatter even from the civvies stopped, there were a few mumbles as some civvies recognized him in reports aired previously, the nine man squad quickly snapped to attention and replied in unison.
"Yes Sargent, Opening the crates for weapons inventory, Sir." quickly a young privet went to the metal crate Douglas and pushed towards them and opened it, his face however was quickly turned from surprise to questionable before looking at his Sargent.

"Sir, there's no weapons in here, just bullet's and magazines... what are we suppose to do with ammo if we don't have guns sir..." spoke the privet, Doug smiled and then replied.
"and how are you to fire a gun without bullets?, no come on lets get the mags filled, then you get the weapons... double time."

Once again in unison the squad spoke. "Yes, Sargent."
Quickly they all started grabbing bullets and filling magazines and clips with the rounds, within a few minutes all the magazines were ready to go as Douglas smiled and then dropped a large black sack and opened it throwing the weapons to his crew.
"Corporal Lee, Privet Jabbers, Master Corporal Kenny, these are for you" spoke Sargent Douglas as he quickly threw their supply of three shotguns towards the three soldiers who quickly caught the weapons and started loading them and keeping a supply of ammunition for themselves.

As Douglas proceeded to handed out the SMG's to his another three solders of his squad, Privets Hugues, Walker and Leblanc, at the same time he handed the DMR's to his remaining solders keeping a SMG and DMR for himself once he was ready to grab ammunition.
As Sargent Eden grabbed her DMR she smiled lightly quickly looking at her fellow soldiers before speaking and helping with the ammunition distribution.

"So, Sargent Getty, squad three of the 94th, whats our mission... boss?" spoke Edens, as the other solders laughed while loading their weapons, Douglas smiled as he took the cigarette from his mouth and dropped it to the ground.

"Our mission Boys and girls it to escort our civvies to safety, Lock and Load, keep a few magazines on your persons for the SMG's DMRs and the Shotguns, encase another runs out of ammo, we work as a team and a family... when one needs something, we give it... pass me a clip and take a few frags... lets get moving... we got a job to do..." spoke Douglas, in unison and louder then ever the Soldiers yelled out "Yes Sir Sargent..."

withing a few seconds, Fragmentation grenades were strapped to belts and bags lifted onto there backs, as Douglas strapped on the remaining clips of ammunition for his and his squads guns should they need extra ammunition, as he shoulder his SMG and kept his DMR in his hands he sighed lightly and then looked once again at the buildings... whispering lightly

"Fuckin Val, I had one week until my retirement from this tour... your gonna pay for attack Joshua... I'll make sure of that... i hope we enjoy this game of hide and seek."

"What was that Sargent?" asked Corporeal Lee as he heard his squad leader talk.
"Oh nothing, just bitchin about the fact that my tours end is gonna be delayed... right gather the civvies we moving in five minutes... and hurry, i have a bad feeling... bout all of this." spoke douglas, once again his eyes looked at the buildings, this time, there was a emptiness to them where if you looked into them, it was like looking into the eyes of a dead soul.

Sorry for the wait BB, been around and what not, well that and my prior one was eaten.

OOC: It's okay. Also, the Val already attacked the civvies, seen in above posts.

This is the start for Scenario 2.

IC:
Edge of Detrah
Deadly Gesture, Battlegroup Vintar
1102 Hours, Day 1
The cruiser Deadly Gesture rendezvoused with Battlegroup Vintar on the edge of the star system. The battlegroup already consisted of a carrier, three battleships, seven cruisers, and nineteen destroyers. The Gesture , maneuvered into it's niche between two other cruisers.
But just as the ship moved into position, the battlegroup leapt forward. They were gathering speed, preparing their Jump Drives as they were moving to a Jump point. The ships almost moved organically, as one. But they were exposed, their AIs offline so they weren't affected by the Jump Drive's energy. The ships' systems weren't working too well, either.
Then the Val strike came.
Sixteen standard Val shipsmoved from Jump Space with pinpoint accuracy. They fired their plasma cannons at the unsuspecting Benian ships, destroying half and damaging all but four. Only six made it to the Jump point.
The Gesture wasn't among them.
The ship was damaged, one of it's railguns was down, it's AI destroyed. The Jump Drive and two of the six engines were damaged. The ship slowed, it was a sitting duck.

Edge of Detrah
Deadly Gesture, Battlegroup Vintar
1104 Hours, Day 1

Dmitri swore profusely, vilely, and with such appalling force that the air around him clouded with proverbial blue thunderclouds and a new bridge intern leapt away in shock. Next to the Deadly Gesture the Benian destroyer Parlance cracked in half, a massive explosion in its core ripping the plassteel ship along its spine and breaking its back, and a to the other side the destroyer Illustrious slewed to the side, flames streaming from numerous chasms in the hull, atmosphere venting wildly, secondary explosions blasting chunks of the once-mighty fighting vessel into the void.

The Val had caught them with their pants down, and the Benians were paying the price. The comms channels crackled wildly, and all around the bridge echoed the screams of the dying and desperate appeals for aid, followed by barked orders to return to formation and return fire. Dmitri Petrav slapped his own desk comm and bawled to his own weapons batteries "Status report! What do we have, who died, and what can we throw back? Speak up men!" He could hear muted shouts and screams, as well as furious swearing and chatter come back up the pipe. Quickly his teams gauged the extent of the damage to their own special brews of destruction, and the picture wasn't nearly as bleak as he expected from the pasting the Deadly Gesture had recieved. Prow laser cannon operation, one of the railguns offline but reparable in a few minutes, and only ten of the AA guns offline and 8 of the missile batteries.

"Alright men, give those damn Xenos a taste of their own medicine. Plow them under." Dmitri's hands flew over his HUDS, designating the target for their return salvo. The situation was quite frankly bleak. The remaining Benian forces were now severely outnumbered, and the Val were pressing their attack, their killcruisers closing range to shred the remnants of the fleet. Off to the port side the battleship Resolute Glory was alight with bursts of plasma fire, and heavily engaged in a slugfest with three enemy vessels, and next to it a small destroyer blew to shards of plassteel, set upon by another two Val craft at once.

He aimed the batteries ahead of the Deadly Gesture, at a single Val killcruiser that blocked their path. Already some of the other batteries were engaging it, and on a one to one ratio the cruiser should be able to smash through the Val that barred its path. The Benians would be slaughtered if they could not regroup, and Dmitri had every intention of bringing all of his men home safely.

Dmitri uttered a single word, "Fire".

Jeremy came to the door to the roof and could hear more gun shots from the other side. He took a step back and kicked the door open. He immediatly saw the Val and opened fire on full automatic into one of them its body ripping to pieces under the withering barrage of bullets. As the magazine clicked empty and the other Val turned to face him Jeremy threw his rifle to the ground and flicked his shoulder slung shot gun round to the face the creature he aimed at its head and squeezed the trigger...

Twoof the four Val Slayers lay dead, another wounded with no leg. He pulled up his railrifle and fired at the attacker. The other Val was out of ammo and rushing at Jeremy, using his railrifle as a club.

it slowly dawned on Brusaus that there was no other sqaud leader coming. this could only be the working of the great one, ruler of ben! only he could do something that, though it initially seemed bad, would inevitably become good. praise Ben!
"alright, men. sems like the official isn't coming. what with a war coming on, you should be glad you got me. you are all now honorary BenOrts. you will sleep, eat, and die when, and only when, i command you. now follow me!"
the recruits, slightly confused, followed the sargeant as he trotted towards the BenOrt firehawk. it had been put there for when Brusaus healed, so that he could immediately return to the front. it seemed that was sooner than expected. Brusaus got the news from his com that the invasion had begun, and that death was everywhere. the mighty one would make sure to save Brusaus many of the V-things to shower with the holy light of rockets.

The missiles streaked across the aether, and the few dozen missiles struck the shields. They flickered white, then vanished. Their shields were down for now, but would be back in about 30 seconds. They were vulnerable.
The cruiser fired seven plasma lances at the Deadly Gesture, fived aimed at the bottom half (the missile systems), two at the top sensor stations.

Deadly Gesture, Battlegroup Vintar
1106 Hours, Day 1
Captain Barrisa barked orders to her crew as the lances fired, "Activate portside emergency thrusters on my mark, seal off outer decks."
She waited a few moments as the ship's lances locked on her ship, then glowed blue, readying to fire.
"Mark."
The ship slammed to starboard as the lances narrowly missed them. "Fire prow laser, hit the engine reactor, Dmitri. I want them dead for good."

Jeremy aimed at the Val who turned to fire its rifle at him. He squeezed and watched the creatures head explode in a ball of gore as the shotgun round impacted at close range into its head. He was too late to turn and fire his gun again and drew his battle knife from its sheath on his belt. He slid to his right and slashed sideways across the val's stomach. He turned quickly and drove the blade deep through the Vals skull the handle left proturding from the creature as it fell to the ground. Jeremy withdrew the blade and reloaded his guns placing his shotgun over his shoulder and headed back to his squad.

As he rejoined the group escorting the remaining civilains to the sports arena Jeremy heard a crunching sound which he recognised as the sound of an officers boot. "Sir!" He snapped to attention as the leiutenet came up to him.

All other crew, concentrate fire on shield generators and utilize Protocol AA-59. I want them dead and burned, preferably two minutes ago."

The whine of the main power core throbbed through the Gesture, and then the white beam of the laser whipped out of the ship. Dmitri was thankful for the captain's quick nerves, as that cannon would be offline if they had taken the enemy's fire headon. A salvo of missiles followed it slower, as well as pulses of AA fire, in order to insure that the damnable Val savages would be no more than space dust.

Skree motioned for a halt. Something seemed wrong. It was all too quite. He turned to face his men, but then he realised something. One of his men, Jonny as he was called, was missing. He groaned. He then noticed something. In the shadows, he could have sworn he had seen something. A foot that was crawling. He motioned his men to be ready, and then took out his shotgun. He aimed toward the oint where he saw the movement, and instead of turning on a light, he shot, making a huge noise.

Lieutenant gave a small grim smile, "Looks like you may have a ticket off this rock. We got most the civvies in the sports arena, I guess we can sit and wait 'til evac gets here."

The ship was destroyed, but then two dozen fighters descended on the Deadly Gesture, bombarding it's limited shields before they depleted. They would be short work for the AA cannons, but that wasn't the point. They were harassing the Gesture until the mothership arrived to finish them off.
The Benian ships around them were being destroyed whilst the short engagement closed, and the chatter became less and less. Few ships remained, and many enemy cruisers were left.

(Cronne, what shall you do?)

A small being, a Vul, fell down. It twiched a bit, before it was dead. A silence ensued, before the cries of dozens of Vul could be heard echoing through the chamber.
They could only run.

Sergent Nicolas Boenhiem marched briskly towards the armory of the Blood Angel, the sound of his boots lost among the chaos. Around him marines were running too and fro, picking up weapons at the armory and rushing towards their assigned areas.

"This is disgraceful,"he thought to himself,"Here we are in the worst conflict in Benian history and our solders are running around like headless chickens. If I wasn't in a rush right now-"

Nicholas was jolted out of his thoughts as a marine bounced him on the shoulder as he ran by.

"HEY!", The solider cried turning around "Watch iiiiit sir!"

His face paled as he noticed the gleaming insignia on Nicholas' shoulders.

"SIR!", he shouted snapping to attention,"I'M SORRY SIR, I DIDN'T SEE YOU THERE"

Nicolas scowled,he had been prepared to let the soldier be, seeing he had more pressing matters to attend to, but this was ridiculous"
"You didn't see me private? Am I invisible private?"
"Uhh, no sir"
"Are you blind private?"
"No sir"
"Then why private, did could you not see me!"
"I'm sorry sir"
"Did I ask you if you were sorry private?!"
"No sir"
"SPEAK UP!"
"NO SIR"

Nicholas shook his head, he didn't have time nor truly the desire to teach this solider a lesson, he would have to do it after the battle.

"Where are you assigned Jenkins," Nicholas said, calling the name that showed up on his HUD.

"9th company, to a sergeant Boenhiem sir."

A baleful smile crept across Nicholas' face.
"Well then, looks like we will be getting an opportunity to improve your eyesight Jenkins"

Jenkins' paled even further.
"You mean..."He began, afraid to say more lest his words bring his fears into being.
"That's right Jenkins, your in my hands now. Now get a move on! double time to the armory!"

Jenkins handed a slate to Boenhiem and resumed his trek to the armoury, silently cursing his luck.
Nicholas followed at an acceptable pace, silently reading the slate he was given.

Code: Select all
Name: Jack Jenkins
Rank: Private first class
Age: 19
Height/weight: 6' / 200lb
Top skill: Close Quarters Combat
Lowest skill: Military strategy

Nicholas sighed, this kid reminded him of himself at that age.
He crossed the threshold to find Jenkins standing at attention beside two other marines.

"He must have told them I was coming; too bad, I had wanted to surprise em"
"Well then, seeing as Jenkins over there has alerted you all, I'll skip the theatrics. I am sergeant Nicholas Boenhiem and you will be following my direct orders for the remainder of this mission if not your natural lives, is that understood!"

"Sir yes sir!"the marines answered in unison.
"Alright starting from the left of Jenkins, come forward and hand me your slate, one at a time soldiers, I ain't no damn Shepherd"

A gangly man with pronounced laugh lines and just below regulation limits hair, stepped forward and handed Nicholas his slate.
Code: Select all
Name: Michael Verstrovitch
Rank: Private first class
Age: 20
Height/weight: 6'2" / 170lb
Top skill: Explosive Compounds
Lowest skill: Information networks

"You need to get some muscle on you Verstrovitch, and cut that hair"
Verstrovitch responded with a grin and stepped back in line as the last marine stepped forward, handing Nicholas his slate.

Code: Select all
Name: Felix Graham
Rank: Private first class
Age: 19
Height/weight: 6' / 170lb
Top skill: Sharpshooting
Lowest skill: Close Quarters Combat
Note: 90th percentile

Nicholas almost smiled, if this kid was in the 90th percentile, then his lowest would still be at least average.

"Ok then, now that we are all acquainted, grab some rockers and report to the Firehawk listed on your HUD,"Nicholas began"now go!"

The marines saluted and moved off towards the standard weapons rack.
"No, no, no. What are you all doing?"
"Sir,"Jenkins began"I thought you said to grab some rockers..."
"Not them baby toys you idiot"

Nicholas walked past them and hefted a Heavy rocker skyward.
"We're cookin' with fire today boys"

A duo of cheers went up and Graham smirked as they ran towards the lockers for the larger weapons.
Nicholas shook his head, lips curved into a smile despite himself as he lifted his plasma rifle from his personal locker.
They were cooking with fire indeed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicholas buckled his harness and gave the Firehawk pilot the go ahead to launch.
The engines roared to life and the ship shook slightly as it left the hanger floor.
"Hey Verstrovitch, do you think we will make it?"
"I don't know Jenkins, but if those Ven bastards wanna get me, they are gonna get hell first"
"Damn right man"

The firehawk rocketed out into space, the sound of the occupants laughter lost in the void.

OOC: I hope this is ok.
