Azteka in revolt
by Howard Johnston

REPORTS indicate that the city of Azteka, famous for it's rebel sympathizers during the war, has had it's populace take to the streets in protest against the new disarmament policies taken by the Empress. One could here insults such as "Fekanta x regina!" being shouted by the crowds. New National Defense units are mobilizing to put down the unrest.

TO: Empress of Greater Tezdrian
FROM: Foreign Minister's Royal Assistant Jade Zulotz
SUBJECT: Transition

Dear Empress,

We of Vitius believe in democracy, justice, and peace; it seems that if you allow this conflict to grow, your nation has a risk of imploding. We wish, if necessary, for a peaceful transition of government. The government is ruled by and for the People of the nation. Please take peaceful steps to put down this great threat to your nation.

Sincerely,

re: Azteka in revolt
by Howard Johnston

Today, roughly 300 ND agents poured into Azteka, armed with newly furnished tactical vests and helmets. Early reports say that none have died, although a few protesters have been issued. Using handguns of foreign make alongside batons, ND agents have managed to pacify and evacuate Liberation Square; the main hub of protesters. It is expected that the demands will decrease with time. In related news, the Reformed Government of Vitius has called for the Empress to step down. No Imperial statement has been issued.

The Kaiser had been keeping watch on the issue, for a similar revolution was happening in his nation. He immediately ordered for a Telegram to be sent, and had a communications officer tap out the code while he dictated what was to be said.

To: The Empress of Greater Tezdrian
From: His Imperial Majesty The Kaiser of the Imperial Mikeian Empire and her Territories

Dearest Empress, It has come to my attention that you face revolt in your nation. Do not step down, whatever happens, for I shall send both supplies form the Imperial arsenal and a large check from the Imperial Treasury.

I hope you will pull through this and show the might of your Empire,

-Kaiser M.

Azteka-

Operations within Azteka were reaching fever pitch. The city was cut off from the outside world after the Imperial Government shut off the cities electricity, water, and cell phone service. Military checkpoints ringed the city, under constant attack though they were. ND agents had been forced to use their handguns in the early stages of the revolt, which only served to incense the populace. Azteka was a large city of 4 million people, and an estimated half of those were in revolt. The National Defense units admitted failure, and called in the elite squardrisi, the urban riot control of the Union. Decked out in imported body armor, they also sported high-tech machine guns. Wave after wave of protesters was temporarily halted with a hail of bullets, but soon even the squadrisi would not be able to hold them off...

What is the point of trying to keep a city into a country if they do not want to be part of it. I ask you all you have to do is let them be their own city-state. The worst that could happen is that they die out because they do not have enough rescorces. But we urge you just to just let them be there is no reason to keep them in your country because the next thing you'll know they will inspire revolution in other cities.

Two high tech airships hovered over the city, their large turbines lifting them off the ground and keeping themselves steady as the machine guns strafed any open area beneath them. They were decorated with the Imperial colors, and were crewed by the Imperial Sturmtruppen. Wave after wave of the protesters were gunned down, and the Kaiser awaited the need to give the order for a carpet bombing. He was to ensure the lasting of an Empire, whether the citizens liked it or not. Plus, he hoped to attain an ally in the Empress and her loyal subjects.

The man screamed as they took him down, engulfed by the human mass. Azteka was the Empress' worst nightmare, a chaotic, orderless city of over a million people, on Imperial soil. By secret order, the military was dispatched to crush the revolt. A steady stream of military trucks punched through the defenses citizens had erected, launching grenades and teargas into the crowds. One particular soldier, Franklin Krutz, knelt of the bed of a truck, mounting the finest the Imperial Military had at it's disposal: the CK-01 Anti-Population Strategic Missile Platform. Firing into the shouting crowd, th4e missiles exploded with vehement force, knocking people to their knees, vomit pouring from them. Many others were thrown into unconsciousness, while their comrades became drowsy and confused. The now-pacified wave was harshly beaten back, and a few more blocked returned to Imperial control. Life went on.

We condemn your acts against the population of the city. If you do not stop now we will be forced to send an 100,000 man expeditionary force to help defend the citizens. Keep in mind sir my Maritime Empire with its colonies number over 2.6 billion. We urge you to stop or we will have to forcifully help the city secede from Greater Tezdrian.

Reports of the Klentian communique reached the Imperial Government, but were ignored. In the meantime, the Aztekan sister cities of Gyuo and Aatxe has also risen in protest. The upper elechons decided that action would have to be taken. Operation Anvil was conceived, and Phase I put into motion. Vigilante droids swept from the skies, launching hugely destructive payloads into the crowds and obliterating thousands in an instant. The city was given notice that all civilians had exactly one day to lay down their arms, then Phase II would begin.

As far as Clive Estados could tell, not a single human being laid down their arms. "Oh well" he thought, as he dropped 32 unmarked canisters into a shaft, "better luck next time." He pressed a button, and the little canisters and their aerosolized contents flew into the crowd and surrounding buildings, exploding on impact. VX nerve gas was instantly dispersed throughout Azteka, giving protesters a few more seconds of painless life. Then, as one, Aztekan humanity felt like they were being strangled. Their eyes burned and their skin seemed to catch fire as the millions writhed in pain. Within an hour, the city was littered with corpses, and then firebombed into oblivion. Phase II was complete.
