"Climb on it and then get on to that path over there" The officer pointed to the rock above him. "And let's hope that there is no one waiting for us !"
He put his rifle down on the deck of the pier and leaped onto it.

The troops climbed onto the pier and set up a defensive perimeter, just in case.

Nearing the middle, Andrew lifted Maxime onto the pier then climbed up himself.

The officer took a risk and got up and looked into the pathway which was partially overgrown. With houses on one side. He couldn't see anything. Quickly he went down again and signalled the others.

The officer saw a man that was working in the garden. Climbing up a tree to knock out coconuts. The man just smiled at them and got down and got back into the house. "This gesture doesn't help me much" the officer whispered. As slowly as possible he kept moving forward. Suddenly the path gave way. Before them was a normal road with a tram track beside it. There was someone waiting at the stop who just stared at them with a look on his face that expressed utter disbelief.

A Sergeant didnt wait. He pulled up a tranquiliser gun and shot the man in the legg.

The officer checked the time table. While a soldier checked the man. At that moment a young teenage girl in school uniform crossed the street walking for the tram stop.

"It should be here in five minutes. The "normality" of the scene nearly freaks me out." the officer said. "The man is harmless.." the soldier said.

"Indeed.. too normal." Smuts walked to the young girl. "You might just as well go home. There is a revolution going on, younglady. And school shouldn't be open." The young girl, barely older then 14, looked him in the eyes. "Ach.. I'd be bored sick at home."

The officer got his radio man and they called the patrol at the ministry "How's the situation ?"
"Objective has been taken.. situation outside is mad. Can you believe it: people are bloody celebrating !"
The officer shook his head "We told them to stay indoors. What are they thinking ? It isn't over yet ?"
"There are simply too many of them." The response came. "Currently we are sending some boys to Parliament House. But it's more like a victory parade then anything else... We have dismantled some hornets' nests as well."

The officer hung up. A "hornet nest" was a known MilInt hideout. "It's mental." he said. "People are on the street celebrating. Thinking it's all over already..."

"I am thinking about that too. Sweet mother of God." The officer walked up to the girl "You are going home now. Better be bored then dead !" He pushed the young girl into the grass next to the tram stop and pointed to the other side of the road "WALK !".

"Right under the celebrating people, in buildings, looking on from balconies. In trams." They could be anywhere the officer said.
"Sir ! One of his man on the tram track signalled. "A tram" There were actually two trams. Another one appeared from the other side. Much to their surprise they saw an air force officer come out of the tram and walk towards the blocks of flats on the other side of the street. He looked only briefly at them and nodded.

"Yes.. it's shocking isn't it ?" his officer commented. The air force officer walked up to them. They noticed that his holster was open and that he didn't have a gun. He looked at the girl. "You are going home with me !" he said. The young girl sighed and walked up to him. "My granddaughter." he said to the men and nodded before walking off.

"Me too. It's almost creepy." the officer said. He held his hand out while the tram approached signalling them to stop. The tram did stop and was nearly empty. The engineer had a surprised and shocked look on his face "Don't shoot." he whispered.

He didn't protest when a group of troops walked in and occupied the benches. "Keep the boy away from the windows at all costs." The officer said to Andrews.

He then turned back to him.

" The tram is bigger than I expected, we can get them all on. "

More men came unto the tram until it was crowded. "Special service" the officer grinned trying to lighten up the atmosphere. His eyes showed that he was concerned with the situation. He took up position close to the engineer. "Ministry of Defence" he said to him.

The tram drove through suburbs and other parts of the city as if there was nothing going on. With the exception that it didn't stop. The atmosphere was weird. When they approached the inner city they went into a tunnel. Yet again.. nothing happened. They came out in the Old City. The atmosphere was peculiar as it was difficult for the tram to get through. The streets were packed with people. On every balconies there were flags and people were openly celebrating MilInt's apparent demise.

A soldier looked out of the window of the tram, and shook his head.

" If we do not do something, something bad will happen. " he said.
