"And let us hope to not be the hunted." answered Ryan, grinning as he also held up his glass.

At the house, Maxime was finally getting up, feeling even more tired than before, normally having slept a maximal of nine hours a night, instead of twelve.

The Major drank his whiskey and smiled. "Let's hope that you will indeed not become the hunted..."

At the house Sarah was walking into the room while Maxime was waking up. "Morning sleepyhead.. I hope you slept well ? Come.. I'll make your bath."

"Indeed, or we might need to break open the heavy artillery..." he said.

Maxime just nodded, still half asleep as he followed Sarah.

"Let's just hope it won't be needed. I have some good news too... The Cape has surrendered. Here on the mainland not a single region is still in rebellion. Unconditional surrender."

Sarah took him downstairs to the baths where she told him how it worked. "First you take a shower and soap yourself in properly. And after you washed it all off you can take a bath and relax while I make your breakfast." The baths were a big communal bath that was sunk into the wooden floor that offered a view into the side garden and up to the mountains as the blinds had been pulled up, the warm water was filtered and came from a hot spring.. several miles away.

"With or without a bullet of encouragement to the head? Or was it made by diplomacy?" asked Andrews.

Maxime simply nodded, taking a quick shower and applying soap to his body, then relaxing in the half full bath of slightly warm water, having found most of the options too warm for his liking.

"Well .. the devastating defeats of rebel forces at Rapperwil, here at Heuvel and Kleindorp, the blockade by 2nd Fleet, the landing of Marine Forces at the Cape itself, the Army making steady progress down the main motorway all contributed to the rapid collapse of the rebellion. Not just that.. a lot of people were not willing to find to defend 5 percent of the population from losing their... human capital." The Major said.

Sarah waited in the kitchen. Making him a breakfast of some rice and fried banana. She also took a more sweet tea for him.

"Are the possible Rebel forces still operating or have they been completely destroyed? Because depending on which, we should either fortify ourselves or get a time to relax." asked Andrews.

At the house, Maxime quickly finished his bath, drying himself and putting his clothes back on and emptying the bath at the same time by pulling the plug. Then, after a quick ten seconds of looking around, he found the kitchen.

"It was an unconditional surrender but we will remain on full alert for the coming fortnight and I suggest that your boys do the same thing. There may not be an official Rebel army anymore, lone wolfs or groups of like-minded individuals can continue to cause trouble. "

"Hey there." Sarah said. "How did you like the bath ?" She put his breakfast and some tea before him.

"Don't worry, they'll be on alert anyway. At night they'll have to do shifts, we'll be running a 24/7 system." he answered.

At the house, Maxime sat down at the table and began to eat some of his breakfast.

"It was nice, thanks." he answered, quickly.

"Good. Well let's hope it won't be necessary. It may be strange to hear this from a soldier but ... I wish that this mess was over. Most people are tired of the insecurity and the instability. All they want is some peace and quiet." The Major walked up to the cabinet. "Another one ?"

"Good to hear that. Are you feeling a bit at home here now ?" she said while she checked his hand. "Ah that's going quick now.. it's almost healed again."

"Well, let's face it, in order to get peace and quiet, people like us are needed. A nation can't rest with no army. Yeah, sure." said Andrews to the Major, passing to him his glass.

"Yeah, a bit at home, still very warm. My hand still hurts a tiny bit." said Maxime, rubbing the plaster.

"And that's we have to stand on guard.. even when the others are laying on the beach or working in the fields.. what I wouldn't give for the first one at the moment... I haven't had leave for 3 months now. The same goes for my men." The Major poured some more whiskey into the glasses.

"Ah that should be alright. Maybe you should ask Pik whether he can take you to the National Park.... there is a river with waterfalls in that area and it is safe for swimming." Sarah said. "He can take new plasters with him so you don't need to worry about getting your hand wet."

"We are probably going to have our leave in around two months, due to the heightened security threats in Globexanter we've been on edge for quite a while, the last time I had a leave over four days was over eight months ago..." answered Andrews.

"Would they recall you back to Globexanter or would they offer you to have your leave here in the country ? After all.. when things will quiet down your job here would be done or... ? "

"Well, when the Leave starts I can either opt to keep on 'working' for a bit more, that would increase my final leave time. But then I am permitted to stay in any Nation Globexanter has a peculiar Alliance or Treaty with, when no VISAs are required. So yeah, I could get up to a year of leave or less due to my past spent small leaves." he answered.

"So.. I think that you and your son will be lazying around on the beach then. And who could blame you.. But I heard some rumours and correct me if I am wrong, but this rumour has been circulating here in the region that they were given you some high up position somewhere. But what.. I wouldn't know. You have the odd old woman saying here that they would you King if the King died. Or Prime Minister or god knows what.."

"Even I have my limits, and me becoming King? Yeah right. I was born in a military family, not some posh noblesse related family. Don't be too sure about the beach part, we're already pretty warm as it is." he said, chuckling.

"The old ladies here... they are the same as in Globexanter I trust ? Gossip. You hear those things when you're in the shop. Well you have met the future Royal Family. What did you think of them ? Do they seem posh to you ?"

"I've seen more posh then them, but could you seriously see me in a suit for the rest of my life doing utterly nothing? They are all right, a well united family indeed. Doesn't the 'noblesse' run to the eldest son at the death of the King here, by any chance?"

"No... if the King would die it would be his wife or the oldest child to take over. In both cases there would be a Queen. This was one of the first nations to get rid of Salic Law for what I know. Well.. if they would give you the high-end job you would end up in a suit anyway.. or in a uniform."

"Yeah, that's going to happen. I've met the P.M. of Globexanter at a public addressing once, he was literally just wearing jeans and a simple tee-shirt. It was televised live to Globexanter, that is one of the reasons why he was voted in: he is laid back and knows how to relax and fit in with the Public." said Andrews.

"Whereas our Prime Minister... well you have met him. He is a different man. And so is the King. Surely.. Den Uyl has been seen in casual clothes as well but that was during his early years. The King.... well I don't think he even has casual clothes."

"That is why they retire so early, in a hot suit for the duration of their lives in a stuffed up office while freeting about work. Excellent for the physical and mental health..." said Andrews.

At the house, having finished his meal, Maxime looked at Sarah.

"So, where has my dad gone to now?" he asked.

"People here generally retire at the age of 70. Apart from military personnel and those involved in manual labour. They go much earlier.. in their 50s. But yes.. those in office generally don't take the time to relax. If they are not working their heads still are." The Major said. "For me.. retirement would be coming up in 5 years unless I would end up working as a Staff Officer."

"Your dad just cleared some caves out." Pik said who had put his paperwork on the table. "He probably would be coming home soon or he is having a chat with some of the officers."

"The last option would mostly also require sitting in a hot room, behind a desk. What Govts need to commence is Staff Officers closer to the action, and not all the way in their Capital. Apart from that, any major news?" asked Andrews.

"All right, what time did I wake up last night at?" asked Maxime.
