Rioting in New Alabasta

Earlier today, in response to news that the government of New Alabasta was moving to ban all opposition parties, citizens of the capital Alubarna erupted into the streets to protest the rash and undemocratic methods of the newly formed government. The leader of the country, General Neylo Mydar responded to this incident by declaring martial law in the capital. Despite constant media blackout, citizens continued to attack government offices and major points of the capital's infrastructure. With no other choices open, the New Revolutionary Guard forces were dispatched to put down the riots, using as little force as possible. After hours of heavy attacks by armed civilians, it was determined that the only course of action was to brutally suppress the rioter through any means necessary. By 9 P.M., tanks and other armored vehicles were seen rolling into the city, backed by heavily armed infantry. The government announced that most of the rioting had been ended, but denied reports of massive casualties on the side of the civilians, and that the army had not been provoked into using such brutal methods. Media outlets inside the country have been unresponsive to outside contact, and foreign journalists are being turned away from the borders.

Dear Mr. Mydar,

It has come to the attention of the Holy Empress that you have ordered a heavy strike against the civil liberties of people of your nation. True, violent rioting cannot be stopped with a show of arms. However, it is another thing to brutally supress those protests with more violence. It gives of a feeling of tyranny and unwarranted government oppression.

Futhermore, due to the unusual media blackout within your nation and the denial of foreign reporters from broadcasting the assumed warfare, it seems as if your military has instigated a massacre of New Alabasta citizens. As proposed by High Command of the Imperial Military AND Ministry of Civil Rights, the Holy Empress of the Holy Imperial Federation of the Empire of Symphonia therefore demands that New Alabasta open its borders and allow foreign coverage of the fighting.

Atrocities against human beings will not be overlooked by the international community. Failure to comply these demands will result in an subsequent police action by the Imperial Federation.

While many here appreciate the actions your government takes to protect its people, threatening the government of my nation is very ill advised. The Sultanate of New Alabasta is a relatively unstable nation, and any military action against it would only further destabilize this region of the world and almost certainly end any hope of a sound civil nation. I am doing what i see fit to keep this proud land together, and if that requires some force, so be it. As for journalism, I cannot afford to have members of foreign media spin the truth about what is going on here and risk meddling by ignorant governments who have no idea the difficulties that my people have endured to see a unified nation.
