To Lord Adoth von Schillsky,
I do not think my 24 year old cousin is "too old," being that she is only 4 years older than me. She has actually taken some offense to this, and prefers that a candidate not from your nation signs an application. I have decided to grant her request, for the sake of her honor. And your inquiries into our inheritance laws have given my dear cousin the impression that you or any of your candidates would be insensible towards her. She is not just looking for a man that could do good for her country, but also a man that will love her as if she was not a piece of jewelry.
SIncerely,
Emperor Arathor I

To My Esteemed Quendi Relative, Princess-Regent Aurelia Alcedina,
I must apologize, as his questions were too...forward and blunt for the liking of my cousin. However, since you have made it clear that such things are necessary, I will inform you of the current situation, which will be open for all other potential suitors to see:
My dearest cousin, Lady Julianne Alstead, has been searching for a husband for five years now. Unfortunately, no man has ever been willing to commit (a scandal which has very much shamed my cousin's honor), and so, after years of searching, she has asked me to help her find a suitable husband, one who will care for her. I have obliged. When her father dies, she will become the new (honorary) Grand Duchess of Ostrega, with lands of her own, which she will share with whomever marries her. The suitor will then become (Honorary) Grand Duke of Ostrega, a very powerful position, despite their honorary function. Her dowry is set to 500,000 Osthian Florins, a great price for an important woman of noble blood. And now, Julianne is scolding me for not putting in her characterist traits, something I was too stressed to care about until she brought it up.
Lady Julianne Alstead is a kind woman, dedicated to charity, humble, and is also quite...diplomatic. She will listen to anyone, will not interrupt. Why, she is the perfect image of a perfect woman, with manners and all. So I ask that if anyone does not wish her for love, as well as politics, then they must not send in an application. She is looking for someone to love her, not adorn her with jewels and neglect her like some "pretty little thing."
Sincerely,
Emperor Arathor I

Revered grandson,
Love. A tricky business is it not? Treasured by common man as the very purpose of life and an emotion above and beyond any other I, as romantic at heart, cannot help but admire the notion of such a near divine emotion that purifies the people struck by it. However I am not at all convinced that love is something for people in our position.
While I have had the pleasure of living in a marriage filled with love it was never a criteria for my mother when she decided to marry me to your grandfather. It was neither love at first sight although I always had an amicable relationship with Aron. But with work and effort it eventually grow to become true love. Not like you see in movies I must admit but I have severe doubt that such love exist outside the minds of delusional teenage girls. But love none the less.
While I am sure you do not want to know this about your parents you must also accept the fact that the day they first meet was the day they was married. While I don't doubt that their marriage to developed in a positive direction it was once again irrelevant to me and your uncle when we, on your father's behalf, sought Tatiana's hand in marriage.
As such I must conclude that there is a price to be paid for being a prince. We must except that our love lives are to be adjusted to our political ones. As such while I hope you cousin will love her husband and he will love her she must accept the fact that it is by no means to be taken for granted.
Your grandmother
