Yeah, you keep proving that you know absolutely nothing about modern, real-world military tactics, unless you get all of your strategy from Command and Conquer or Starcraft.

Have fun waging war on Othylite soil then. My nation is entirely urban sprawl. The few places that resemble rural areas are just parks that are too small for any decent maneuvering. There's a mountain that's not covered over, but it's not like that's useful for fighting either.

My military is geared for urban warfare and highly trained in small-unit tactics, door-to-door combat and close-quarters battle. I never said I'd avoid urban warfare, quite the contrary, my military would be decimated in open combat on a plain or field since they lack any heavy firepower (except for their Lyran LY4s and LY7s) on the ground, which means I'd focus more on urban combat, long-range bombardment and UW.

So yeah. My 'nation' one giant city, since it's all cyberpunk inspired and that stuff. Urban warfare is kinda big thing here, since the military/private contractors/police are constantly engaged in it.

Anyone else ever wonder what a ground campaign on Coruscant would have been like?

Sounds like Magna Polis, my capitol city.

My military works closely with air support, and specializes in urban warfare (Though they have the firepower to kick ass outside of cities.) Somewhat similarly to the US, any non-important building with hostiles using it is leveled by a tank or aircraft.

Urban centers are very important in any war, because he who controls the populace ultimately controls the country. Theoretically, you can defeat a country by taking over their larger cities, crippling their economy, production, supplies, and manpower to the point where the rest of the country will be a pushover.

One thing you do not want to come across are GWO troops in a snowy urban setting. They will murder you three times over.

Urban warfare is a bitch about infantry.

I generally avoid urban warfare, an simply focus on stuff that has actual strategical importance in a non-total war.

Forgive me but isnt urban warfare almost unavoidable in this day and age? I apologize if i seem ignorant i just go by what i read and see.

I did once, impossible. The whole planet is a little impossible, but a war there would be even more impossible. You'd probably just capture the Senate building and claim ownership, anyone still around would have to come to you.

Anyway, Othyl depends on an entirely private sector military, directed by national interests. As such hardware is the top of the line, absolute best stuff we can make or buy, usually we buy large hardware from other nations and modify it for our needs while small arms are manufactured in Othyl. Armor supported infantry are primary fixtures of Othylite military culture, superbly qualified in urban tactics as well, since small scale engagements between competing corporations are not uncommon, it gives everyone lots of time to practice. Increasingly, unmanned combat vehicles are being used wherever practical.

from age 20-24 the Confederacy requires all people to work for the Government in some aspect. Our standing army is rather swiss in its style, with every able bodied person required to be in the reserves until they turn 50. Also every member of the reserve is required to keep his or her rilfe ready to go at a moments notice. We are not a very big country (population wise, we've got lotsa land) so we used to work on simply denying the enemy battle and hit and run tactics. With advances in modern warfare we are working on one of those "future soldier" programs that both the US, Russia and Germany (EU) are working on, in fact our entire budget for Armor has gone to R&D for future mobile infantry
