Due to the uselessness of a massive military for Great Valencia, we have decided to release 8 million soldiers into civilian life, as well as decommission nearly 3,200 ships. The Marines, Navy and Air Force were the only branches hit by these mass discharges. The stats, old and new, shall follow:
Navy: 19 million sailors, 9656 ships NEW NUMBERS: 16 million sailors, 6,356 ships
Marines: 9 million NEW: 7 million
Air Force: 6 million pilots NEW: 4 million pilots (No planes scrapped)
These massive cuts to our military will allow more money to be put into civilian affairs. Cutting the Navy was vital to our resources, as over 1 million tons of metal has been returned to our drydocks for the construction of the newer Imperial Class carriers, and the 44 NAC-95 aircraft carriers will be decommissioned by 2014.
As very rarely any other Navy has over 1,000 ships, we have decided that 6,000 was fair enough for remain dominant on the seas.
Meanwhile;
The mandatory draft at age 17 for males has been abolished. Now, Great Valencia's military is completely voluntary. Although the majority of males would prefer to be drafted at age 17 regardless of profession, the government has decided to raise the bar and require an education to join. Although the mandatory working age of 8 will not be changed yet, the educational standards set by the military can be achieved by going through Military School*, which is provided by the government to anybody willing to join. There are also standards set for each branch of the military:
Marines:
Maximum Height: 8'4
Max. Weight: 264 Pounds
Navy:
Max Height: 7'9
Max. Weight: 315 pounds
Neulizi:
Max Height: 7'4
Max. Weight: 253 pounds
VRSR:
Max. Height: 7'7
Max. Weight: 255 pounds
Air Force:
Max. Height: 6'11
Max. Weight: 215 pounds
NOTE: The Army was disbanded in 2009 to free up 13 million soldiers from our military.
*Military school in Great Valencia is a brand new concept. When a man joins up for the military, he will have little to no military experience, depending on profession. Military school is a 5 year schooling course that every male must go through to be up to standards. During this time, the student lives on a military training base, and has no civilian profession. With this, each student is paid 150 Lasiks a week on his first year, and every year the pay raises 150 Lasiks. When a student graduates, he moves on to training for the branch he wishes to join.
