Empress Catherine II of course was not pleased. She had only ruled for barely a year, and had already faced a war with Syvorji, and a rebellion by some general claiming ties with one of the previous rulers. The Empress informed the Kaiser of Der Kaiser Mikey III that under her reign, greater stability is beginning to settle in Royal Calathonia, and also that, regardless of gender, any ruler could become great....

To: Empress Catherine II
From: His Imperial Majesty Kaiser Michael-St. John Kenneth-James Royle-Auguste Von Hohenzollern XVIII, Emperor of the Prussian Catholic Imperial Commonwealth, King of Prussia, Duke of Bohemia, Crown Prince of Saxony, Prince Regent of Bavaria, protector of Catholicism, Supreme Commander of the Army, Supreme Admiral of the Royal Navy, Commander of the Royal Marines, and Commander of the Royal Airforce.
Dearest Catherine,
It is under my understanding that my cousin wishes to ignite conflict between our two nations. It is with understanding of your position that I write to try and assure you that I am trying to avoid such conflict. You must understand, for generations, the throne of my glorious Reich has remained under a masculine hand, and as such, any changes in the world reflect upon our stern opposition to changing our wonderful traditions.
I will try and work things out with our mutual 'friend' the Duke, and look forward to your immediate arrival to the Reichstag for a meeting to decide the outcome of your nation and our traditions
With the utmost hope of the compromise,
-K.M.

The Empress of course, wanted to maintain her hold on the throne. As such, she accepted the invitation to the meeting, and promptly got on the official state plane to head to Der Kaiser Mikey.

Reichstag Building, out front
The Kaiser stood along with his escort of S.S. Guards, on the front steps of the Capitol building. The nobles around him were rather eager to meet a foreign official (This was the first diplomatic visit since the Great Civil war). The line of Sturmtruppen in dress uniforms waited in a line, making a little tunnel walkway with their rifles and swords held out. A band in the background was playing the National Anthem as the Royal Car of the Empress stopped in front of the soldier bordered navy blue and gold carpet.

The Kaiser asked, raising an eyebrow as the Duke scowled their way.

The Empress glanced angrily at the Duke, and then turned, with a false smile on her face, to the Kaiser, saying "Yes, my trip was...indeed bearable. But I feel rigors of...sadness and anger, due to recent events. The Kaiser noticed her false smile, and he too understood the need to remain calm in diplomatic situations to retain respect and reverence. "I shall try and sort through this mess with as little pain on your part as possible..." He led her to the Imperial seat, where he seated her in the seat at his right, the Arch Bishop on his left, and the Duke sitting next to the Empress. He continued to sit there with an angry look on his face. The Kaiser waited for the rest of the nobles to file in, then simply stood and announced. "A warm welcome to our friend and my fellow Monarch, Empress Catherine II of Royal Calathonia!"

The Empress then got into a fake smile, taking the Kaisers advice. She then said "Now, My Lords and Ladies, I must object to what the Duke has told you. For one thing, let me make firm that I will retain absolute power in my nation, so those "rallies" of people trying to gain a vote are nonsense. And second, even if I am a female monarch, I can still prove to you, my Lords, that I can rule my nation with a firm, but just and fair, hand. I can be just like all the male Emperors and Kings out there. I say that I am not inciting rebellion, but only leading my people to greatness and fair justice." She then sat down, hoping to have a effect in the crowd.

A few of the men and women assembled applauded, giving the Kaiser confidence that a compromise could be reached. The Duke, however interjected. "And what of our nation, your Majesty?" He asked the Kaiser, "I hear rumors that women are requesting a female leader! What would become of the military?"
The Kaiser's ears perked up, and he stood up. "What? I assure you, our traditions will not suffer. I vow that the line will always stay the same, eldest son shall be the Kaiser." He explained.
"And you admit that you would stop at nothing to prevent a female form taking your throne." The Duke urged on.
"I swear by my life and by my title-" The Kaiser stopped in mid sentence, realizing he had fallen into a trap. "A brief recess, everyone vacate the premises!" He barked, looking Directly at the Empress. When the room was empty save for them, he shook his head. "What shall I do? I face rebellion if I do not do something..."

The Empress said "You must rule by your own will, your own beliefs. I myself have just recently faced a rebellion in my nation, and I crushed it with overwhelming force. If civil war breaks out in your nation, I will support you. You have my word." She then waited for his response.

The Kaiser looked her straight in the eye, pointing to the sword that hung over his chair. "That was what I was forced to do last time we had a civil war. I had to execute my own brother in order to maintain order. I had to kill six million men and women for being communists. This would be different, and the previous was worse enough. Brother against brother! It would devastate a state whose existence depends on unity under one power."
He realized he had raised his voice, so he sat down to calm himself. "I can't afford to deploy troops, for we're always at war."

The Empress nodded "I have also faced a situation, although not as worse as you. I had to execute, imprison, or exile more then twenty thousand rebels, plus three of my government officials, all for treason. I also had the town where the rebellion originated destroyed as well. It was horrible, but had to be done. I will still provide you support, if you need to."

The Kaiser rose to his feet, and held out his hand. "I have thought on it, and though you have your faults, you are no less a ruler than I am. I shall recognize you as an equal, and I think the people will as well if you show them you are not an ignorant Princess, but a wise Empress to be revered."

He squeezed the trigger, but not before the Kaiser threw himself in front of the bullet, the red hot bolt hitting him in the chest. No sooner had he hit the ground, when he felt somebody hovering over him. He tried to get up, but felt too weak, so he rolled onto his stomach, using all his strength to push himself up. He almost made it, but fell onto his face and rolled down the stairs to the main floor, laying there, unconcious and dying.

The Empress nearly cried. She, however, maintained self-control and directed the medics to his location. She prayed to God, to Jesus, and the Virgin Mary that the Kaiser would survive, and would live on. She prayed God to bless him and to admit him into Heaven, if he did die..

The ArchDuke of Prussia, the Kaisers eldest son, rushed to the Empress' side. "Come, we must go to the Imperial Palace. It is not safe here." He tried to remain calm, but found himself praying as well, clutching his fathers cold hand. The work of the paramedics seemed to be working, and the Kaiser's eyes opened.
"Catherine..." He rasped, removing two rings from his fingers. "I pronounce you Duchess of Prussia, and in command until my sons Coronation." He pressed one of the rings in her hand, and then gave the other to his son, naming him Prince Regent until coronation. Then, with a grin on his face, he gently drifted off into nothingness, passing away with elegance and grace, the red pool looking like an eternal cloak around his Imperial Majesty's corpse.
