Ling nervously paced the polished floor of her bedchambers. She had been planning a Greater Tezdriani-Unilisian conference for months to strengthen the bonds between the two nations. She had not been so anxious, but then a message arrived carrying news. Eve (a close friend of Ling's) had not been able to attend. Her daughter, Enex, was attending instead. Ling did not like new people. She was a very anti-social person, and rarely trusted new people, regardless of where they came from. She was terrified that she and her nation would not meet the Unilisian's approval. Although she would never admit it, she held every nation including her own to the Unilisian standard. She hoped she met Enex's approval.

The transit from Umbria to Venko was quiet, which did nothing to settle Enex' nerves. Greater Tezdrian was a long time ally of Imperium, and to visit it was a great honor. But she preferred military work before diplomacy, and as she stepped down from the platform in an appropriate "uniform" of sorts, the dark silk grew cold against her flesh but did little to annoy her. Cold was a Unilisian specialty.

"Rain, damn." She whispered to herself, without showing the annoyance. Her skin was paler than usual, deathly gray, and her voluptuous yet muscular frame only cemented the idea of an inhuman entity approaching the Tezdriani limousine. Stepping inside, the guards seemed to wait a few more seconds before getting in and driving to the Imperial Palace. She didn't bring the Blood Guard; Her body was more dangerous than any bullet.

Ling saw the limousine pull into the wide coral drive. She hurriedly threw on a burgundy silk dress with wolf fur trim. She rushed out the door, down the steps, and collected herself before stepping outside. A sudden thunderstorm caught the city and had it in it's grip; so she carried an umbrella. She went up the the limo, and opened Enex's door before handing her an umbrella. "Enex, my dear, so nice to meet you."

"Quite alright dear, quite alright." She led Enex down the massive ornate hallway, into a small, well appointed room. Ling seated herself in a comfortable wing backed chair, and motioned to a small couch across from her "Please sit." A butler walked into the room, bearing vodka, a large wine glass, and spring water. "Refreshments?" asked Ling, taking the bottle of vodka and pouring over half the bottle into the glass. She took a long pull.

"No thank you madam, I had a small meal earlier." She studied the way Ling spoke and lived, every movement, every flicker of the eye, the small things that defined the woman. Of course, she did it in a manner hiding the awkwardness.

"May I inquire as to why you have opted for my visit ?"

"To speak of the Unification, and to show you around Venko." She was unnerved by this young woman, Enex seemed to be studying her closely. "So, my informants tell me that your nation is considering a legal union with the nation of New Azura. You are aware that this is inconsistent with the earlier unification?"

"Lack of sufficient political connections with Greater Tezdrian, over a period of time, had prompted a different set of possibilities. New Azura and Unilisia as de facto unified, but officially are separate on the world stage. Unification with anyone, at the moment, is unlikely." A lock of hair fell out of place, and with a snip Enex cut it off, watching it cascade down into her lap. She grabbed it and slid it onto her person, then looked back up at Ling.

"Society in the Imperial Union is very feudalistic. Most of the nation works as a labor force of the plantation owners. The plantation owners allow them to sharecrop in return for the citizens help in defending his land when the need should arise. 99.9% of the populace are registered with the Imperial Fascist Coalition, and all major businesses are nationalized. A small segment of the populace work as booksellers, carpenters, and what-have-you. The slave trade is our major economic booster, and everyone owns at least one."

"Hmm.... that does sound a tad feudal. And you sure do account for the castles." She motioned around her with a few points of her finger in a whirl.

Ling thought for a moment. "How is life in Unilisia? The popular conception is that it is an arctic wasteland, devoid of all life except for a few huddling towns. Is this true?"
