A day of terror (MT open)

The crowded monorail stunk of exotic foods and perfumes. Outside the weather was grey and wet the first rain for a week had come sudden and loudly. The thunderstorm had kept police Sgt. Harrison up until one in the morning last night. He was in no mood for the pointless antics of the city. He drifted in and out of sleep in his seat near the door. Out side the window was a fifty foot drop from the elevated monorail to the street below. Glass pillars of the free market lined the dirty streets. Some of these towers disappeared into the low clouds. The largest was the Min-x offices a massive tapering spear of glass and steel. One of the most powerful people in the UD1 the CEO was the richest man in the city and a dangerous one to deal with.

Harrison closed his eyes and drifted into dreamland. His solace was broken by the bickering of a pair of young men. One wore a dark hood and ragged jeans while the other wore a green T and slacks. The hooded one spoke "Man I didn't take nothing" a thick latino accent was apparent. The other spoke "You took my freaking ID". The man in the T pushed the hooded individual. Harrison stood up and spoke "Is there a problem". Before the two could reply a low rumble shook the monorail. "What was that" screams and panic rained supreme in the cramped rail car. Harrison moved to the back of the car towards the window.

From the top floor of the Min-x building massive flames licked at the sky. Waterfalls of paneling and burning debris showered the street below. Before any one could have escaped the doomed structure another fireball mushroomed from the fifth floor. Heat rushed across the air and scorched those close enough to hear the blast. Screeches emanated from the support beams of the tower. The two blasts were to much. The tower begun to lean further and further to it's right. As a final act of defiance the tower let out a rumble like thunder as it fell to the earth.

Harrison looked through a smaller window. "NO NO!" it was to late for anybody. A large cargo plane screamed towards the I-68 overpass. Hundreds of cars moved unknowingly of the fate about to befall their drivers. The plane slammed into the overpass at as 30 degree angle. The nose crumpled and shattered. The passenger cabin flipped along the overpass flattening a schoolbus and several dozen cars. The jet fuel ignited and spread across the overpass in arches of flame.

"A day of terror has befallen the port city Diamonto. Over 49,000 were confirmed dead in the first day. The only way for aid to get to the survivors has been blocked by the wreckage. Clean water is no longer flowing and the sewers are flooding the streets. Power has been rationed to hospitals and police stations. If those people are to survive we need foreign aid.

The C-130s barged onto the runway. Each carried 15 peacekeepers armed with ACRs and wearing bright blue helmets and armor to stand out from regular troops. Each of them shouldered their assault rifle and began unloading care packages. Other C-130s performed emergency airdrops above the hardest hit placed.

"Come on get down the hill"
The long line of camouflage clad men moved slowly into the foggy valley that held Port Diamonto. They moved carefully trying to avoid the sharp slopes of the descent. Above them the blades of helicopters could barely be made out in the blanket of moisture. Air transport was proving more difficult than expected. Visibility was at 15% and the pillars of fire that were the sky scrapers. The situation was growing worse by the hour.

The first day of revelation, Operation Forlorn hope
Three F-16's roared over the city at the break of dawn. The fog had begun to clear that morning revealing a horrible truth. The levies offering solace from the salty waters of the pacific had been destroyed. The water had washed across the city in deadly ten foot tall waves. At the mouth of the harbor a docked cargo ship had been carried into Diamonto University. The nearest working hospital was twenty miles north through the mountains. The UD government had a new plan. Planes would drop long strips of chain into the city. Specialized vehicles would be used as trains to move the elderly and children out of the city. All forces foreign and local were to assist in this operation. Chinooks had been flying aid drops all night. However another problem had arisen. Power lines had fallen into the water and made it impossible for ground forces to move in.

The Spredronians had to think of something, and fast. Ground forces couldn't move in because of a power line into the water.

So, they came up with an idea. A plan that they probably should have thought of in the first place.

Aboard the IBS Titania

Yet another haphazardly constructed deployment of men had placed the IBHS Titanian and her sister ship, the IBHS Luxitania in a volatile location. It had recently returned to it's station in Adriatica from Patria, where it aided in curing the Anthrax outbreak. A number of helicopters were lifted onto the deck and loaded with items such as tents, non-perishable food, first aid kits, etc by members of the Beringian Guardian Corps. Although they hoped they wouldn't need them, the guardsmen loaded their rifles slinging them behind their backs.

The purring of the Snow Owl helicopter's engine could be heard and soon was accompanied by the whirring of it's rotors. Their mission was to ferry those in need of medical attention to the ships and get those that didn't, out of the city. The pilots were given the signal and simultaneously the helicopters lifted off of the helipad and sped off toward Port Diamonto. Joined by the military grade Snow Owls the sixteen helicopters crept further and further to the city. Having left the South Bering Sea on such short notice the pilots had no set landing zone and they had a severely limited amount of choices.
