U.S.S Freedom
Sovereign Class Starship
The Void
25th November 2400

Captain Robin Sinclair, the Trillian CO of the Starship Freedom, sat in her quarters, sat on the edge of her viewport, on a ledge that was just wide enough for a humanoid to sit on. Resting her head against the edge of the window she flickered over the page in her book, trying to distract herself from the view outside. Even in the High-tech age of Computerized everything, Robin still preferred the good-old-fashioned hardback. All too soon however she couldn't avoid looking out the viewport.

Total Darkness.

The Void as it had been called by Starfleet was more commonly referred to as 'The Night' by the Captain and crew of the Freedom was a vast area of space some several hundred Light-years across and deep completely devoid of stars. To make matters worse there was some strange form of radiation that prevented light from stars outside the void from being seen within. So naturally it caught the attention of Starfleet and the Freedom was dispatched to investigate.

Looking out into the darkness Robyn realized one thing; she was inconsolably lonely.

She had taken a shuttle out the day before, thinking it would give her something to concentrate on. But looking back at her ship, she could barely see it despite being only a short distance away. The only light coming from the viewport lights, the ships running light which illuminated it's name and registry, and of course the warp nacelles, shining bright in the darkness. She took a holopicture of this and intended to get it printed when they got home. Despite this, it still depressed her. And it wasn't just her of course; the entire crew was being affected.

Robyn jerked forward as her Combadge chirped. She plucked it from the armless purple top she was wearing and tapped it.

"Sinclair"

"Captain, We're receiving a transmission from the Starship Soulwolf" Commander Ravencroft reported over the Comm.

Robyn smiled slightly.
"Pipe it through"

Robyn stood up and walked across her room towards the desk on the far side, away from the window. Tearing her eyes away from the disconcerting night, she reached forward and activated the console, forcing a smile.

"Tom"

"Robyn Sinclair" Captain Thomas Hunter replied as his visage appeared on the viewer "Having fun out there?"

"I wish" Robyn muttered.

"Your only out there for another few weeks" Hunter assured her "They've commissioned the Hawking to come out and relieve you on-station, you'll be home by Christmas"

"Good to hear" Robyn smiled "That'll cheer up my crew no end"

"I'm glad" Hunter replied "I'm looking forw..."

Robyn frowned as the communication flickered and disappeared, followed shortly after by the lights in her quarters. Across the ship similar events were taking place, all systems powered down, plunging the interior of the ship into darkness and deactivating all systems, including the Warp Core which completely shut down. On the outside the remaining lights faded, leaving the ship totally dark in the void.

"I know I wanted excitement" Robyn muttered as she groped around in the dark to find a light "But this is not what I had in mind..."

This is not meant to be a Space-Combat thread. Please note that the nature of the Void will be the same to any ship that enters it, we're all in the same boat. Also, the thing that has disabled the Freedom will happen to your ships when you approach the same area as the Freedom and is an integral part of the storyline I have planned. Beyond that it's pretty open.

The IBN Endian cruised steadily through space. Commander Kong Liang laid on his bed, inside his room. He thinks about his mission to explore the void. If he found something of use or something else of high importance his position as Captain would be secure. “Guo qing wen yi tian bao( now entering void space)”, a voice came over the intercom, snapping him out of his daze. He sat up and walked over to his window. “Kian suo (so much blackness”, he says to himself. The IBN Endian continues on its course then the engines suddenly stop. All lights shut down. “Kai tian bu shuo gi nin er ren( Great something has gone wrong already)”, Kong says and starts looking for a flashlight.

Da Romas
Rifter-Class Frigate
The Void

“You’re an ass, you know that?” Taki's tone was humorous, and he had the beginnings of a smile on his face. “I meant to trip over that cable.”

“Oh sure”, responded his companion and longtime best friend. “Just like you meant to pie the general in the face.” She added, bursting with laughter.

Taki blushed, although it wasn’t visible through his dark skin. “We both know he deserved it though!”

His companion nodded enthusiastically, “I know! The raid on the Humai system was a disaster!”

In this manner, they went on back and forth, chatting about the past. They were both officers of the Matari navy, here on a mission to map the void. They were piloting a Fleet Issue Rifter, a lightly armed vessel equipped mostly with recon fittings to assist in their mission. The ship was Halisk, meaning it was piloted by only two officers. Taki, the commanding officer, also served as the navigator. His companion, the ever-beautiful Vera, was the ships tactical officer, in charge of all defense and all other critical systems. Now, they were taking a brief respite from duty as the ship flew silently through space.

For security reasons, the void was being considered as a possible hiding place for Matari titans, massive eighteen-kilometer beasts that rivaled the size of Matari star-bases themselves. The union only had four, and they were worth their weight in gold. Any area that could hide them was a godsend.

So far, however, the two had had trouble configuring their equipment. The surrounding area was devoid of any light, making it difficult for them to tell what direction they were moving in, and they'd been forced to deploy short-range beacons in a Hansel and Grettle type manner so they would be able to map the area, and find their way home.

The ship’s autopilot was in charge now, dropping beacons every two hundred kilometers as the ship warped deeper into the void. Taki and Vera were in the lounge, still talking over non-alcoholic drinks. Then, all hell broke loose.

With a massive shudder, every power system on the ship failed, causing the vessel to crash out of light-space, nearly tearing itself apart. Taki and Vera were thrown to the walls just as the gravity failed, lightening their impact and possibly saving their lives. Dazed, they only had a moment to think before the emergency generator restored the gravity, causing them to smash painfully into the ship’s hard floors. They were knocked out instantly, their minds falling into the night.

U.S.S Freedom
Sovereign Class Starship
The Void
25th November 2400

Robyn walked along the corridor, illuminating her way with a palm beacon she collected from an equipment locker on the bulkhead of the corridor outside her quarters. She had quickly figured that all systems, save for those with an indendant powersource, such as the Gravity grid and the Life SUpport, were off-line, includeing the lights. This really was the last thing that they needed right now. In a completely dark area of space, extremly difficult to scan from the outside and without power. With the Warp Core off-line it would be hard to get the matter-antimatter reaction going again without blowing the ship into nothingness.

Suddenly she foundherself pushed to the deck by a firm pair of hands and held down. She spun the light in her hand around and into the face of a petrified looking Bajoran officer.

"I am so sorry Captain" The Ensign immediatly began to stutter "I thought you were an intruder"

"No harm done" Robyn replied as the Ensign helped her back to her feet "I don't beleive I've met you before, New Transfer?"

"Yes sir, straight out of the Academy" The ensign replied "Ensign Tal Enara"

"Well Ensign Tal, your with me" Robyn said, remembering the Bajoran tradition of placing their family names first.

Tal looked releived as she fell in behind her Captain as they strode down the corridor.

*********

Main Engineering meanwhile was in chaos as the Engineering staff worked quickly to try and get the Primary systems back online. Without much luck however. With no lighting, they were forced to resort to Palm Beacons to see what they were doing, making matters that much harder. Lieutenant Simon Bachus was hanging over the edge of the deck, looking down to the bottom of the Warp Core.

"Try and open up the Primary Intermix cooler" He shouted down to a group of engineers below "See if there is still enough to perform an emergency stop, and keep us going long enough to procur a new supply"

"What's the situation?" Robyn demanded as she strode into the room, Ensign Tal in her wake.

"We've lost all systems" Bachus reported grimly "I'm trying to get the Warp Core online to restore main power"

"Will the Shuttle's still work?" Robyn asked.

"Not for long, i'd give them a few hours max before they shut down like us" Bachus replied "Not to mention there's no power to the Shuttlebay doors"

Robyn sighed as she set about helping the Engineering crew attempt to get even the most basic systems back online, but it wasn't a matter of the equipment not working, it was the fact that their energy appeared to be being drained to some unknown location. To block it they needed shields, and to have shields they needed power.

It was certainly going to be a very, very long day.

The VNS Imperator sailed through the darkness of the void. It has recently been on a patrol route of the colonies and was now heading back to base to refuel and re arm after its brief encounter with a pirate vessel out side of Cressida. As the ship sailed through the space it was suddenly shock by an invisabe force. All power shut down.

Space. Ever stretching out. Ever so lonely. Loneliness that hides disgust in its barren expanse. Why exploration had been requested of the two ships was beyond the crews, although it was work. And with work the Papiermarks mounted. The Battleship and Cruiser glided through deep space, surrounded by Drones and all manner of sensors. What data and knowledge would achieve was, again, beyond the crews. In the end it won't matter. Nothing will. But, if it keeps Space Command off their backs, it would be worth the months spent from the bottle.
Night-cycle had kicked in around two hours ago, although sleep had become a thing of the past. A distant memory many tried to recall, slipping further into the bleak past. The past that many wished to never speak about. The weak Human body becoming another thing of the past, if it wasn't mechanically enhanced it had all sorts of stimulants and chemicals pulsing through it. A taint many Prosperan's despised, but what could they do but submit. Atrum wouldn't stand for it. The system was, warped. It chewed the inhabitants up and spat out a tainted, twisted shell of what had been ingested. Darkness crept through the system and it's parasites....

Night-cycle was one of those times, where empty halls echoed with distant laughter and cries. Day-shift had ended in celebration. It seemed two crew members had eventually tied the knot. The upper echelons looking down on and despising this weakness, eyes would be kept on the pair. Distractions were not welcome. The distraction creeping up on the ships was definitely not welcome.
CommandBridge was a shell of it's day-cycle self, limited crew. Limited light. Eyes straining to study computer screens and data read outs. Eyes long since past caring. Eyes long past seeing. Commendant Jorgun sat slumped in his 'office', just to the right of the 'bridge. Blood reds and regal blues ordained dark oaks. Floor to ceiling shelves carried books, books collecting dust. Jorgun had once been interested. Now, well, now things were changing weren't they? People weren't who there were anymore. Greying long before their time, eyes slumping back into sockets. Skin cracking and wrinkling, turning to the palest Alabaster you had ever seen. Eyes growing more and more bloodshot, long past their use-by dates. Jorgun stretched out, grasping for the plastic cup on his desk. Its contents had long lost their heat. It was going to be another long, cold night-cycle. And now, things got even longer...

With a simple click and wail, power was drained. Engines shutting down mid shunt, lights dimming into the darkness. Laughter stopped short. Eyes suddenly back to use. The Commandbridge was plunged into the deep dark, even out the view ports there were no stars. Jorgun stood on the 'bridge, his office growing weary of his presence.
"Situation?" Came the raspy, croaked voice.
Servitors looked up, unawares of the change. Hell, they were unawares of much now-a-days. Data-flow had taken their minds and turned them into mush. The clicking, mechanical/human voice spoke back.
"Power has gone, sir."
"Main power plant down. Engines gone. Life support, gravity and shields still online." Another added. The mouth had forgotten how to speak, words forced out, their meanings lost to the servitors.
"Reasons?" Jorgun inquired.
"Unknown at present."
"Comms?"
"Gone. Personal comm-link's will still be operational."
Jorgun nodded, connecting himself to his crew on a wide band.
I want the reasons for this found and brought to me. And keep those damn Marines where they belong. Rustle them some Lhoi-hai if need be. I don't expect to ask twice. Also, Day-Shift is now on. Get back to work.
Moans, groans and murmurs echoed back to Jorgun's ears. He turned back to his beloved view port, and his vision settled staring, straight into the blackness. The blackness connecting with the blackness in his mind. For the moment, he was at peace with the universe...

Da Romas
Rifter-Class Frigate

The frigate, which had sustained moderate structural damage, now drifted through space, slowly rotating in a haphazard manner that nearly avoided impact with the rear of a second drifting interstellar craft. In one area of the port wing structure, where a section had been ripped and battered, a column of oxygen bled into the vacuum of space. Curiously, the same tear had prevented several fires that could have, had they been allowed air and time to burn, potentially crippled the ship.

Unfortunately, the damage had also severely compromised the atmosphere throughout the ship. Just in time, pressure sensitive blast doors slid into place, securing the rest of the ship from decompression. Still, the resulting whirlwind had done its share of damage. Documents, fragments, and furnishings had been scattered, and some now floated in the encompassing darkness outside the ship.

The whirlwind's rampage had also awoken Vera and Taki. Something about being pulled through several compartments and almost being dumped into space in the explosive decompression that accompanied the whirlwind tended to have that affect.

The couple, which had collapsed painfully onto the floor as gravity reclaimed their tired bodies for a second time, now stirred. Vera groaned, to sore to move, while Taki, who was in the same state beside her, spit up blood.

But for the moment, at least, they were safe. And that was all they could ask for.

U.S.S Freedom
Sovereign Class Starship
The Void
25th November 2400

"There you go, we've got emergency power back online" Bachus reported as he pulled himself up from the warp core.

Beginning to slowly but surely pulse once again, it was no where near enough to do more than ensure that the crew wouldn't die from suffoctation and wouldn't suddenly start floating away into the bulkhead, meaning that they would have more luck in repairing the ship. Robyn sighed as she stood up herself and wiped her mucky hands on her uniform trousers, it didn't look very smart of course, but nobody else could really see and most were in the same state of dress anway.

"Do we have Communications?" Robyn asked.

"Short-Range, certainly not out of the Void" Bachus replied.

Robyn nodded and walked over to a console on the far side of engineering which had been connected into most bridge systems whilst the ships Captain was in main engineering. She opened up a channel on a low-level wideband signal.

"To any ships in the area, this is Captain Robyn Sinclair of the Federation Starship Freedom, we have lost main power in an area of space in the void, if anyone else is out there I advise you reverse course immediatly and leave the Void" RObyn said urgently "Any vessels already afflicted by this area of space, please respond so we can pool our resources"

Da Romas
Rifter-Class Frigate

The oppressive darkness inside the frigate was finally pushed back as emergency light strips came on, providing a dull blue phosphorescent light throughout the ship.

Craftily using the nearby walls to lift themselves up, Vera and Taki had finally gotten to their feet. As their strength slowly began to return, they mustered up the strength to talk.

“We have…to get…power…back” Vera gasped, speaking in-between breaths.

Taki nodded, and together they lumbered down below decks into the bowels of the ship. Wires, damaged and frayed, were everywhere. They were forced to take several detours because of sparking wires that landed in their path.

After what seemed like hours, they reached the main power generator. Curiously, the generator looked to be fine. The only problem was, it wasn’t working. The generator powered everything, including the warp drive, and was supposed to have over a dozen fail-safes. Of these, only one had been activated. By the grace of heaven, it had fortunately been the most critical one, the one tasked with maintaining life-support.

Vera cursed.

“I’m gonna have to take this thing apart!” she remarked in annoyance. “It should be salmskan (Matari curse word) working!”

Taki sympathized, but realized that time was not on their side. Anything could have been going on outside the ship, and they need power, not anger.

“Can you get the comm array up at least?” he asked.

“If I reroute some reserve power through circuit breaker C and back up lines F2, and G46.” She responded, after a moment’s pause.

“The trouble is, I’ll have to divert power from the environmental system to do it. We cannot afford to supply energy for more than short-range bands. We’re running on non-essentials as it is.” She added.

Taki nodded.

“I’ll run upstairs and see if I can raise anyone. How long until I get sensors?”

She shook her head. “I can’t give a time estimate until I know what’s wrong. Besides, I’m gonna need the power to bring the repair bots online.” She gestured at all the damaged relays and equipment throughout the room.

Unfortunately, Taki realized, she was right. With all the damage, it was lucky they could get power to the coms. There were two main problems: one was the power itself, and two was the wires, which delivered the power. Most of the wires were blown out when the ship’s warp bubble had collapsed. Vera couldn’t risk rerouting more of the power they had for fear of overloading the remaining wires.

“Alright. I’m going, I’ll leave this to you.” Taki turned to leave. Vera preferred to work alone, and he knew she would have turned down any help he offered. Besides, he hadn’t fully recovered, and he doubted he was much use in her area of expertise anyway.

As he left, Vera got down to work. She couldn’t help but smile. This was what she’d been born to do.

Ten minutes later, Taki was in the control room cleaning and removing as much debris as possible when the communications finally winked back on. He knew because a small light one of the panels blinked. He walked over to the panel, pushing the required buttons to switch over to a subspace com channel. Before he could go any further however, the panel beeped, indicating that someone was broadcasting a sub-space transmission on the channel.

Curious and slightly taken aback, Taki tuned in, quickly realizing the message was looping.

...reverse course immediatly and leave the Void", the voice said urgently, "Any vessels already afflicted by this area of space, please respond so we can pool our resources. To any ships in the area, this is Captain Robyn Sinclair of the Federation Starship Enterprise, we have lost main power in an area of space in the void, if anyone else is out there I advise you reverse course immediatly and leave the Void...

Taki bit his lip.

Should he respond? What if this was a trap? The Da Romas would certainly make easy prey in her current state. Well, he decided after a moment, it wasn’t as if things could get much worse.

He activated the com’s mike, and prepared to send a response on the com band.

“Qwedsi Ash eha skido Matari…” He hesitated, remembering that the communication had come over in English. He’d instinctively spoken in Matari, but it occurred to him they might not understand.

“This is the Da Romas, a scout frigate of the Matari navy,” he said, this time in English. “We were stranded here by a strange occurrence. We come in peace. I repeat, we have peaceful intentions. Federation Starship Freedom, can you help us?”

Robyn tossed a burst bioneural pack over her shouldor and into the pile of used ones that had broke during the incident, they were having to repair all of the affected systems to get the computer system back on-line. It wasn't a pleasent job as there was liquid all over the place and it got all over the place and was hell to get off of one's uniform. Wiping her hands again she picked up a new pack and placed it into the system where it began to light up, indicating that it was working.

"Captain, we've got a responce from another ship!" Bachus reported "Poor souls are stuck as well"

"Damn, Ok; Prepare a Type-11 Shuttlecraft I want to send a team across" Robyn ordered as she strode over and exaimined the message "And open a return channel"

"Open"

"Da Romas, this is Captain Sinclair, Can I help you? Yes I can" Robyn said simply "I'm sending a Engineering detail over to assisst you in repairing your ship, we've got a few shuttles that haven't been efected yet, so we'll send the team over via them"

Drifting through bleak and desolate space seemed appropriate for the damned souls on board. Drifting for eternity; drawing ever closer to all consuming dark. Pain was the best teacher, and much would be received for this blunder. Uncharted space. Damn it to dark. Thoughts of anger and confusion drifted through minds on board, work-shifts powering through at double time. Power had been re-routed from the shield generators for emergency systems. With shields down, it was only a matter of time to see if they were prey. And time trickled slowly through the eternal hourglass. With emergency communications back online, there was much chatter to be heard. Scared, frantic voices streamed through Jorgun's senses. He could taste it. He could smell it. He licked his lips. Suddenly, humanity seemed to break through again. His mind a clutter of two beings. Fighting for supremacy. Dark and Light. Only time will weed out the weaker being...

Jorgun's eyes searched space, the console lights barely letting him see within the commandbridge. He exhaled a deep sigh, his lips parting to reveal yellowing teeth.
"Connect me on a wide-band, those other ships could prove useful."
Dead eyes stared back as servitors carried out the commandant's wishes. The all familiar click of opening channels dragging him back from his mind...

U.S.S Freedom
Sovereign Class Starship
The Void
25th November 2400

Robyn watched in the blue light of the emergency lighting as the shuttle left the shuttlebay and began to swoop away towards the source of the return transmission that they had received. They were taking an emergency power supply that had been quickly retrofitted to emit a forcefield that should protect it from the power-drain, of course once the power itself got into the ships power circuits it would probably suffer the fate of the other power from the other ships trapped in the void, meaning that they needed to find the source of the problem.

"Sir, we're receiving another transmission"

Robyn raised her eyebrows, she hadn't expected the Void to be so crowded, not with ships that weren't going around sucking power from other people's starships. She frowned slightly reading the message before opening a channel.

"This is Captain Sinclair, whilst we do not know the source of the problem, it's not a far leap to assume that there are two most likely causes; The first is that there is some sort of natuaral phenomonan in this area of space, the second is that another species inhabits this space and is either deliberatly or accidently causing this to happen" Robyn replied evenly "We are currently working on a solution to the power-drain problem, at least in the short term and should we get it working we will be more than happy to share it with you, We'll keep you updated and can provide any assisstance you require"

The INS Germania slowly pushed through space. It was a Superdreadnaught class vessel. Massing in at over 5 million tons it was a giant. Bristling with armour and weapons it was among the most powerful instruments of death the Empire of Germany had. Of course there were at least 44 others of the Germania class, and another 8 on their way, but the Germania was the first of its kind. It moved through, sensors sweeping the area. Suddenly power went out. Instantly the crew responded. The back-up reactor went online, all major systems activated their emergency generators, designed to keep them alive for a few hours incase all systems failed. Alarms blared. The corridors were bathed in a hellish red hue. Matrose(german for sailors, the term used in front of all german naval ranks) dashed back and forth. Weapons were brought to bear, operating on minimal power, but ready to go live at any moment. Transmissions were sent out. Hangar doors slowly ground open. Blast doors closed around high risk areas. All munitions went to safty. A superdreadnaught was crewed by 1,970,000 crewmen and women. It had manpower, and enough redunant systems to reassure even the most pessimistic pessimist. Within minutes it had minimal power to impeller drives and brought up it's sidewalls, shields of pure gravitonic energy. Almost instantly all power was restored. Immediatly the INS Germania began preparign to assist anyone else stuck in the void.

Da Romas
Rifter-Class Frigate, Control Room

While he waited for a return reply, Taki finished clearing out the debris from the room. The room was mostly empty except for two darkened pods and a series of panels in the front of the room. It was to these panels that Taki now moved, settling into one of two only chairs stationed beside the panels.

In normal times, Taki and Vera operated the ship from their now offline stasis pods, suspended in a nutritious solution that both fed and healed them. They “jacked in” to the ship’s systems through a variety of wireless neural implants and other equipment, allowing them to control the ship by mere thoughts. Automated robots tended to the day-to-day affairs of the ship, keeping it in top running order.

The same robots that were scattered throughout the ship, drained and deactivated, causing tripping hazards, Taki noted dejectedly.

A beep reverberated around the empty room, alerting him to an incoming message.

"Da Romas, this is Captain Sinclair, Can I help you? Yes I can, I'm sending an Engineering detail over to assist you in repairing your ship, and we’ve got a few shuttles that haven't been affected yet, so we'll send the team over via them."

Taki rushed over to the consol, hurrying to catch the Freedom's Captain before it left. He couldn’t possible condone the arrival of some unknown people he’d just met, not when the ship’s defenses weren’t even operable. That could be suicide!

He pushed the button on the com, allowing him to speak on the channel. Before he could open his mouth, however, the consol beeped again, patching a second message through.

"It is with a heavy heart we find ourselves stranded in this godforsaken stretch of space. With hearing of your chatter, we find ourselves alone no longer. Enlighten us, what is it that holds us here? "
The unknown contact's voice said.

"This is Captain Sinclair, whilst we do not know the source of the problem, it's not a far leap to assume that there are two most likely causes; The first is that there is some sort of natural phenomenon in this area of space, the second is that another species inhabits this space and is either deliberately or accidently causing this to happen. We are currently working on a solution to the power-drain problem, at least in the short term and should we get it working we will be more than happy to share it with you, We'll keep you updated and can provide any assistance you require."

Curious, Taki thought. There are far more people here than originally assumed. This changes things, quite a bit.

He decided not to hail the new contact, instead opening a private line to the Freedom.

“Attention Federation Starship Freedom. I regret to inform you that your assistance is not needed on board this ship. When I inquired about aid, I meant to ask if you knew the cause of our malady. We can handle ourselves. In addition, we request you do not alert any other contacts to our presence. Although unlikely, our enemies could be lurking in the darkness as well. We would prefer to keep a low profile until power is restored. That said, you may contact us if something important or unexpected happens.”

Yea, Duetschlanden, the idea is that the ships are more or less disabled, at least for the first couple of posts of each person. Basically you wouldn't repair your ship in one post. No one else has, don't do it either.

U.S.S Freedom
Sovereign Class Starship
The Void
25th November 2400

Robyn sighed as she gave the order to recall the shuttles, she hoped that the ship in question wasn't just being prideful and were actually able to fix their own ship without assistance. But then she couldn't do anything to change their minds and she simply didn't have the time to try with her ship still in a precarious position. The Freedom was slowly getting back on her feet as the force-field equipped generators were being hooked up to the Warp Core components and if all went well they should be able to get the Matter-Antimatter reaction stable and restore main power, at least for the time being.

Power was suddenly returned to the lighting, pulling the crew of the Freedom out of the darkness. IT wasn't full lighting, barely above darkness but it was better than nothing. Accompanied by the Red flashing of the alert lights it was somewhat 'spooky' as the crew moved through the still relatively dark ship.

Robyn moved back to the Comm station and sent a reply to Contact Alpha One.

"Very well, I've recalled my team, if you require assistance in the future however just let me know and I can have a team over within minutes"

Da Romas
Rifter-Class Frigate, Control Room

Taki sighed. These people were persistent. But they couldn't understand. Matari pride, and regulations, prevented him from accepting their help. If he accepted their offer and things went bad…

He pressed the button to transmit his voice, and then spoke on the encrypted line to Freedom. “Roger. Good Luck to you.”

As he ended the transmission, he sank back into his seat. Today was goanna be a long day. He knew it.

The ship suddenly shuddered, rocking the room and nearly throwing Taki to the floor, and main power came back online. As he climbed to his feet, he watched with delight as the room’s control panels lit up. Then, just as quickly as it had turned on, everything went dark. The room was thrown back into the darkness, held at bay by the blue glow from the emergency strips.

Taki dropped his head into his hands. A long day indeed.

Several Minutes Earlier,
Engine Room

Vera let out a triumphant whoop as the generator whirled back to life. The loud mechanical stench of progress filled the air as the fusion reactor powered back up. Despite the numerous stains adorning her clothes, she rose to her feet with a smirk. Then, it stopped.

Turbines lost their momentum, and the engine stopped the fusion reaction, causing numerous safety protocols to activate and force the system back into "safe" mode.

Curiously, Vera grinned as darkness filled the room once more. The recent failure had only invigorated her. It posed a challenge, and she was determined to meet it. Easy or not, she enjoyed her work. This simply meant she got to experiment with some more.

OOC: I wasn't clear enough. It's not repaired. It's power plants are back up, but that's because as a superdreadnaught without life support will last about... 15 minutes. It's crew is too big. I forgot to mention that it's still more or less dead in the water. 90% of it's Alpha Impeller Nodes and 50% of it's Beta Impeller Nodes are either fried beyond repair, or screwed. It's moving on basic thrusters currently. It's sidewall is only up thanks to it's beta nodes. It can hardly move. Also, I made a typo about it's mass. I meant to put 10 million tons. Sorry.

IC: Matrose Admiral Fredrick von Ottenburg XIII looked around the bridge. Most of the consoles were still sparking since power was flowing through them agian. The rest were mostly fried. A few had already been replaced. The tactical plot had by some stroke of luck survived, and it showed several other ships. How they had missed the INS Germania was beyond him...
