A royal visit [closed]

Postby Imeriata » Sun Sep 26, 2010 12:13 pm

"why always me?" Primus thought as he pushed his heavy fur cloak around himself to protect him against the cold wind that blew over the what the Imerians called the royal international airharbour or as most foreigners would refer it to "a muddy field with a couple of paved roads and a control tower" and they were actually right as the Imerian airport not only was a couple of hours from Imerbürg but also something that most Imerians shunned as airtravel was improper but the rare cargo plane and foreign visitor was enough for it to wary a continued existence. As always when Primus where here so could he only imagine how lord Edward from the foreign relation advisory had managed to convince his father that he was the right man for the job as pay back for whatever prank he had pulled on the old man.

However this time so could Primus actually agree that he was the logical choice as he was the second most important person in the entire absolute royal federation and to send his father would not be acceptable and when a foreign royalty was going to visit so where only the best they had available good enough.

Once more did he gave the cold grey sky a gaze in hope of spotting the plane coming in, but the cold grey sky was as empty the last time he checked. So instead did he once more allow his eyes to sweep over the wet landscape around him, the dark forest that the northern part of Imeriata consisted of stretched all around the cut out area that was airharour and the threes was mostly either dark green pine trees or barren old grey oaks with a few red and yellow leafs that still climbed on to life but they were a rare sign which showed that the Imerian winter was not far away and that was something the cold air also confirmed.

Once more did Primus sighed and gave the sky a hopeful gaze hoping that he would catch a glimpse of an aeroplane preparing for landing.

Queen Sophia sighed as she gazed across the table of dark red mahogany and her advisers, the Royal Council stared back. They were wary of their sovereign today who it seemed was in a irked mood, and they where all waiting for the first victim to propose their agenda. Yet as the silence filled the room the Queen drummed her fingers on the table, "Well? I believe we are here for an reason, I do have other things to do . . . "

The Minister for Commerce, a rather thin and reedy man cleared his throat nervously, "Your Majesty, there has been some objection from some companies over the anti-trust laws, and they have been hoping for a repeal-"

"No" The Queen answered shortly, which did noting to increase her advisers confidence. After some general shifting and nervous coughs the ministers looked almost pleadingly towards Alexander Hughes the Foreign Minister. He was the unofficial bridge between the Queen and her Government, and was the usual person the ministers fell on to appease the Queen. Hughes sighed and decided in the interest of Her Majesty that a little . . . break was in order.

"Your Majesty, I have been in discussion with the Imeriatan Foreign Minister, and we are hoping to arrange a state visit with yourself, hopefully soon with the Prince Edward?"

The Queen contemplated this for a while before answering; "I suppose . . .They are one of the few monarchies left . . . Very well we shall discuss it later and make arrangements."

There was a collective sigh of relief from the council, happy in the knowledge that they could have a few days away from their beloved Queen.

Queen Sophia felt her stomach lurch as the private jet took off, yet relaxed as the plane began to even out and begin it's relatively peaceful journey. As she gazed out the window she felt a pang of nervousness at what she left behind, and while she trusted her daughter, Princess Victoria, whom she had appointed regent in her stead completely, she did not like being away so long. She turned to look at her husband, Prince Edward, who was engrossed reading a book and smiled slightly, at least it was one of the visits they could make together.

After a few hours the Queen called for her Mistress of the Robes and two Ladies in Waiting, to begin getting dressed for the visit.

As the plane soared through Queen Sophia was being administered to by her ladies-in-waiting, her face was being subjected to countless applying of powders, paints and various other applications of her extensive make-up collection. It was not so much the actual process the irked the Queen, but more how little control she had over it's actual application. Her ladies were more concerned with getting the job finished perfectly that actually consulting the Queen, and she was being tossed about and passed around so much that she felt more like a doll than a monarch.

Eventually however the ordeal was over, and the Queen expected herself with the mirror, and nodded her approval, afraid of the extra time that would have to be spent if she didn't like it. She gazed at herself in the mirror, happy at the dress she picked, it was certainly regal, but she was concerned that her bare shoulders and arms would cause a stir in Imeriata highly conservative culture.

As her ladies were dismissed an intercom buzzed through informing the Queen that they had requested permission to land.

"This is Crown one to tower are we cleared to land?" The pilot said to the control tower.

As the cold day started could the radio operator as most other days do nothing but watch the men and women that occasionally made their way out to this isolated outpost in the middle of the Imerian forest that also served as his home. It was long from the green island hills he had grown up on and as always when he remembered his green home island of Taranaka so where he lost in the memory of better days when he didn't need to live alone in the middle of nowhere as he grew older and older.

So it was as he became more and more lost in nostalgia as he opened jet another bottle of mead, how many had he had today? 2? 3? He could not remember but didn't care that much as his job was more of a token thing anyway as the aeroharbour was nearly never full anyway. As he started emptying the bottle did his eyes finally spot the white dressed youth that judging from his outfit and the retinue where a nobleman and as he had a small selection of men that seemed to be part of the royal guard so he would have to be rather important but he could not really see who he where from this range.

"Probably a Jarl or maybe even a duke!" the old man muttered to himself as he pushed the whole group out of his mind with another drink. It was then to his surprise the radio crackled to life and a voice rung out across the room
"This is Crown one to tower are we cleared to land?" at first did he simply look surprised for a moment before he took up the speaker
"uhmm... Aye this be control and ye do have permission with the authority placed upon me by his lordship Anders auf silverfalt to land upon field number 3!" he said with his heavy Taranakan accent and tried his best to hid the alcohol influences from his voice but he could not really say if he were successful or not and hoped that the situation would not get reported to his lordship, but then again he would most likely have more things on his mind that to maintain the aeroharbour so if he would do anything about it was doubtful he thought as he once again put the bottle to his lips.

"My royal prince look!" one of the servants said and pointed towards the sky as the awaited aeroplane finally appeared over the grey sky "Finally!" Primus thought as the metal construction came down towards the ground a bit too fast for his liking and he did as always when seeing the blasted things coming down felt relief that he was on solid ground.

But then did the idea that he where about to meet not only a foreign delegate but also a queen which would put her above him on the social scale for once which where a rather unnerving thought and as always when he where nervous did he straighten his white tunic and the tight red pants that accompanied it, and as he knew so where both the black leather boats and his sword scarab of the same material polished and oiled to shine and the crown he whore that pointed him out as the crown prince of the federation did he thanks to the best jewellers in the federation knew where in good condition.
As he looked up at the incoming aeroplane did he shiver once more as it's imminent destruction seemed all but assured as the ground came rushing towards it at high speed and had he not seen enough landings before would he have been willing to take poison on the bet that it would not survive the impact.

Queen Sophia was making the final adjustments to her appearance, attaching the silver and sapphire ear rings to her ears, putting on the Ring of State, and finally placing the International Crown atop her head. The intercom buzzed through to inform her to strap in her seat, as they where preparing to land. After she was seated, Queen Sophia stared outside the window and raised an eyebrow in surprise, "Their airport It's a bit . . . Underdeveloped" she murmured.

"The Imeriatans do not believe air travel to be proper or civilised, so do their best not to use it," her husband informed her, looking up from his book.

"Oh I see, how do you know?" she asked, while fiddling with her ear rings, an old childhood habit she did when she was nervous.

Prince Edward held up the book he had been reading, "the royal foreign advisory handbook, by Lord Harald Auf Fiaderpen, it contains a lot of interesting aspects of Imeriata 's culture."

"Are we mentioned?" The Queen asked curiously as the plane began its descent. She could feel her stomach turning as the plane levelled suddenly.

"Yes, not a bad review actually." The Prince answered, gently unstrapping Queen Sophia's safety belt after the plane halted. After a few minutes of general preparation the Royal couple were ready, Queen Sophia in her regalia and Prince Edward in his more modest blue and red ceremonial military uniform. The door opened and they stepped out into the harsh cold of the Imeriatan air.

~*~

Henry St.Clair, the Duke of Faranday and the Queens most trusted advisor was the first person to leave the plane, and he stood on the Airports ground beside the stairway leading up to the plane.

"Her Royal Majesty, Sophia I, By The Grace of God Queen of Izzyshipper and Lady Governess of the Sevri Islands, Keeper and Defender of the Land, Supreme General of the Armed Forces, Most Just Upholder of the Law, Matriarch of the Most Noble House Maddox, Duchess of Hernington."

After her announcement Queen Sophia walked down the stairway, until she was at the bottom and stood and waited. She tried (hopefully with some success) to hide her discomfort at the sheer coldness of the air, something that was a shock for someone who spent their time in a sunny island such as Izzyshipper.

"His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Prince~Consort and Duke of Hernington." Again after the announcement the Prince walked down and stood beside his wife. Together they walked towards the Prince Primus, and stopped about a foot before him. The Queens entourage and the Prince Edward bowed and curtsied towards the Prince, while Queen Sophia inclined her head.

"Greetings Prince Primus auf Stjärnkhrone , it is a pleasure to be in your country." Queen Sophia said while extending her hand towards the crown~prince.

At first did the foreign delegation act as properly as any person that had been raised in the absolute royal federation herself and most federal subjects that stood and waited as part of either his personal staff of advisers, vassals and servants or the guardsmen that had been handpicked as the best superior squad in the entire second army nodded approvingly as they seemed as one of the people that paid attention to proper social protocols like titles and other necessaries. Then did the queen herself exited the plane and most of the federal subject simply looked in surprise or on some instances even shock over the revealing dress and from back of the party could even a voice be heard in the singing language that where Imerian.
"Men hon äro ju nastan hilt avkladd!"

While the prince himself had seen much similar nudity in the rest of the world so where it nothing he ever had or hoped he would get used to and he could agree with the statement even if he gave the crowd behind him an angry glare and while the queen and who he assumed to be the king even if he for some strange reason had been referred to as a prince which must surely be a mistake as he looked too old to be her son. As they approached did Primus lean towards one of his servants and whispered as quietly he could in imerian
"För gudarnas skall send ivag itt medelande till Imerbürg ach informera dan bästa skräddare pengar kön kapa att sy sa snabbt som han förmår en ordentlig klänning till hennes khögnliga majestät sa hon silpper gara både sig sjalv ach ass till åtnöje så oklädd! the servant simply nodded and walked away as he took forth one of those new mobile telephones that otherwise seemed so ugly and impractical now made him for the first time see the point in owning one of them. As he didn't wish to be rude so did he turned to the approaching queen once more and did his best not to look and he hoped at least to succeed better than some of the persons behind him which to his surprise only the guardsmen seemed completely unaffected about the near naked woman.

as she finally arrived at the group of Imerians did she immediately addressed the prince
"Greetings Prince Primus auf Stjärnkhrone , it is a pleasure to be in your country." he did however to his shock and horror for a moment simply looking dumbstrucked at her before he managed to get a hold of himself
"Thank you your royal highness and I can only reply that it is an honour to be in your presence!" He said in a way more fitting a prince than his earlier however short behaviour as he bowed before her and kissed her hand.

"men hon äro ju nastan hilt avkladd!" = but she is all but undressed!

Queen Sophia could feel the stairs bore into her like red hot knifes, and she silently cursed the Mistress of the Robes, who had packed the dress. Sophia had reminded her of Imeriata's strict and formal dress code, but the woman had mistaken grandeur for covering. After the prince had kissed her hand she gestured to her lady and she was handed her peacock fan, which she used to fan her face, in an attempt to hide some of her flesh, despite the complete uselessness of a device where the surrounding temperature was almost freezing.

"Your Royal Highness is too kind, we thank you for your hospitality," She said, making sure her discomfort did not show, stepping a little away from the prince and gestured to husband, "My husband, Prince Edward."

The Prince bowed yet again and straightened up, "It is an honour to meet you your highness, I am sure myself and Her Majesty will enjoy our stay greatly."

Queen Sophia gestured to the Duke of Faranay, who walked forward holding a small lacquered box, which he opened to reveal a small golden medal with a rose insignia.

"Your Highness, a gift for yourself, we wish for you to become an honorary Knight of the Rose, our most prestigious Order of Chivalry," Queen Sophia said, curious to see how the gesture would be taken.

"Your Royal Highness is too kind, we thank you for your hospitality," the queen said and to the prince approval could he notice that she used royal plural which where something that some royal families for whatever reason had stopped using. As she did point towards the prince so where his suspicions confirmed as she said "My husband, Prince Edward." The prince or as far as Primus was concerned the king bowed before him and said "It is an honour to meet you your highness, I am sure myself and Her Majesty will enjoy our stay greatly."

As social protocols needed to be upheld did Primus return the gesture by bowing himself "The pleasure is mine your..." and of a moment did his brain simply stop working as he desperately tried to figure out what title to address him, he was clearly a king as he was married to the queen but he did still carry the title of prince and that seemed what he was refereed to even by his own wife so he finished the sentence as quickly as he could and hoped that his temporary silence in the middle of the sentence weren't noticed "... royal prince and I can assure that I and his royal highness will be doing our best to assure that your visit indeed will be satisfactory!"

Then did the queen to his surprise turned towards that servant they seemed to have brought with them that walked towards them with a box that the prince hadn't noticed before and out of it did the queen took forth a medal with what at a first glance seemed to Primus utter surprise seemed to be depicting the holy rose ablaze, but as he got a quicker look at the medal so could he see that it wasn't the holy and well known symbol that the chronically used as its own sign.

"Your Highness, a gift for yourself, we wish for you to become an honorary Knight of the Rose, our most prestigious Order of Chivalry," The queen explained and for a couple of moments stood the prince once more without any idea what to do so he as he usually when he where uncertain about something feel back on tradition and customs. So without further ado did he kneel in front of the queen, something he immediately regretted as he felt how his knee got both cold and wet in the mud, he could however not sneak a peek as that would be rude but he could bet that his best pair of pants where now also dirty. He did however push the inconvenience aside as he said
"It would be a great honour your royal highness and I would be most privileged if you wished to bestow me that honour!"

Queen Sophia froze when Prince Primus kneeled before her, as she had not been expecting such an extreme reaction. Her mind worked frantically beneath a serene mask of calm as she tried desperately how to proceed with the zealous youth. She decided, in the tradition of leaders everywhere, to wing it, as her son would say.

"I, Sophia I, hereby present to His Royal Prince Primus Auf Stjärnkhrone the honor and respect granted to those of the Order Rose" and at this the Queen pinned the medal onto the Prince's white tunic, it's highly polished surface gleaming in the daylight. "You can stand now, your highness." The Queen said, smiling faintly at the muddy patch that now stained the Royal's trousers. The Imeriatan's were . . . traditional to say the least, to Sophia it was slightly disconcerting and made her wonder how much more she would have to consider each action in case it offended or shocked this proud race.

While the title of "knight of the rose" was not really as impressive as some of the other titles he held and to be truthfully so did it sounded as some military officer of the holy army the chronically maintained, but it was a title non the less and he knew from experiences that the more titles a man held the more important they were. Despite the obvious but still small boast to both his own career and social standing a longer name would provide him so could he not shake the feeling that he hadn't really earned it as he couldn't remember he personally had done anything for either the queen or her kingdom.

His thoughts where however interrupted as the queen herself spoke once more "You can stand now, your highness."
Something he did as quickly as social traditions and protocols demanded as it finally gave him the ability to get his knee out of the mud and how his previously polished boots now looked like was nothing he even wanted to think about. To his horror so did the queen smiled as she gave his legs a quick look that confirmed his suspicions of the how the state his pants and boots now surely was in.

Before he could get out an excuse about not having brought a gift of his own or the unacceptable and embarrassing state of affairs his pants and boots now where in did the queen added:
"We do not wish to be an inconvenience your Royal Prince, shall we perhaps move inside or to transport? We are not so used to such harsh weather in our more humid isle."

To this did he only once more gave her inappropriate dress a surprised look before his eyes quickly drew to more appropriate things to look at as her face since looking at her nude shoulders and arms where something a nineteen year old and married gentle and nobleman should not do, but he did see her point as it now that he thought about it was not only inappropriate but it would also be unable to protect her from the late Imerian autumn that as usual where all but over before you noticed it.

"Ohh excuse my manners your royal highness!" the prince replied to her inquiry "If your royal highness would only follow me so do we have the auto-mobiles just a stonethrow behind us!" He said as he led both the queen and her prince if he had managed gotten his title right which still seemed like a strange thing to him through the crowd of noblemen and advisers that had followed him some because they had been ordered to do so as part of his personal staff some however where he certain where only there to get a glimpse of the queen and himself. As they had with the help of the twenty or so guardsmen that had opened a way in the small crowd managed to get to the cars did two elves quickly opened the doors for the royalties in the largest and most decorated car.
"I am sorry your royal highnesses that I did not have the courtesy to use a carriage but we suspected that your royal highnesses would both prefer to arrive at Imerbürg as soon as possible rather than the two days it would take with a more proper transport!" Primus explained as he once more thought that the car might have been a bad idea and even a bit rude but what had been done had been done and he could not make it undone no matter how hard he tried and all he could do was to hope that the two royalties would not take too much insult over the improper mode of transportation and the outright rude behaviour from their side and once more did he wish that a railway was close by but as the airport had been stacked away as far from the population as possible so the planes would not crash into anything important or living so where it a rather impossible thing to do.

Sophia was grateful for the invitation to get into the vehicle, despite the Prince's embarrassment that they could not ride in coaches, which to Sophia's relief was out of the question as she found them all too often draughty and bumpy, where the prospect of an heated and comfortable car ride to Imerbürg was much more appealing.

"The Queen assures you that we do not mind travelling in such a manner, at times we must sacrifice tradition for practicality." Queen Sophia answered, as they made their way through the throng of people that had congregated around the Prince. When they eventually reached the vehicle two slender creatures walked forwards to open the door, causing Queen Sophia to hesitate. Stood before her where two elves, the first of the race the Queen had ever seen.

She wondered sadly if they came from the Imerian colony of New Felandia, where she knew that the Imerian armies had conquered after they deposed the reigning Duchess. She knew the Imerians kept non-human slaves, and she hoped that they had at leat escaped that fate. After she realised she had been staring at the elves for too long she quickly placed the thought out of her head and thanked them, before slipping a twenty Kronor in their pockets.

As she sat down inside the seat of the car, she was at once impressed at the luxury and grandeur of the vehicle, and after both Princes had entered the car and the doors where shut Queen Sophia could actually feel the need to use her fan, which was much more preferable than the cold outside.

"So Prince Primus, to Imerbürg we go?"

For a moment had the prince been extremely nervous that the queen would disapprove the horrible transport, something Primus couldn't blame her for as even he thought the car looked dangerous and not to mention ugly however to his relief so didn't the queen complain as he had been correct that she would rather arrive as quickly as possible rather than the two days of travel the carriage would have given them as she said "The Queen assures you that we do not mind travelling in such a manner, at times we must sacrifice tradition for practicality."

To which he could draw a breath of relief before he replied "your royal highness is most correct and no matter how sadden we might be about the loss of a time honoured tradition so do the always changing world seldom allow old customs to live forever no matter how hard we try but I guess that is what it means to be human!" and as he finished so did the queen enter the car but to his outright surprise so did she for some strange reason slip a coin to the elves and even if he didn't see how much it was so where he sure that it was way too much for the poor creature to handle but he could not really take it from him as that would be a direct insult against the queen so he decided to ignore it and force the two poor creatures to suffer to save his own face, sure it was nothing he liked doing but it was something that he had to do "but I guess that is what comes with being human!" he thought to himself as he followed the queen into the car.

Even if he hated the idea about travel with such a ugly vehicle so could he not say that the inside was ugly as it was designed to look like a carriage with wooded walls, ceiling and floor accompanied with two blue silk sofas and even silver decorations covering the walls and around the windows to his liking so had also a small part been set aside so servants could travel standing next to their masters and tend to their needs. Behind him so did the doors close once more as the two elves enter and took position at the ends the two sofas so they could be handy would their services be required.

It was however the queen that spoke first as she inquired "So Prince Primus, to Imerbürg we go?" this time however so could he reply immediately as he smiled and said "your royal highness is quite correct and we will drive there without delay!" as if the universe lived only to serve him so did the car start almost immediately after he had said those words and the car started to move through the muddy forest road with the tall dark pine trees on its sides that where a so typical image of northern Imeriata proper.
"however your royal highness!" did Primus said as the trees moved past on their sides "If I where your royal highness herself so would I not hand money to the lower species as they are not bright enough to handle such a responsibility and it is bound to end badly as you never know what they might do!

Queen Sophia looked at the young Prince, fighting the growing surge of anger at his reprimand, and took a few deep breaths before she answered the young man. "The Queen thanks you for your advice your Royal Prince, Indeed she has only been on the throne for twenty-one years but we are lucky to have such an . . . knowledgeable youth in our presence," Queen Sophia's fan now covered the lower part of her face, hiding the scowl that formed there.

"Although royal prince, it seems to me that a nation that had managed to govern itself for generations would be able to grasp the concept of currency, but indeed if it bothers your Royal Prince I will not do it any longer," and at this the monarch crossed her legs and stared out the window to the cold bleak landscape as it blurred past.

Prince Edward could feel the tension radiating off his wife, who he knew had a revulsion of slavery, and he knew how difficult it was for her to hide her disgust of the practice. Hoping to dissfuse the situation slightly the prince tried to start some conversation.

"So your Highness, I have been reading some of the work of Lord Harald Auf Fjaderpen, he provides . . . an interesting read, I have been thinking of purchasing some of his works for the Great Library in the Palace back in Izzyshipper."

"The Queen thanks you for your advice your Royal Prince, Indeed she has only been on the throne for twenty-one years but we are lucky to have such an . . . knowledgeable youth in our presence," the queen said as she started waving her fan over her face to escape from the blasted heat that seemed to fill the compartment.

"Thank you your royal highness!" Primus said proudly as the complement was indeed something coming from one of her social rang.
"Although royal prince, it seems to me that a nation that had managed to govern itself for generations would be able to grasp the concept of currency, but indeed if it bothers your Royal Prince I will not do it any longer," she replied a bit to quickly and if he wouldn't knew better so would he almost say that she was annoyed but as he knew that it could not be the case did he let it slip.

"that might be for the best your royal highness, but you would have to remember that they are not human so it might be for the best that you do not put too much pressure on the poor creatures" to his surprise so did she however started to look out of the window and while the Imerian landscape was beautiful so was it still a surprise as she had been the one that seemed thankful about the advice that he had given him.

However the king got his attention as he added a more familiar topic to the conversation namely literature
"So your Highness, I have been reading some of the work of Lord Harald Auf Fjaderpen, he provides . . . an interesting read, I have been thinking of purchasing some of his works for the Great Library in the Palace back in Izzyshipper." this made the prince smile as he turned towards the king "yes I would recommend that as he is actually hailed as a great writer here in the federation and I personally had read a large part of his work and especially 'the royal foreign relations advisories guide to the world' is a good and informative read but I would also recommend 'the royal sciences guide to the lesser species' that he also wrote as it is also a good and informative read!"

"yes I would recommend that as he is actually hailed as a great writer here in the federation and I personally had read a large part of his work and especially 'the royal foreign relations advisories guide to the world' is a good and informative read but I would also recommend 'the royal sciences guide to the lesser species' that he also wrote as it is also a good and informative read!"

Prince Edward felt like strangling Primus as the boy spoke, the young Prince seemed oblivious to the surrounding atmosphere and, in Prince Edward's personal opinion, was not the brightest bulb in the box. He could feel Sophia stiffen beside him at the mentioning of lesser species and hoped to God that the Prince did not push her any further.

"Yes, I had come across the Royal Foreign Advisory, Izzyshipper itself is mentioned. I will need to contact the merchant's guild about buying some various pieces of literature for our extensive collection back home. My daughter Princess Victoria will be fascinated I know." As he was speaking Edward sneaked a look at Sophia, she was still staring resolutely out of the window, fan covering her face. "Is that not right dear?" he asked her, hoping to get her involved and not to have her thought as rude.

Sophia turned round and blinked in surprise, "What? . . . oh yes, I'll arrange for some funds to be allocated."

Prince Edward gave her a meaningful look, which meant something along the lines of "get a hold of yourself." To his relief the Queen took a deep breath and turned to address Prince Primus;

"How long until we reach your magnificent palace, your Highness?"

Totally obviously to the feeling of his two passengers so did the prince continue as he did before as the king continued the conversation about literature
"Yes, I had come across the Royal Foreign Advisory, Izzyshipper itself is mentioned. I will need to contact the merchant's guild about buying some various pieces of literature for our extensive collection back home. My daughter Princess Victoria will be fascinated I know." while he nodded as the king spoke did Primus wait until the king finished speaking until he replied he did however not have the chance as the king turned towards the queen and added "Is that not right dear?" to which she added "What? . . . oh yes, I'll arrange for some funds to be allocated." Now did however Primus use the short time laps to cut in as he offered his services to the king as the queen seemed to prefer to watch the landscape
"Well if your royal highness have no objections so could I get in contact with the guild on your behaves or even if you would rather prefer so could I get you in contact with the guild!" Now did however to his delight the queen turn towards him and asked him "How long until we reach your magnificent palace, your Highness?"

This did of course come as a better direction of the conversation as he could now discuss some things that he had knowledge about instead of the queen did simply look out of the window as it would not only be a boring trip if no one said anything but it was after all his duty as a host to make sure that the two were taken care of
"it will take about four hours maybe five if we are unlucky!" he said truthfully which was one of the reasons he hated flying as he always considered the long drive he had to endure afterwards to be a pain in the back

He did however as a good host decided to see if it was something he could do for the two of them "if your royal highnesses would wish so could I have some fruits or some wine and cheese brought forth?"

"if your royal highnesses would wish so could I have some fruits or some wine and cheese brought forth?"

Queen Sophia looked up from the window, having finally controlled her emotions under a mask of indifference, and readied herself for the hours that would go by before they would reach Imerbürg. She straightened up slightly, before answering the Prince, "I would love some cheese your Royal Prince, thank you. Although I would forego the wine if it's all the same to you, I would prefer to have a clear head when meeting with His Majesty the King."

"I wouldn't mind both your Highness," Prince Edward replied.

As the preparations were being made, Queen Sophia decided that some damage control was needed after her stand-offish behavior. She took off her crown and placed it on her lap and straightened up before she addressed the Prince.

"You must forgive my distant demeanor their your Royal Prince, we were . . . overcome by the scenic view offered by Imeriata. We thank you for the introduction to the Merchants Guild, I may even make other business deals with them, we do need certain supplies for the recent post-war restoration of Izzyshipper's towns."

The prince smiled a bit as the two foreign delegates took up his offer so he turned to the two servants that stood to the door and said in his own native language
"skullo ni hava vanlighaten itt tage fram in platta mid ost ach twa glass vin till både hans khöngliga majestat och mig sjalv!"

the servants did as they had been raised to reacted immediately by turning to the small freeze that where hidden in the floor and took forth both two glass, a bottle of wine and one of the large cheese trays that the prince had stocked the car with beforehand, while he had managed to eat half of the fruit on the way here and the grapes where actually totally gone so could still some be seen as the elves took forth the snacks and wine. His attention where however directed towards the queen as she spoke

The prince nodded as she spoke and gave the landscape that rushed past the window a look before he turned towards the queen
"I surely can understand that as the fatherland undoubtedly is a beautiful place and I wouldn't exchange her for anything in the world! And while I am saddened to hear about your misfortune so am I certain that the merchant guild would be able to help you out!" while he had not really been informed that Izzyshipper had been in a war so where it nothing that he where surprised that he had missed as it always where some conflict in the world and most of them where simply overlooked by the media as there were always something bigger to report. However did the sound of someone clearing his throat next to him made him turn around to see one of the elves offering forward the cheese and wine to the three humans in the car.

"skullo ni hava vanlighaten itt tage fram in platta mid ost ach twa glass vin till både hans khöngliga majestat och mig sjalv!"=
Would you be nice enough to bring forth a plate of cheese and two glass of wine to his royal highness and myself

"Indeed we hope they can, we believe the Kingdom of Menassa recently visited for the same purpose, sadly we are quite short of wood in Izzyshipper due to the large amounts of forestry preserved, meaning it one of our most important imports -"

She was interrupted by a polite cough from her side, and the two Elves were holding out a tray of a half-eaten cheeseboard for her to sample. Taking a small amount of an unknown cheese and cracker, she said "Thank you" in Imerian before she ate it. When she did however, she coughed and almost spat it out before four years training at the Queen Mary Finishing school for Girls took place and she swallowed quickly. The cheese was strong to say the least, but the mere thought of Mrs. Steel, her old etiquette teacher (commonly known by girls as the Satan in a corset) was enough to make her take another bite, so not to appear rude.

"A-as I was saying, your Royal Prince, it is among our chiefest imports and the Queen would be most interested in arranging such matters with the Imerian Merchants Guild."

Carefully placing the cheese aside, Sophia picked a hopefully milder one of the tray to eat, and fruitlessly (no pun intended) searched for a grape to go with it.

"Indeed we hope they can, we believe the Kingdom of Menassa recently visited for the same purpose, sadly we are quite short of wood in Izzyshipper due to the large amounts of forestry preserved, meaning it one of our most important imports -" the queen replied but where cut off by the elves as they offered her the cheese and to his surprise did she immediately reach for the Koperberg mountain cheese that jokingly where considered something you put in front of the real cheese to kill the rats but still always made its way unto Imerian cheese trays as it still where expensive and despite the jokes about its strong flavour considered a delicate. What however did took him by suprise was the fact that she thanked the elves, or well not that she thanked them as it was only common courtesy but in the language she thanked them in and he had so far only heard Imerian been spoken by federal subjects
"your royal highness speaks the good old language?" Primus asked in Imerian using the Imerian term on their own language for a moment forgetting that it might not be everyone that knew how his people refereed their own tongue as she cut into her cheese. For a moment so did she stooped as if she were unprepared for the strong flavour but Primus did quickly pushed the thought away as "a royalty could not be wrong or make mistakes" as the codex nobility said.

"A-as I was saying, your Royal Prince, it is among our chiefest imports and the Queen would be most interested in arranging such matters with the Imerian Merchants Guild." she said as she putted the cheese away and for a moment did primus thought that there might be something wrong with it and decided to pick up a bit himself which as usually set his mouth on fire and he did as quick as social protocol demanded watered it down with a mouthful of wine and took a deep breath before he pushed the matter out of his mind and replied "while I am not a merchant high lord so am I sure that wood would be able to be produced as numerous corporations have their own lumbering territories here on the Imerian continent but also on the many overseas realms as Imerian Africa and nova Imeriata do a huge lumber industry exist!" and as luck would have it so did the car just as he said so drove past an open meadow where men with axes felt trees before dragging them with the aid of mammoths to the waiting wagons where large wholly beasts of the same species waited for the order of beginning to drag their burden to the nearest river where the lumber would be transported downstream to waiting lumbermils.

As though proving Prince Primus's point, they past an huge lumber mill, where Sophia could see the small figures in the distance labouring away to fell the tree's. As each one of the wooden behemoths fell, an gigantic woolly creature came labouring fourth for it to be fastened for it to carry.

As the Queen racked her brains to what the animal could possibly be, in a flash she remembered the old picture books her Nanny had her read when she was younger, an remembered the old Ice-Ages of Izzyshipper, where the furry giants that walked the earth were called-

"By God are those Mammoths over there, they haven't been in Izzyshipper for almost four thousand years!" Queen Sophia exclaimed, enthralled at the slow beasts as they carried their quarry, feeling like that little girl who stared at the old drawings in the nursery again.

She turned to her husband, who looked slightly confused at the creatures. "Alf thraka?" he said bemused, using their native tongue of Izzerian which translated into "Hairy elephant" in an attempt to describe the things. His puzzled face only made her laugh and smile even more.

"By God are those Mammoths over there, they haven't been in Izzyshipper for almost four thousand years!" the queen said almost shocked as the huge furry animals worked next to them, for Primus that had grown up with the massive beasts of burden as something obvious that helped them with all matter of heavy labour so did the shock the queen displayed come as something of a surprise to the prince before he remembered that mammoths where somewhat rare abroad as they had gone extinct when the globe heated up however due to the northern iceplains bordered to the north pole and the northern parts of them were well within the polar area so had most animals from that period simply withdrawn northwards and now lived there and in the equally cold Vedian mountain range.

She did then preceded to turn to her husband and said something the prince didn't understand as he didn't spoke the language and he waited until she was done before he answered "well yes they are quite commonly employed in heavy labour and lives in large hordes up in the north where the tribes that live in the northern iceplains herd them!"

"well yes they are quite commonly employed in heavy labour and lives in large hordes up in the north where the tribes that live in the northern iceplains herd them!"

Queen Sophia gasped in delight, imagining the mighty creatures that lived in the frozen tundra of the north, before releasing a small sigh. "If I didn't think our climate is too warm for the creatures I would purchase one for the Vinera Zoo." she said wistfully, before grabbing another some cheese and popping it in her mouth.

As the car carried on with its journey to Imerbürg, Sophia began to grow more excited at the thought of meeting the King, although hopefully she did not let it show and seem like some over eager child. Perhaps her excitement was due to the fact she would be seeing another absolute monarch, who were few in this world and heavily judged. As she mused the role of the Imerian monarchy she began to wonder Prince Primus's duties as crown prince.

"Tell me your Royal Prince, what duties apart from shepherding old Queens around the Federation does the King entrust you with?"

"If I didn't think our climate is too warm for the creatures I would purchase one for the Vinera Zoo." the queen said as she looked at the hairy beasts and while the prince did see that they indeed was something to look at so did he also have the misfortune to be close to one and feel ones stench.
"If I am not entirely misinformed your royal highness so aren't it possible to lower temperatures on an artificial way? I mean we use ice in large quantities to lower temperatures ourselves with a cooling backup system to ensure that the temperature of the ice is just below the freezing point wouldn't it be possible to do something similar to your royal highness zoo?" the prince however decided to add as she seemed to have taken a liking to the hairy beasts.

"Tell me your Royal Prince, what duties apart from shepherding old Queens around the Federation does the King entrust you with?" the queen suddenly asked Primus which were in his mind a bit better as the conversation now turned towards fields he known well.
"As the prince am I the duke of Imeriata and lord of Imerbürg as well and as the lord of Imerbürg and duke of Imeriata is it my duty to rule the internal policies of both the city and the realm itself under the watchful gaze of his royal highness and if I do make a decision his royal highness do not like so do his royal highness contradict me and make a decision of his own instead!" Primus explained "however" he continued "so are it not much different than how most dukes or Jarls rule their own realms and how the majority of the lords rule their lordships but I do believe that his royal highness due to he himself was the duke of Imeriata once take a greater interest in the ruling of this realm than most an contradict me more than the other realms rulers!"

The Queen looked thoughtful for moment before replying, "Perhaps, your Royal Prince, however how much money it would take to cool such a large area that the creature would need for a comfortable home would have to be investigated, the Royal coffers are not what they used to be."

Queen Sophia answered, thinking of her father King Henry IV, completely devastated the House Maddox's finances, leaving the Royal House several million sols in the red. Even now the scars of his excessive spending could be seen.

It struck Sophia as odd whenever the Prince referred to his father as "His royal Highness", even Sophia's father who had been a stickler for protocol only ever made her curtsy when she met him. She always called him father, never "Your Majesty." Perhaps the Prince in private was more relaxed around his father, away from Imeriata's courts scrutinising eyes.

"My goodness your Royal Prince you are busy! Even our eldest son the Crown~Prince Edward and our eldest child Princess Victoria, who are the Archduke of the Sevri Islands and Archduchess of Vinera do not have so much responsibility. Although to be fair they have no political power, but they are heavily involved in various charities and civil work of their respective Duchies. Although we daresay they are not as busy as you!"

"I see!" the prince added as he remembered when his own family had suffered from financial problems during his great grandfather rule after the civil war some hundred years earlier he had however simply solved the problem by demanding tribute from the nobility and especially Erathia as they had been mostly involved on the syndicalist side leaving them one of the poorer realms for at least 50 years.

"My goodness your Royal Prince you are busy! Although to be fair they have no political power, but they are heavily involved in various charities and civil work of their respective Duchies. Although we daresay they are not as busy as you!" The queen said as he had finished his description of his work while he where quite surprised at the fact that the royal family had no political power as members of the nobility so he did quite surprised said

"your royal highness family are not required to do their duty as members of the nobility?" he did however realised that his description was over simplified and could almost seen as barging compared to the queens sons and daughters and quickly added
"However I do not do all myself and have the aid of both my vassals and I do also have the advice and bureaucratic aid of the various advisories so it is hardly like I do everything myself!"
