OOC: Well, I reached the population size of 100 million, which is the normal starting point for people creating nukes.
Millions of people were shocked today as Jack Nickelburg, president and founder of the Armed Republic of Saint John, made an official speech today regarding the increasingly popular trend of nuclear weapons. An excerpt from his speech might provide a better reasoning as to why this would happen.
We are a nation of proud people. Many of the founders of this country lived through terrible war and underhanded tricks, and we've all been there. Our own experiences have led me to believe that we do not need nuclear weapons. These nuclear bombs are not made to attack armies, they're not made to attack leaders, they're made to attack the general populace and make them die horrible deaths by the hundreds of thousands. This is not the way we are going to win a way.
However, many citizens were concerned with the welfare of the country. They wondered how we would participate if we were to be locked in to a large scale war. The president had an answer for that, as well.
We will not, however, be left defenseless. Far from it. Instead, Mr. Bill Riley, commander in chief of the Army, along with myself, is launching a new campaign. We are spending millions- possibly billions- to create a new series of weapons. You can rest assured that these weapons will be powerful, accurate, and cause very little collateral damage. These include seemingly space age weapons-rail guns. Gauss guns. Satellite surveillance, EMP blasts, and many many more that I am not at liberty to release. These weapons are advanced far beyond our enemies have, and innovative in new ways.
But, should nuclear capabillities be abandoned all together? President Nickelburg had an answer for that as well.
We are not forsaking all nuclear capabillities. We are simply avoiding the use of nuclear weapons, or any weapons designed to cause harm to a large number of civilians. We are still looking at using nuclear power plants, and it may in the future be used to power our aircraft carriers and submarines.
But some question the possibility of these seemingly space age weapons. They wonder if we can really pull this off.
A lot of you may be wondering exactly how we plan to do this. These weapons are seemingly impossible as of right now. Take for instance, the rail gun. Large power problems have prevented countries before us from implementing these designs. But they have not had the same amount of innovation that we have. They don't have the dedication that we have. And they don't have an open mind like we have. We must keep our minds open, to move above and beyond the limits of our friends and foes alike.
The president has also announced that we won't be giving up uranium mining. We mine 40,000 tons a year, and currently have 225,000 in our stockpile. They are currently being sold for $210,000 a ton. We will also be willing to reach a trade agreement.
