Should we give them their independence?

Postby Alyxandreta » Sun Jul 12, 2009 2:05 pm

The recent civil war within Alyxandreta had caused many deaths, a nation of near 200 million people had suffered over 5 million deaths, a small number many said but a toll too great for the nation.

The republic was overthrown and a new government installed, the Monarchy restored and the combined threats of communist, fascist and Islamic separatists were all defeated although remnants remain, the country is once again a kingdom and once again free from the violence that had consumed it so recently.

The main victims of conflict within this nation were the cities of Carpanis, Sinapurum, Treno, Juneau, Bekha & the capital Alexandria. All the cities had faced down the threat of violence, terrorism and murder but now they were ready to rebuild.

Transport links were being rebuilt, new streets, homes, businesses were quickly being built and opened. Even nations formerly hostile to the old republic and the old monarchy sensed a change in this new Empire & Commonwealth.

The only problem in this nation was Sinapurum, a hotbed of Islamic fundamentalism and secessionist ideals. Once a glorious jewel of the empire and now a backwater trading port brimming with anti-Alyxandretan feelings.

The Imperial council was temporarily based in Treno & Juneau, two cities that faced one another across an open harbour until Alexandria was completely rebuilt after having been occupied by Fascist forces and reduced nearly to rubble in the ensuing battle for the city.

The council replaced the house of parliament that had been deemed undemocratic and corrupt by Premier Vladimir Bekha & King Ryan Alexander, with each of the 12 regions electing a governor who represented said region in Imperial affairs alongside the Premier, Vice Premier & King, these regions and their governors are as follows;

Alban - Governor Malkis Tchatis
Alexandria - Govan Sekhia
Bekhaera - Ryan Santander
Carpanis - Dr. Wilhelm Julianus
Cordoba - Admiral Nikolai Sethuro
Drakia - Alauric DeTutturo
Dastania - Katherine Aturenko
Juneau - Ethan Ploughman
Hyranaia - Sarah Galena
Sinapurum - Ahmed Jalani
Treno - Evan Maximillian
Valencia - Baxter Williams

Regent/Head of State - King Ryan Alexander
Premier - General Vladimir Bekha
Vice Premier - Nathan Colgrew

Recent attempts at quelling hostilities in the island state were failures as protest continued, despite heavy investments from corporations around the world, the island was a target for resurgent Islamic forces and and a new secessionist party was formed, The Sinapurum Republican Party whose aim for independence was heavily supported, their aims to get their candidate within the council and then once the new system of premier elections are started get them installed as political leader of the entire nation. But this is a dream.

Today the capital is restored to Alexandria along with administrative departments, and in one month, the elections for Premier begin. But this has been overshadowed by the announcement from Sinapurum that the Sinapurum Republican Party has announced the siland will not take part in any elections as it formally submits its notice of secession and independence to the council.

The world awaits the reply of both parties and the leaders /ambassadors and representatives of the world.

From - The Imperial Council of Alyxandreta
To - Empire of Skylar
Subject - Invite & Information

The communist threat was removed several months ago when Imperial forces crushed a strong but overall disorganized communist threat.
We in the empire feel the need to inform you that we do not discriminate against the true ideals of socialism as we have adopted many ideas from it and adapted them to our new Legal Charter.
We do however disagree with the communist form of teaching that we witnessed during the cicil war as it was corrupt and oppressed the people.
We do however extend an invitation to our summit on the future of Alyxandreta and an economic, military & cultural trade exchange.

From - The Imperial Council of Alyxandreta
To - Ascelonia
Subject - Invitation.

Thank you, your offer is most generous. We cordially invite you to our nation as we demand the best from our citizens and only the best for your citizens we feel a resurgent economy would do this.
extend an invitation to our summit on the future of Alyxandreta and an economic, military & cultural trade exchange.

The news channels continued the story of Sinapurum separatists, they had witnessed the Islamic rebels who used terror to a successful effect once before during the civil war and all forces were on high alert and were more prepared for a war if needs be but the council hoped this would not come to fruition.

"Today the Imperial council at the behest of the Premier & his majesty invited world leaders to a summit to discuss future elections within the empire & also the current crisis developing in the northern island state of Sinapurum. Many citizens believe the state is a vital part of the empire and should remain, a large percentage of people who we asked feel the radical growth of Islam within the currently undermines the powers of the council and the King. We spoke to the King today at his fortnightly news conference where he revealed to us he does not feel that Islam is to blame but those who would use it for their own corrupt ways and attempt to seize power on behalf of the people. He also stated he hoped world leaders would join him and others in Alexandria, the capital, for a summit to help rebuild this nation and once more put us on the world map"

More protest continued today in Sinapurum but these were not against the government, pro Alyxandretan protesters lodged their complaint to the Alyxandretan commission as they feel the regions governors do not represent the island fully and are persecuting those who either do not follow Islam or do not believe in the Republican Party's doctrine. Spokesman for the Alyxandretan Sinai Party spoke to local news channels today and said this,

"We do not feel the Republican governors fully understand the entire populations desires and are merely using this 'secession' claim to further strengthen their grip on the island. It is well known that the governing body are sympathizers or are even former Al-Saladin guerillas, it is unfair they now are determining our future so we request the Alyxandretan government take drastic action top secure the region before it is dragged into another conflict"

We hope that this situation can be resolved peacefully and not revert to another civil war which Alyxandreta has suffered from. While this is a internal affair we would like to put forward the propoasal of more self automony for Sinapurum.

""If the government of Alyxandreta had any sense or any heart & should they would see clearly that the people of the state of Sinapurum want independence from them, it is the only logical step that will safeguard our future and protect the empire from any extremist retaliation to their efforts"
Professor Muqtadr Al-Rashid spoke out today to his followers outside the Sinai mosque in Sinapurum, the general consensus there now is independence, and when can they get it."

The news channels also reported of refugees fleeing the island state after persecution from the island's muslim majority, many of the refugees being followers of the Alyxandretan Christian faith & also those hwo followed the old Sinai religions.

"The island is part of the empire and shall remain as such until a time we see fit. This is not a matter of establishing a sovereign republic, I have personally seen this before and will vow to stop any attempts at secession and/or insurrection"
General Bekha, the outgoing Premier of Alyxandreta whom after eight years in the job has decided to step down and make way for a successor

The elections were soon, the main candidates are current vice premier Nathan Colgrew,Bekhaeran governor Ryan Santander & Dastanian governor Katherine Aturenko, each had their own agenda and each of them were eager to take the hotspot, none more so than Colgrew who for eight years been subordinate to Bekha & the king.

Many democratic & undemocratic leaders and regimes today came out in support of the Sinapurum Republican cause,. claiming Alyxandreta breached their humans rights and if so were willing to step and liberate the island from its masters.

Vice Premier Colgrew today petitioned for armed forces to be placed in the north ready for peacekeeping duties in Sinapurum if hostilities and civil order was not able to be contained by the police force there.

The first round results are in and as expected the three main contenders had secured enough votes to pass onto the second round, where one of them would be eliminated from the vote.

Today King R. Alexander approved an emergency council meeting to condemn the Sinapurum Republican Movement and Alyxandretan troops once more returned to the Island nation to quell anti-Alyxandretan riots and protests that have claimed the lives of several people including former advisor to the king, professor Rashid Talabani.

The days passed and the second round of voting had finished, with Santander & Aturenko left, vice premier Colgrew the favourite was out of the running. The empire was soon to have a new Premier & then the regional voting for governors could begin.

The Sinai people were now divided, the city was partitioned off by Imperial forces who sought to keep the Island state in Imperial hands, IS THIS THE RIGHT WAY TO GO?

ooc: this is a different idea, my country has finally started to rebuild but an everlasting legacy of rebellion remained on the island, this is a more political than militaristic endeavor as they want freedom but aren't using the age old tactic of suicide bombers, they are protesters mainly with a few violent people also trying to take over.

THE DAY HAD ARRIVED.
THE ELECTION RESULT HAD COME IN.
THE NEW PREMIER OF ALYXANDRETA WAS.

RYAN SANTANDER. GOVERNOR OF BEKHAERA.
AS HIS NUMBER TWO HE CHOOSES DEFEATED ELECTION RIVAL KATHERINE ATURENKO.

As Premier of the Empire & Commonwealth , his first duty was to quell rebellion within the disputed state of Sinapurum, ethnic Sinai have began looting and attacking Alyxandretan businesses and quarters in retaliation for the Imperial forces landing on the Island and initiating martial law.

The loss of life suffered when Islamic terrorists assumed control many years ago would never return hopefully but even today people were dying for a foolish cause.

Professor Muqtadr Al-Rashid, de-facto leader of the revitalized Sinapurum Republican Party called for the Sinai to rise up and take the nation by force if needed, harking back to the dark days of the island.

The Empire' today felt they had suffered a blow to their hopes when a random military patrol today took the life of high ranking officer Paul Williams who was serving his last tour before retiring to take up a position in the new government,

In retaliation the de-facto Sinai leader Al Rashid was killed by supporters of the empire. instigating tensions between the two opposing forces, further sending the island into chaos.

"To see our beloved friend killed at the hands of western barbarians is despicable, the empire allowed this to happen and we feel this is unforgivable. We feel the new Premier will not give fresh answers, but were are willing to give him one chance and one chance only until we formally declare ourselves free of tyranny and expel the Imperial forces"

That message relayed all round Alyxandreta, many felt for the Sinai cause but so many more believe the Sinai should be loyal and observe their loyalty to the nation that made them great.

The Ascelonian government and people have no need to fear the Empire & Commonwealth turning into a communist state, the mere idea we feel is sheer and utter nonsense.
Under the rule of the King & Premier & the Imperial Council our nation has returned to the glory days or at least are well on their way to doing so.

We accept all offers placed forward to us unconditionally as they benefit us a lot more than they would weaken us.

May our two nations strive to become stronger than ever under this new alliance.

People's Republic of Kinitaria would be perfectly happy with attending this summit in the interests of improving bilateral relations between Kinitaria and Alyxandreta.

Our advice is: crush them. Religious radicalism must not be rewarded.

When will this summit take place?

Religious extremism will not be tolerated by any religion, we do not persecute on faiths and beliefs but the ideology of religious supremacy is one that cannot and will not be tolerated by any government here or hereafter.

I believe that you should give them autonomous status. Then they will be a part of your empire, but they will be able to govern themselves.
Government of Leavatia:

Leavatia is an absolute monarchy. The Empress has total control over everything in the country, including businesses (only in times of emergency). Then there is an Overseers Council with 2 Imperial Overseers from each state (13 states) in the country. The Imperial Overseers are elected every 2 years. Although they are suppose to be the people voice in the government, they are merely her majesties puppets who have very little power in the government.

The problem is this island state has seen a great cultural upheaval within the last century and if left to its own devices will descend into anarchy and we cannot allow this, the idea of autonomy a progressive idea which has worked well in several other provinces but in this lawless land it does not.

We would be willing to give them autonomy but our military would remain there as a sign of maintaining the fragile peace of the region. The next move belongs to the 'Sinapurum Republican Party" who have instigated this tension between the Empire & her peoples.

These people are not poor, the majority are controlled by the minority of pseudo extremists that demand freedom so they may control those who they view as weak.

We would be willing to give them autonomy if they presented us with a viable strategy for doing so.
But at this point negotiations are not forthcoming and so after recent protest and attacks against innocent Alyxandretans we have placed a curfew and martial law as of last week.

Until a more suitable option rather than us having to occupy OUR own lands to make sure our own people are not brainwashed by this doctrine of hate and rebellion we have no other alternative.

We feel for the Sinai people as they have been loyal servants to crown and republic and we will do everything within our power to make these forces within our nation dissipate and remember that the state of Sinapurum is a vital link in the nation of Alyxandreta.

But is it not unfair for those who do not want self rule but do not wish to leave their homes either.
Because two factions want the island to be two different things we must find common ground but merely pandering to either side, even to those who wish to remain part of our nation can be seen as a dangerous precedence as protesters will surely riot once more and it will instigate another serious divide on this already fragile island state.

We are willing to initiate any scheme to briong about the end of riots and talk of secession, but as there is no spokesperson for the Sinapurum region after the assassination of Muqtadr Al Rashid we feel diplomatic talks will be shallow and not in ether sides interests.

News from Sinapurum, a temporary ceasefire has been called between members if the secessionist party "Sinapurum Republican Party" and its combatant allies who are yet to attack Alyxandretan forces and the diplomatic envoy to Sinapurum Gustav Carter. Mr Carter is a well known diplomat who once was governor of Valencia region.

"I am inviting our friends from Sinapurum & across the globe for urgent talks on this crisis. I do not mince my words when I call it a crisis, if not dealt with quickly the entire nation will fracture as we have seen only eight years ago, the slightest slip by our own government and we will fall into dangerous times once more. Myself & the new Premier Ryan Santander will be at the Imperial Council chambers in Alexandria awaiting the envoys replies and arrivals. We will only discuss any further diplomatic questions there and then. The Summit will begin immediately. Thank You.

The council chambers awaited the arrivals of other nations in an attempt to quell the insurrection and secessionist goals of the far right SRP and the Alyxandretan nation.

Those who are coming please forward your RSVP immediately. We will not wait long as these are urgent talks.
