Breaking News: Marcuda Strikes at Zonolia

Good Morning, this is Jennifer Larsen with DNS News; in astonishing breaking news we have confirmed reports that through the early morning hours starting at 1:30 A.M., a Marcudian lead coalition of military forces launched a massive bombing campaign, launching over 350 Hercules missiles, which included bunker buster bombs delivered by unmanned drones. The bombs and missiles focused on Zonolia government and military installations, along with high value infrastructure targets such as the Zonolia communications systems and power plants.
We have confirmed further reports that Marcudian Special Forces units have been working through the night, setting off bombs and razing Zonolia oil refineries and ports. Currently, the United States of Marcuda has the 3rd, 5th and 8th fleets next to Zonolia waters. We are hearing reports that the bombing campaign is a planned three day attack, dubbed, “Operation Thunder Clap”. In addition, President Simpson has ordered all armed forces on high alert and ordered the 1st, 6th, and 7th fleets to join the others near Zonolia.
Reporting in from the Capital City of Zonolia is our field correspondent Danielle Arnold, Danielle can you tell us what it’s like over there?

“Well Jennifer, I’m currently standing on my hotel balcony, and as you can hear, the bombing has not stopped. You can hear explosions, and watch as fireball after fireball lights up the sky. Most people are staring in their homes, and until things calm down, we plan on camping out in our hotel room.”

“The President will address the nation soon; however, it was the President’s tough choice to take action as he has confirmed solid evidence implicating Zonolia in the death of President Burrill. In addition, the murder of 15,000 civilians cannot go unnoticed, and it’s the President’s opinion that the world must act on a united front against such genocidal acts such as the one committed by Zonolia. In addition, with the joint Coalition surrounding Marcuda at this time, the President is confident we will liberate the people of Zonolia. The actions taken today were necessary and justified. The President will be asking Congress for an official declaration of war “

In further news Senator Michael Tibits, has publicly denounced the actions of President Simpson and has called for an open hearing on the justifications for the pre-emptive strike and a free viewing of the evidence that implicates Zonolia in the death of President Burrill, here is what he had to say:

“President Simpson has given the Marcudian people no evidence to substantiate that Zonolia was behind President Burrill’s death. It’s been less than a week, and the country has barely had time to mourn and this President decides to engage in a war, that President Burrill tried to avoid. President Burrill was a personal friend of mine; he was a visionary and true leader. I know that he would not want his death to be the cause of a war; furthermore, he would have condemned the actions of this current President. I call upon Congress to open a formal and public investigation into the death of President Burrill. This war is not want President Burrill would have wanted, and I fear there are forces at play here that knew that!”

Commander Jenson Rondo was giving Rear Admiral Keith Mailer a briefing:

"Sir, according to our latest figures the bombing campaign was a huge success. The estimated damage to the Zonolian infrastructure is 30%, and our inserted Special Forces teams have accounted for an additional 5% damage to all of the Zonolia's refinery's."

Admiral Mailer looked stoic as he thanked the Commander. He looked up the sky through the window in his office, and said, "I hear that Zonolia's allies have already declared their allegiances, be sure to account for everyone, so we can report back what we are facing over to the National Defense Agency."

"Yes sir, but Admiral should we not start directing our allies to proceed phase two of the operation."

The admiral chuckled, "I think we better see how many kids came out to play, before we release all the bullies on one lone child. In any case, before phase two begins, I'd like to hear more back from the capital. If we can deescalate or keep this operation low profile that would make sense. Your now excused."

Commander Jenson saluted and walked out. The Admiral had been appointed by President Burrill, two years ago. He already missed him, President Burrill had been young enough to be his grandson when he appointed him, but held a maturity that was even beyond him, in his greying days. The admiral did not beleive in this offensive, but orders were orders. We cannot guarantee that the citizens of Zonolia won't come after you in a revenge attack. "It isn't that big. Besides, they have about 68 ships, guarding 120 amphibious assault craft. We could easily handle that. Not to mention, our carriers carry more combat aircraft than them. We haven't received an order to attack though, tell the others to just keep watching them."

"Are they going to attack?" Field Marshall Cole asked the men in the command centre.
"We aren't sure sir, they seem pretty serious."
"Well, if they do decide to attack, they are going to have an extremely hard time. Not only will they face the Zonolian army, and her allies, but there are still millions of trained ex-rebels in the country. If we can arm them and get them on our side, Intel is predicting, that the casualties for their invasion of the Island would triple."

Also, yes their attack is unprovoked, but they have a noble cause, to free civilians. They just don't quite know how to do it. Normal democracies don't violate people with no rights. A Constitutional Dictatorship is a nation in which is ruled by a dictator, who may do as he pleases up to what the Consitution and Congress of said nation allows. And if he is caught breaking any rules he may be fired, and his sucessor may not suceed him then in which every citizen votes on a new Dictorial President in a popular voteing campaign
